Happy March friends! Did you know that March 23rd is National Puppy Day? I found this out while I was researching good gift ideas for big pups, because now that my daughter has a fenced-in backyard, she and her boyfriend are planning a big pup sleepover at their house and I get to spend time with them! I couldn’t show up empty-handed, and as luck would have it, I was offered some useful dog supplies I’m excited to share. I even have a fun pup movie giveaway!

5 ways to help on National Shelter Pet Day April 30th
in dogs, donate, free adoption, help cats, Nashville, National Shelter Pet Day, pets, volunteer, by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, April 28, 2017
Having pets and treating them like family is fairly common
all across America and yet, our shelters are at capacity year round; especially
no-kill shelters, which is where we adopted both our indoor cats. We love and adore
our fur babies and we couldn’t imagine our lives without them. While we can’t
adopt another animal at this time, we are going to help on national shelter pet
day, which is on Sunday April 30th this year. Here are some ways to help in your community.
Hello from rainy Nashville. I don’t know about you, but I am more than a little ready to welcome in March and spring weather! Before we say goodbye to February, the month of love, I thought I’d show my pet loving friends some love and host a pet food giveaway sponsored by Nature’s Logic®. While I did receive complimentary product and compensation for my time, I only share information that I feel will help my readers. All opinions are 100% my own and that of my cats.
Anytime we receive a package, my kitties need to investigate it. Most of the time I have to gently tell them they can’t play with the contents of these packages because I have to take photos of the products; so imagine their surprise and delight when I said they could check out this package because it was for them. I love how Dottie opted to get in the box and let her little sister figure out how to open the bags and cans. I’ll work on getting an unboxing video next time, because these two are just too cute!
Nature’s Logic® chicken meal feast dry kibble past the smell test with my kitties during their unboxing, and I’m sure it will with your fur babies too. I’d never tried this brand, so I was thrilled to learn some amazing things about this brand like:
- Their food is 100% All Natural Whole Food Ingredients.
- NO man-made, chemically synthesized vitamins, minerals or amino acids.
- NO chemical preservatives, artificial flavorings or colorings
- NO corn, wheat, soy, rice, potato, tapioca or peas
I was also happy to read that Nature’s Logic® is committed to providing the highest quality and safest nutrition for the furry members of your family. I appreciate that they understand that our pets are our family too!
They explain on their website that they have created the first and only full-line kibble, canned, and raw frozen pet food in the world with no chemically-synthesized ingredients. Nature’s Logic is the pioneer in developing truly 100% natural pet foods derived from nature…not chemistry! Now that is amazing! Check out the key benefits of feeding your pets Nature’s Logic®.

Taste Text Time:
As most parents can attest, it doesn’t matter if you are feeding little humans, or fur-babies, if the food doesn’t taste good, it won’t get eaten, no matter how much we explain how good for them it is!
As I suspected it might be, the chicken meal feast dry kibble was a hit! All three of my cats (2 indoor princesses, and one garage/outdoor sweetie) love the taste and gobble it up when I serve it to them. There are several flavors available including Chicken, Duck/Salmon, Turkey, Sardine and Rabbit.
Wet food was a miss with one cat!
Next we tried the chicken feast wet food, which received two out of three paws up. The consistency of this wet food is actually on the dry side, almost dense, so only two of my kitties liked it.
I wasn’t really surprised that my Fiona didn’t eat this wet food because she has always preferred a more moist food, so please keep this in mind when making your purchases. Their wet food comes in the same flavors as the dry food. I offered each variety to Fiona and each time, she declined eating. She was happy to play with the cans and help me take photos for this post.

Help your pets have a stress free holiday season
in #sponsored royalcaninhealthypets, Halloween, Holiday pet safety, pets, stress, Toxic pet foods, by Linda A Kinsman, Wednesday, October 26, 2016
For many families, Halloween has become the unofficial start
of the holiday season. We decorate our homes, ourselves, our kids, and our
pets, if they will allow it. While the holidays can be a fun and happy time for
us, they can be very stressful for our pets. Today I’m sharing helpful tips
with my fellow pet owners, which hopefully, will help us avoid potentially
hazardous situations and keep our pets (and us!) safe, healthy and stress-free
throughout the holiday season.
This post is sponsored by Royal Canin®, #royalcaninhealthypets. I am being compensated for helping spread
the word about Royal Canin’s veterinary-exclusive gastrointestinal diet this #Halloween, but all opinions are my own. Royal Canin is
not responsible for the content of this post.
Meet Dottie ‒ our 9-year-old indoor cat who loves to be in
the same room with you while you go about your day. She loves seeing outside
and we captured this photo of her looking out the front door onto the porch
recently. Her sweet face seems to ask ‒ why are you out there in the scary
dark? Please don’t stay out there. Changes in her routine, like me not working
from home one day, or visitors, can really stress out Dottie.
Do you know some of the other signs of stress in your pet? According to MyPetReference.com they are:
- Poor Appetite
- Decreased interaction with their owners
- Gastrointestinal disturbances
With Halloween less than a week away, I know my cats will be
stressed and upset every time the doorbell rings! We may do trunk-or-treat again to relieve this problem. Do your pets run in fear of
trick-or-treaters and holiday guests too?
If yes, here are a
few tips to help prevent stress in your pet:
1. Make sure you feed your pets at their regular feeding time
and spot. Now is not the time to change things up! Feed them their preferred
food type in a line that provides all the nutritional support your pet
requires, like Royal Canin®.
2. Provide a stable living environment for your pets. They need
routine! Try your best to keep your pet’s schedule and routine as normal as
possible.
3. Reinforce positive behavior in your pets like using their
scratcher, or not clawing furniture etc.
4. Make sure their favorite spots are available to them! Dottie
adores seeing out the windows to our front yard, which is full of birds,
squirrels and nature. We added a ledge to the dining room window for her and
our other indoor cat, Fiona.
This ledge is the preferred cat seat in our home, but when
the holidays come and guests arrive, both our cats dash for the safety of our
bedroom instead, so we added an additional viewing ledge in our bedroom window
just for them. It’s a little thing for us humans, but to our cats, it’s a
welcome gift of security and routine.
Another tip to a less stressed pet is to keep holiday décor and foods that are
hazardous to our pets away from them!
The
holidays are also a time when there are more treats and food around the house.
Guests may not realize that your dog or cat shouldn’t eat table scraps or that
they should keep their appetizer plate out of the pet’s reach.
Here is a quick
reference list of the most toxic holiday foods for pets to eat:
- Chocolate, especially dark chocolate
- Unbaked bread dough
- Alcohol
- Sugar-free candy and gum, jelly and baked goods (when ingested, artificial sweeteners can cause a sudden release of insulin in an animal’s body, leading to dangerously low blood sugar)
- Macadamia nuts
- Turkey, bones, and other meats with fatty portions
- Grapes and raisins
- Onions and garlic
Even with our best efforts, our pets can show signs of stomach upset and
GI issues. Here are four
signs to watch for:
- Vomiting
- Regurgitation
- Diarrhea
- Refusal to eat
If you notice these
symptoms in your pet you should contact your veterinarian immediately to
determine the best course of action. They could actually be signs of an
infection, chronic illness or a more serious
condition.
In many cases there are simple solutions. Ask your vet about Royal Canin’s line of
veterinary-exclusive gastrointestinal diets. Royal Canin offers multiple
options to help veterinarians provide individualized nutritional solutions for
pets experiencing gastrointestinal issues. You can learn more about
Royal Canin products by visiting their website and by getting social with them
on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Don’t forget to check out My PetReference.com for a host of
valuable resources. With a little education and prep work, we can help your
pets have a stress-free holiday season which will make ours jolly and bright as
well!

Easy DIY to keep litter box area clean & fresh
in #yougottabekittenme #CBias #ad Easy, cats, clean, diy, fresh, litter box, pets, by Linda A Kinsman, Thursday, May 05, 2016
This shop has been

alone. #yougottabekittenme #CollectiveBias
It’s important to me
as a homemaker to make my home pleasant to be in. I’m usually on top on my daily and weekly
chores, but there was one area of my home that was, how shall I put this
delicately, a total cat-tastrophe! Yes people, I’m talking about the often
messy and smelly litter box area in my home! Thanks to today’s sponsors, Sam’s Club and Fresh Step Total Control litter with the power of Febreze for helping me with this easy litter box area
DIY!
I’m happy to say this kitty-approved
DIY project took me less than an hour once I got all my supplies in place. I
love how clean and fresh this area is now, but that wasn’t always the case.
This next photo is hard to share and is not kitty-approved.
I love my cats, but Dottie and Fiona make their litter box
area a smelly, litter ridden mess
zone! I try to stay on top of it, but honestly, I was ashamed of this
out-of-the-way bathroom. We have three full baths in our home, so if company
came over, I would quickly clean the cats’ box, spray air freshener and leave
the door ajar only wide enough to allow the cats entry.
The first step to
my DIY was to stop the odor and litter tracking, so I switched back to Fresh Step Total Control with the power of Febreze litter and even upgraded by purchasing the 42 pound bag of Fresh Step Total Control with the power of Febreze litter, which is currently available
only at Sam’s Club. If you are a
Sam’s Club member, this litter is really easy to find in the store. In my Sam’s
Club, it’s in the back of the store nearing the bakery.
Sam’s Club members receive a discount of $3.50 off their purchase on this item
in May. This savings is offered in the Instant Savings book and is already
loaded to your member’s card. Savings and convenience? Thank you, Sam’s Club!
And a huge thanks to Fresh Step Total Control with the power of Febreze for
upgrading their litter!
Did you know that Fresh Step Total Control with the power of Febreze includes Borate Technology for superior ammonia control? Plus, it acts
as an antimicrobial agent to inhibit
odor-causing bacteria and clumps to ease
litter tracking! Seems this company knew just what we cat parents needed to help stop
those awful #yougottabekittenme moments!
You can learn more about Fresh Step
Total Control with the power of Febreze by visiting their site here.
The second step
to this litter box area update was to pick up new items. I wanted the kitty
bathroom to look clean and fresh like my other baths, so got bought a new
shower curtain, shower floor liner, scented trash bags, a new litter scoop and
a cute caddy for all the supplies to fit into.
The third step
was to clean the litter box area. Ugh. That was a chore, but so well worth the
effort!
The fourth step
was fun because I got to pretty up the space! I cut my liner to fit the floor
and added a piece on the shelf for an extra splash of color and to keep the kitty
supply caddy from slipping. I hung the light and airy shower curtain (that I
can partially close when company comes), and then put the litter box back in its
proper location.
The fifth step
was organizing the kitty supply caddy with all the supplies needed to keep the
litter box clean and smelling fresh. I placed the area air freshener up out of
the cats reach, added a scented trash bag to one of the caddy’s holders for the
litter scooper, put in the scented bags and added a gallon size bag of Fresh Step Total Control with the power of Febreze litter to the supply caddy so
anybody in the family helping with the cats can add a scoop or two of litter as
needed without having to heft up a 42 pound bag of litter.
Voila!
My easy DIY litter box area is complete.
Now I have a clean and fresh kitty bathroom
that I won’t be ashamed of if company decides to peak down the hall. And thanks
to Fresh Step Total Control with the power of Febreze litter this area smells
as great as it looks!
I'd also like to give my sponsors Fresh Step Total Control with the power of Febreze and Sam's Club another big round of applause for providing me $100 to donate to a pet-related organization of my choice! I participated in a local charity event called the Big Pay Back where my $100 donation to The People for Animals was doubled! This will help many cats and dogs in my community have better lives. Thank you, thank you!

Wordless Wednesday: Fiona
in #WordlessWednesday, 2016, cat, green eyes, kitty, pets, playful, by Linda A Kinsman, Wednesday, January 06, 2016
Welcome to my first Wordless Wednesday of 2016! Today we celebrate our lovable, snugable, playful two year old kitty, Fiona.
A special thank you to
Royal Canin and PetSmart for sponsoring today’s conversation. All opinions and
love of my fur babies are my own.
Earlier this month our fur princess Dottie turned 8. Like
all princesses, she deserved a special birthday gift. If my non-fur children would have gotten
their way, Dottie would have received a birthday party fit for a true princess.
I convinced them that a trip to PetSmart for a new toy and
some special cat food would suffice.
We love going to PetSmart! Their staff is always so friendly
and knowledgeable about all types of pets, not just our fur babies. We always
look at the beautiful birds and fish before heading to our main department:
Cats.
On this special occasion, I wanted to give Dottie a special
treat that would also be good for her changing needs. No longer a kitten or young
adult, we were noticing a subtle change in how Dottie ate and enjoyed her food.
She was showing signs of discomfort after eating; I was looking for a food just
for digestive health and nutritional needs for an adult indoor cat.
The Cat food section at PetSmart offers a variety of
products for all ages, stages and nutritional needs. As we walked down the aisle, we were drawn to
the Royal Canin food section because it was one of the largest there.
Royal Canin is a global leader in pet health nutrition and
they strive to bring the most precise nutritional solution for cats and dogs.
Through extensive research, Royal Canin has identified the needs of our cats
and dogs.
They live by the conviction that, no matter how much we love our fur
babies and treat them like family- our pets are not people and they require
unique nutritional needs.
We decided to gift Dottie some Royal Canin for made just for
the digestive health of a mature cat. Thankfully, Dottie loved her special gift
and will buy her more on our next PetSmart trip.
Royal
Canin and the PetSmart staff are here to help you make the best possible food
choices for your cats and dogs as well. No matter if they are large or small,
pure bred or mixed breed, there is a specially formulated food made just for
them. I invite you to visit PetSmart’s store locator to
find a store near you.
If you would like to learn more about all of the Royal
Canin cat foods available prior to going to PetSmart, please visit their cat food page.
