Having teen daughters is fun and challenging and oh, so rewarding.  I look at them and see parts of me interspersed here and there with their own unique personalities and styles.  Both daughters got their love of makeup straight from me, but Melissa must have got in that line twice! From a very early age, she has loved playing with makeup. Once we gave her permission to wear makeup, she was in heaven and quickly mastered makeup application and techniques.

Easy DIY to keep litter box area clean & fresh

It’s important to me as a homemaker to make my home pleasant to be in.  I’m usually on top on my daily and weekly chores, but there was one area of my home that was, how shall I put this delicately, a total cat-tastrophe! Yes people, I’m talking about the often messy and smelly litter box area in my home! I’m happy to say this kitty-approved DIY project took me less than an hour once I got all my supplies in place. I love how clean and fresh this area is now, but that wasn’t always the case. This next photo is hard to share and is not kitty-approved.

I love my cats, but Dottie and Fiona make their litter box area a smelly, litter ridden mess zone! I try to stay on top of it, but honestly, I was ashamed of this out-of-the-way bathroom. We have three full baths in our home, so if company came over, I would quickly clean the cats’ box, spray air freshener and leave the door ajar only wide enough to allow the cats entry.

The second step to this litter box area update was to pick up new items. I wanted the kitty bathroom to look clean and fresh like my other baths, so got bought a new shower curtain, shower floor liner, scented trash bags, a new litter scoop and a cute caddy for all the supplies to fit into.

The third step was to clean the litter box area. Ugh. That was a chore, but so well worth the effort!

The fourth step was fun because I got to pretty up the space! I cut my liner to fit the floor and added a piece on the shelf for an extra splash of color and to keep the kitty supply caddy from slipping. I hung the light and airy shower curtain (that I can partially close when company comes), and then put the litter box back in its proper location.


The fifth step was organizing the kitty supply caddy with all the supplies needed to keep the litter box clean and smelling fresh. I placed the area air freshener up out of the cats reach, added a scented trash bag to one of the caddy’s holders for the litter scooper, put in the scented bags and added a gallon size bag of Fresh Step Total Control with the power of Febreze litter to the supply caddy so anybody in the family helping with the cats can add a scoop or two of litter as needed without having to heft up a 42 pound bag of litter.

Don’t fear back to school bake sales with Krusteaz bakery style cookie mixes #giveaway

Now that my elementary school Mom days are behind me, I don’t get called upon to bake for class parties much anymore. While I do miss seeing the joy on the kids’ faces when I shared a sweet treat; I still get pressed into baking service for the hospitality committees at both the middle and high school level- which often means donating to bake sales.  Sometimes I don’t have time or the supplies needed to bake from scratch, but I don’t fear bake sales because I keep Krusteaz bakery style cookie mixes on hand. My WAHM Plan: a pan of fresh baked cookies

My family and I love a warm, fresh from the oven cookie, so it was difficult for us to decide which cookie mix to try first; there were so many good options in my box of Krusteaz Bakery Style mixes like:
  • Butter Vanilla Sugar
  • Oatmeal Scotchie
  • Brown Sugar Oatmeal
  • Double Peanut Butter
  • Triple Chocolate Chunk

 We tried the Oatmeal Scotchie’s first. What a delightful cookie! Sweet and salty and just about perfect with a glass of milk. These were gobbled up so quickly by my family; I knew I’d have to tackle bake sale cookies while my cookie monsters were at school and work! I chose to make Triple Chocolate Chunk cookie bars.

The mix comes together quickly and there is almost no clean up with the Krusteaz mixes. Just add an egg and some butter and stir. The batter has a beautiful brown color- and look at all these chunks of chocolate!

Hello, cookie bar perfection! They are moist yet fluffy, not thick and dense like some bars. Because there is three types of chocolate, they are sweet and very satisfying, so I suggest cutting 18 cookie bars if you use an 8x8x2 inch baking pan like I did.

The hardest part was getting them cooled and wrapped for the bake sale without my family eating them! I’m thrilled at how easy these mixes are to work with and how good they taste! Nobody will ever know you didn’t bake these cookies from scratch unless you tell them.
