Happy Friday and happy fall everyone! Indian summer is in full swing this week here in the Nashville Tennessee area, but that won’t stop me from picking up pumpkins and gourds this weekend. While I’m driving all around town, I’ll be listening to this complementary CD I received from Flyby for today’s post and giveaway. I’ve been a fan of Matthew West for a while now, so I was thrilled to add his latest to my CD collection.
The Little Mermaid turns 25, honored with #disneymusic legacy CD #enmnetwork
in book, CD, collectible, Disney, music, The Little Mermaid, by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, January 09, 2015
I received the Little Mermaid Legacy Collection CD as a member of the Entertainment New Media Network. No further compensation was received and all opinions are my own. This post may also contain affiliate links.
I can hardly believe that The Little Mermaid, that beloved Ariel, and all the under the sea characters are 25! I’ll admit it, 25 years ago; I wasn’t in to seeing a Disney animated movie at the theater because I was young and my kids were but day-dream’s. My love of this beautiful movie came years later when my oldest daughter was a toddler. She saw a commercial for The Little Mermaid on TV; and the rest, as they say, was history!
My daughters love of Ariel and Sebastian was immediate and permanent. Watching our daughter delight in this movie at such a young age holds precious memories for us; so when I got selected to review the Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection CD honoring The Little Mermaid, I was thrilled! As were both my daughters.

About The Legacy Collection The Little Mermaid CD with collectible book:
"The label honors one of the most beloved soundtracks of all time with the 25th anniversary release of Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection The Little Mermaid available today. The Little Mermaid collection features the songs and score from the film by Oscar®-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman on Disc One, twelve work tapes and song demos performed by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman on Disc Two, and a collectible 20-page booklet. Also included are liner notes by Alan Menken, John Musker (Co-writer, Director and Producer, “The Little Mermaid”), and Chris Montan (President of Walt Disney Music)."
Isn’t the CD cover beautiful? The CD and the artwork in the collectible book are lovingly drawn by Lorelay Bove, a visual development artist at Walt Disney Animation Studios. If you watch Disney animated movies, you might recognize her style from movies like Tangled, Winnie the Pooh or Wreck- It Ralph.
I will treasure this book filled with insights, ideas and facts on the making of The Little Mermaid, including the film, animation and musical scores!
Sneak Peek inside the collectible book |
Here’s a cool fact I learned: The Little Mermaid was a milestone in Disney animation, being the first princess musical to be made at Disney since the 1959’s Sleeping Beauty! The book is filled with animation and includes lyrics so you can sing along with songs like Part of your World and Kiss the Girl.
The Little Mermaid 2 disc CD set |
My daughters and I loved listening to the sweeping musical numbers on the CD and singing along to our beloved favorite songs. Now that my oldest is 15; we found it a little challenging to visualize where the musical scores aligned with the movie. We thought it would be fun to buy The Little Mermaid on Blu-Ray, turn down the volume and listen to the CD while watching the movie.
We loved this beautiful Legacy Collection and invite you to learn more about it and all the Disney music located at the new Disney Music Emporium. You can visit them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter as well.
The Legacy Collection The Little Mermaid CD with collectible booklet is also available to purchase on Amazon if you’d like to add it to your collection it now.

Court Yard Hounds’ Amelita is music to my ears
in #CYHAmelita., Amelita, CD, Court Yard Hounds, review, by Linda A Kinsman, Monday, August 19, 2013
I
participated in this campaign for One2One Network. I received a free copy of
the CD to facilitate my review. All
opinions stated are my own.
When
One2One Network sent out the invitation to review the latest CD from Court Yard
Hounds, I jumped at the chance. We've been fans of Emily and Martie's wonderful harmonizing and artistic playing since the first Dixie Chicks single went mainstream.
Personally, I am
thrilled that all 3 ex- Dixie Chicks are still friends and still recording music!
About Court
Yard Hounds:
Courtesy: One2One Network |
“After a few years
away from the lime light and the Dixie Chicks, the two sisters (Emily Robison
and Martie Maguire) were ready to get back into the studio with the creation of
Court Yard Hounds, named after the novel within Game of Thrones creator David
Benioff’s novel City of Thieves. The process proved exhilarating and fulfilling
and was welcomed with much critical and fan praise, securing the girls a spot
in the Top 10 of the Billboard Charts for their debut. To them a follow-up
album was a clear next step, affirming the Court Yard Hounds as a band, not
just a side project.
The
Court Yard Hounds’ new album is a clear statement of who the girls are as
artists, defining their sound as a band, with soaring songs that are personal,
yet familiar and widely relatable.”
About
Amelita:
Courtesy: One2One Network |
Containing 11 new tracks, Robison and Maguire to a different approach with Amelita than their debut album in 2010. This album contains a new perspective, which is due in part to time passed since Robison's divorce. “I’ve been freed of all of those time-heals-everything kind of things,”
says Robison. “Now, I’ve opened up to other ideas and ways of looking at life
and the world. I think it’s not only a more hopeful album, but it’s more… well
fun.
My Review:
I was so
excited to see Amelita in my mailbox! I really liked the style of the CD
jacket. I think it tells you a lot about the artists and the songs you are
about to listen to. This jacket said “feminine” and “serious” to me. The songs
proved me right.
I listened
to this CD first with my youngest daughter, who is a big Dixie Chicks fan
borrowing my CD’s all the time. So I watched for her reaction before sharing my
own. With the very first song, Sunshine I could tell she liked what she heard,
as did I. At the end, we smiled and said
“I like it” at the exact same time. Court Yard Hounds was off to a good start.
The title
track Amelita is a catchy song and I found myself humming the next day. Some of
the tracks weren’t my particular style (Rock All Night) for one. Still, I found
the CD has a good, natural flow to it, very easy to listen too.
Emily has a strong, pure way of singing that
is only enhanced by Martie’s harmony. And I must applaud Martie for taking the
lead on A Guy Like You and Gets you down! You shined!
I thoroughly
enjoyed Amelita as did both my daughters. My youngest even asked to borrow it
for her sleepover Saturday night, so watch out Emily and Martie ~ you are
making some tween fans!
I do recommend this CD for anybody who likes good
harmonizing on songs with a country-pop vibe.

About Time:
Rod on Writing Time:
I was hooked on Rod Stewart from the first time I heard his gruff voice on my radio singing
"Wake up Maggie, I think I got something to say to you".
So when I got the email from One@One Network saying that his new album Time was available for review, I happily joined the campaign. A big thank you to One2One Network for giving me the opportunity to listen to Rod Stewart's first original content CD released in almost 20 years!
About Time:
Courtesy: One2One Network |
- Rod Stewart has spent four decades being a rock star, three being a parent, and has a new album's worth of rollicking stories to tell. Time is his first album of new material in almost 20 years (and his hairstyle hasn't changed one bit!)
- Time, releasing May 7th, 2013, marks Stewart's long-awaited return to his songwriting roots and features 12 tracks, 11 of which he wrote and produced.
- The album was born from a burst of inspiration that came while Rod was reviewing his life for his recent memoir.
- Rod rediscovered his voice as a songwriter and rekindled his gift for writing the honest, nerve-touching narratives that have been the cornerstone to the first three decades of his career.
Rod on Writing Time:

- "Suddenly ideas for lyrics were piling up in my head," he says. "Next thing I knew, I had a song called 'It's Over' about divorce and separation. And now I was getting up in the middle of the night and scrambling for a pen to write things down, which has never happened to me. I finished seven or eight songs very quickly and I still wasn't done, and it became apparent that I would eventually have a whole album of material to record."
My Review:
I believe song placement on an album is very important and I can see why the powers that be started us off with the up-tempo song She Makes Me Happy. It made me happy just listening to it.
Go HERE to listen to the song and then please come back and tell me what you think.
The frolicking, fun tempo continues on the second track Can't stop me now where Rod sings about his early career days and I loved that he shared when he met Maggie May!
On the next two tracks, Rod gets serious. On It's Over, his song about divorce, I admired him for remembering his children and saying he'd do whatever suits her. You can really feel his heart in this song.
Then Brighton Beach is written from the loved and lost eye of youth where he asks "Do you ever stop and think about me? So relatable because who among us hasn't wondered if a high school sweet heart still remembers us?
A few of the tracks didn't resonate with me. They were good musically, but being a lover of a great lyric, I wanted more of the writing I'd heard in the first few tracks. I think my favorite songs were the one's in which he wrote about children.
They touched on such strong emotions that you feel honored to feel his heart through his words.
Pure Love, the final and best track (in my humble opinion) is a perfect example of that and this song moved me to tears.
My Take Away:
Time was well worth the wait! Rod Stewart invites us into his life over the last couple of decades with his well written and performed songs. He remembers and honors those that have left a mark on his life and heart. He admits to not being perfect and that he's not done living and having fun, just in a more mature way.
I would highly recommend this CD to any Rod Stewart fan or anybody who loves a good love song! There are several to choose from on this CD.
You can also catch him on Katie – Airing 5-10-13 at 3pm EST / Check Local Listings on ABC.
I hope you found this review helpful. Are you a Rod Stewart fan? If so, what's your favorite song?
Did you know that Emmy Rossum, who plays Fiona Gallagher on Showtime’s Shameless, was also a singer? I sure didn’t.
But I was pleasantly surprised by her voice recently when I got the opportunity to listen to her new CD, Sentimental Journey.

About Sentimental Journey: Release Date: January 29, 2013
Label: Warner Bros. Records
Label: Warner Bros. Records
Sentimental Journey is a collection of covers of classic songs that span the '20s to the '60s. The album's highlights include its title track, which was a No. 1 hit for Les Brown and His Band of Renown with Doris Day as the vocalist in 1945; "These Foolish Things," a '30s standard that has been recorded by everyone from Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby to Rod Stewart and Michael Buble; "Summer Wind," which was popularized by Frank Sinatra in 1966; and "I'll Be With You In Apple Blossom Time," which was a Top 5 hit for the Andrews Sisters in 1941.
Emmy’s Vision for the CD: Emmy's 12-song 'passion project' is an emotional musical journey, with each song representing a month in the year.
"Each song needed to either lyrically or emotionally reflect the corresponding month," Emmy explained. "Some songs were obvious fits, like Summer Wind for June, and Pretty Paper for December. Others songs were less literal fits. I chose Nobody Knows You (When you’re Down and Out) for September because, to me, the plaintive melody and lyric emotionally reflect the cold weather creeping in and the sense of melancholy we can get in the fall months."
My Review:
Having never heard Emmy sing, I was unsure what to expect, but once I understood where she was coming from stylistically, I really enjoyed the CD, with each song reminding me of different places and times in my childhood with my parents and grandparents.
My personal favorite was her rendition of Frank Sinatra’s 1966 hit Summer Wind.
