We are in the preliminary stages of planning our Thanksgiving day here and for me and my girls that means choosing which tablecloth and napkin set, we’ll use this year.  We all have our favorites and it really won’t matter to me which ones we choose as long as they are clean and wrinkle-free.  I love table linens and was fortunate enough to be gifted some vintage tablecloths from my Grandmother in Law and three handmade doilies from my Grandmother.

The fact that she crocheted these doilies herself make them even more special to me, so I decided early on to bring them out only during the holidays to preserve their beauty. Sadly, there was a staining mishap the last time I had them out. I didn’t realize there was a stain until the next day, so it set in and I was afraid it may never come out until I remembered, I’m a Biz Stain Fighter Ambassador! Read on to see how you can prep your holiday linens with Biz just like I did.

Confession time, I didn’t read one YA book last year! Looking back over the titles I read and reviewed in 2022, I saw I’d shared lots of self-help, how-to’s  and gardening books instead. Don’t get me wrong, I adore those genres and will continue to share them, but I also want to add some other genres to the mix, including fun YA titles. Today. I’m reviewing my first YA book of 2023, Sugaring Off, by Gillian French. This is my first book of hers I’ve read as well, but hopefully, I’ll be sharing more of her work this year.

I can’t wait to share my first DIY candles with you today. They were simple and fun to make.

10 No Tech Holiday Gift Ideas Sure To Please

in , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Monday, November 13, 2023

In an effort to not rush headlong into everything Christmas, I waited until I knew most people had started holiday shopping, or at the very least, asking for their loved ones' gift lists. This year has found me enjoying offline hobbies and events, which led me to compile 10 no tech holiday gift ideas sure to please most adults on your list. This is a switch from my previous holiday gift idea lists because I’m not covering kids' gifts. As an almost empty nester, it’s going to be a few years before I need to shop for little ones again.

Happy Friday dear readers. I hope you are enjoying the last few days of summer as much as I am. Even though it's gotten hot here again, I’m turning my thoughts towards fall gardening and homemaking. Last month, I was honored to become an ambassador for Storey Publishing, so today’s book is the first of what I hope to be many collaborations with it for them. Today's review is about the beloved herb Lavender. It's a staple in my here garden.

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope today has been filled with all the people and things that make you feel loved. One way I show love here is to host giveaways.  I’m especially happy to share that today’s giveaway is a favorite- candles! Not just any candles, these are beautiful hand poured candles with wooden wicks, made locally in Franklin TN. You may remember my holiday candle set giveaway from November, where I introduced you to Amber Vale Home. That giveaway had over 1500 entries in just a week, so I know you will love this giveaway and I hope you’ll join me in celebrating my partnership with them as their ambassador! I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share this small business with amazing candles with you.

Last month, I received a beautifully wrapped spa collection set of Roux newest hair care line, Precious Oils Collection to review. I could tell by the attention to detail of the packaging (complete with tied bow!) that I was in for a treat. Roux didn’t disappoint! They sent me a thick terry robe with matching slippers and three full sized products in a lovely shade of yellow that made me immediately think of lemons, which I love. Imagine my delight when I  opened the products for their sniff test, and they smell delightfully lemony! Read on to for my full review of the complete weightless precious hair care collection.

Welcome to Fall Friday Faves

in , , , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, September 27, 2024

It feels and looks very fall like today in Nashville, TN. area because the remnants of Hurricane Helene showed up here before sunrise. We’re blessed to be okay and I send out well wishes for all who were in the path of it. Even though I didn’t hit my goal of a weekly Friday Faves post this month like I shared on Labor Day, I’m happy to be sharing my second today and will try again in October.

Long before I became a Parmesan Ambassador, I fell in love with the amazing taste and texture of the King of cheese. I absolutely love parmesan, but not all parmesan is true Parmigiano Reggiano. Read on to discover where true Parmigiano Reggiano cheese comes from, its ingredients and what to look for at your local store before buying. Plus, I’m sharing my super easy cheese plate idea that even kids will eat.

This is my third year as an ambassador #GivingTuesday,  the global day of giving back to our community, or the world depending on which causes and organizations you choose to support. My family and I choose to support globally during most of the year, but during the holidays, we love to give our support locally. Read on for my three easy ways to give back starting today.

#GivingTuesday

1. Donate Funds:
The first way we give is by putting a donation in nearly every Salvation Army bell ringers collection. Sometimes it’s just the change in our hands from our recent shopping trip. Other times we give a more meaningful amount, it really depends on where we are in our lives. Every little bit helps!  We smile and thank  the volunteers who are out in all sorts of weather promoting the Salvation's Armies promise to America to “Do the most good”. Our daughters, now in their teens,  have watched us do this so often over the years, that now they reach in their purse or pockets to see what they can give as well. This makes us very proud parents because we never asked them to give, they want too.  If you would like to learn more about volunteering this holiday season as a bell ringer, please visit www.ringbells.org where you can do a search to find local volunteer opportunities.

2. Donate Food:
Feeding America #GivingTuesday

The second way we give is by supporting local food banks. The need is greatest this time of year, second only to summer when kids are out of school. The idea of not having enough food is a scary and growing situation on our country.  It’s hard to fathom that 42 million people in America face hunger each day- that’s 1 in every 8 Americans!  Sadly, school age children are the most severely affected by hunger.
One of the easiest ways to help is to look for a collection bin at your local grocery store and put one of your BOGO’s in it all year. If you have the resources, perhaps you can adopt a family in need off of the giving tree in your community.  My local stores have them up all season. If your grocery store doesn’t, just look up your local food bank at Feeding America  and ask what they need.

3. Donate Time:

Volunteer #GivingTuesday

Last but certainly not least, we want to help seniors in our community this year. I’m contacting a local assisted living community today to see how we might help brighten residents days. Simple acts like visiting for 30 minutes, smiling and saying hello to each resident we see, writing greeting cards for a hallway of residents, giving out free hand massages since I’m an Avon lady.
If you don’t have an assisted living center in your community, contact your local senior center or visit the National Center on Aging  which has a wealth of resources to help you plug in and help.

More Ways to help:

find local events #GivingTuesday

My three ways of helping may not be the best fit for you, so I invite you to visit the #GivingTuesday website where you can find countless ways to get involved today, next month or next year.

 Freebie:

The one thing you can give freely, multiple times a day is your smile. It costs you nothing, but to the receiver it may mean everything, especially in our social media savvy world! Look up from those phones when you are in public and Smile! Speaking of smiling- are you following me a.k.a. ismilefirst on Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest? I'd love for you to join me!

Please share in comments: Which way do you and your family help give back to your community?
Have you ever washed off the day’s makeup only to find it isn’t rinsing off your washcloth? You rinse again, maybe try a little hand soap on the worse stains, but that waterproof mascara and stay forever lip gloss isn’t budging.  With three ladies in the house removing makeup on the daily, it can become a hassle to pre-treat each and every washcloth, so I knew from the moment I became a Biz Ambassador that this was a stain challenge I wanted Biz to win!  Here’s my simple to steps on getting makeup stains out of washcloths easily with Biz Stain Fighter.

As a Quarto Books ambassador, I get the privilege of being introduced to books and authors I may not otherwise know, or read. Such is the case with today’s book Make Art or Die Trying by Stuart Semple. I love art, and have a creative side, but Stuart's approach to harnessing the power of creative ideas to create art to change your life and community is a refreshing take on this subject. Read on to learn about Temples art and enter the giveaway for a prize bundle with three winners.

Six ways to Give on Giving Tuesday

in , , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Tuesday, December 03, 2019

Happy December!  It is a frosty morning here south of Nashville, TN. And I’m warm and toasty in my cozy home office. I know there are many, right here in my county that aren’t as fortunate. That’s top of mind as I put together this post for Giving Tuesday. This year I’m going to continue to help where I live. To that end, I’m donating food, toys, clothes, books, diapers, anything I can to help local community outreach programs and non profits. If you’d like to help out in your community and need some ideas on where to get started, read on for Six ways you can give on Giving Tuesday.

It's #GivingTuesday 2019

We are almost to the end of what is usually a long winter month for me. The weather is a rollercoaster ride here in middle Tennessee, with beautiful spring-like days that have me itching to garden, only to have nights dipping back into the 20s. We have multiple “winters” here in the South, so rather than dwelling on them, I’ve chosen to celebrate Leap Year and share what I’ll be doing with my extra day. I hope my post will help you productively use the extra day.

Happy Leap Year: What will you do with your extra day this Thursday?

Happy Leap Year Day

If you’ve followed my blog or socials for the last couple of years, you’ll recognize the NewAir name because I’ve reviewed several of their products. From a portable heater that’s perfect for taking the chill out of a guest room, a space saving wine fridge, to their popular counter top clear ice maker, I’ve had a wonderful experience with this brand. I was delighted recently when I was asked to become an NewAir Ambassador and help them celebrate their 20th anniversary by reviewing the NewAir Anniversary Series limited edition 100 Can beverage Fridge which helps chill drinks easily.

Yesterday found us at a family member’s home, enjoying family, the fantastic fall weather and of course, delicious food. The time for cookouts, corn mazes, pumpkins patches, hayrides, and bonfires has finally arrived! We are excited to dive into all the fun festivities, but I’ve learned from our previous cookouts and bonfires to expect lots of laundry stains. Don’t let laundry stains keep you from enjoying outdoor activities, simply use my secret weapon- Biz Stain Fighter!
