New Year, New Handbags to Love - My WAHM Plan

New Year, New Handbags to Love

My love of handbags started when I was in elementary school. One of my teachers carried this amazingly colorful patchwork Hobo handbag and I couldn’t keep my eyes off it! It hung on the back of her desk chair, and I wanted so badly to ask her about it, or better yet, own it. I asked for the same style of handbag for Christmas, but alas, I didn’t get it, because what third grader carries a handbag? My love of handbags has never wavered, so I was delighted to discover a new line of handbags to love in the new year.

While my love of handbags and all the accessories that go in them runs deep, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m hard on my handbags. I don’t mean to be hard, but life happens. I’m also very selective on what type of handbag makes the cut for everyday use, so I’ve learned to be a savvy shopper, so that my time and money are well spent.

I’m willing to pay a little more for a handbag that I can use for more than one season, so I was delighted to be introduced to a new to me company called The Sak on Instagram. I entered their giveaway for a set of their crocheted ornaments and won! You can see the lovely  set I received on my Instagram and TikTok accounts.  Seeing the craftsmanship of the ornaments led me to learn more about the company and I’d like to share them with you today.

About The Sak:

The Sak logo

The Sak got it’s in San Francisco, in 1989, by childhood friends Mark Talucci and Todd Elliott. According to their website, “between Bali and their hometown of San Francisco, a vision was formed to bring that spirit and craftsmanship home with them by way of a simple natural rattan and leather bag fashioned out of an everyday Balinese sleeping mat. It was a uniquely casual style that broke through in an era of buttoned-up business casual. Mark and Todd saw it as an invitation to walk your own path—a more easygoing one that strayed from convention. And a new beginning for laid-back style.”

Imagine my delight when I learned that their first handbag was a Hobo! I started shopping that line immediately and while doing so, I noticed lots of shares on Instagram alerting me to their ambassador program. I  applied thinking, this would be a perfect fit since I love handbags so much, and I was selected!  I’m excited to be representing them.

Colors and Options:

The Sequoia Hobo is available in this season's trendiest colors, 22 to be exact! It was really hard for me to make a final color selection, but in the end, I went with the Dusty Blue Crochet for winter into spring. I think my next Sequoia handbag color choice will be Buttercup. With such a large selection of color and style options, it really is hard to decide! You can see all the options on The Sak website

I had the opportunity to select two items from The Sak’s vast array of consciously crafted products, so I decided to try something new to me : a backpack! My daughter’s have been telling me for years to switch to a backpack for travel, but I’d resisted because I love my handbags. One look at their leather backpacks and I just had to have one.

Meet the Huntley Leather Backpack in black. What a thing of beauty!

The Huntley Backpack in Black

Once I had this backpack in my hands, saw how roomy it was, I finally understood why my daughters insisted on traveling with a backpack. With my new Huntley backpack, I’ll be ready for a road trip or flight at a  moment’s notice, and I’ll be going in style. Much like the Hobo handbag, The Sak paid attention to all the little details with their backpack line as well. From the stitching to the antique brass hardware.

Beautiful Leather on Huntly backpack

Look at this gorgeous leather. It’s so soft and invites you to touch it, which is important to most. Using a handbag is a very tactile experience, so the feel of the bag is just as important as the look and functionality.  I love that it’s a structured bag, but still pliable, making it easy to pack, toss in the back seat and go! The drawstring and magnetic closer ensures all my essentials will stay in my backpack while I’m traveling too. This roomy backpack can hold everything you need for a weekend! No other bag needed.

Lots of room in the Huntly Backpack
