Earlier this week, I attended the Nashville, Tennessee press screening of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania with my husband. I believe this is a highly anticipated film for Marvel and Ant-Man fans worldwide. I know we were certainly excited for the opportunity to view the film in Dolby along with other local film critics and if the buzz before and after the film is any indication, Nashville should be included in the fandom.

Confession time, I didn’t read one YA book last year! Looking back over the titles I read and reviewed in 2022, I saw I’d shared lots of self-help, how-to’s  and gardening books instead. Don’t get me wrong, I adore those genres and will continue to share them, but I also want to add some other genres to the mix, including fun YA titles. Today. I’m reviewing my first YA book of 2023, Sugaring Off, by Gillian French. This is my first book of hers I’ve read as well, but hopefully, I’ll be sharing more of her work this year.

It was  an ugly, rainy day  in Tennessee yesterday, so while it was perfect for staying in and working on my list of cleaning, organizing and decluttering tasks I’ve got on my to-do list, it wasn’t a perfect internet day, so I couldn’t get this post up. Normally I wouldn’t have to make the distinction of which version of a film I’m reviewing, but Pinocchio has had a moment in 2022, with three film adaptations. That seems excessive, so I wondered why academy award winner Mr. Del Toro, would take it on as well. Truth be told, Pinocchio wasn’t a Disney classic favorite of mine, so if anybody could get me to watch a re-telling of this film, it would be Guillermo Del Toro.

 On September 29th, I had the honor of attending my first ever red-carpet event to provide media coverage of the Nashville Film Festival’s 53rd opening night presentation of The Return of Tanya Tucker featuring Brandi Carlile. Not only was this a special evening full of firsts for me, including enjoying a fantastic theater experience at the historic Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, TN., it was a first for my husband and teen daughter as well. We enjoyed ourselves immensely! I’d love to share my thoughts on this film, with (hopefully) no spoilers for you.

Here in the south, humidity starts rising in late March or early April and doesn’t abate until late October, early November. That means for the better part of a year, southerners, or anybody in a high humidity area are seeking ways to lower the humidity in our homes in late summer. We kicked off September with a fun and tasty Labor Day BBQ and my mouth is still watering over the perfection of our meal.
