Steps of Faith Movie review and DVD giveaway
in #AD, #StepsOfFaithL3, Christian, entertainment, faith, family movie night, horses, movies, by Linda A Kinsman, Thursday, June 07, 2018
Happy June my friends! Are you already in full summertime mode? We are here! We’ve been enjoying meals on the back deck are planning fun activities for this happy season. For us, summer means move family movie nights so I’m excited to share this movie review and giveaway with you today. Steps of Faith movie is perfect for all ages, making it a great addition to your movie collection.
Steps of Faith Movie:
Love is the only way. That is a powerful message to convey to today's’ world, but love is really at the heart of life isn’t it? When a child acts out, what do parents do? We love them more. When a loved one or friend hurts, we hurt along with them and pour love over them. When a community weeps, we weep with them and try to help by showing acts of kindness, support, and love. Just like Apostle Paul, we should adopt the love is the only way mentality. I am thrilled to partner with Lev3l Digital and Sony Pictures Entertainment/ AFFIRM Films for today's’ post about the movie Paul, the Apostle of Christ coming to theaters just in time for Easter.

Today, I’ve partnered with Flyby, to share a beautiful book with you; ADORED 365-day devotional for young women book. If you are raising a teen daughter like I am, this Christian based devotional book may be a perfect Christmas gift, so please enter my giveaway after reading my review.
Happy Friday and happy fall everyone! Indian summer is in full swing this week here in the Nashville Tennessee area, but that won’t stop me from picking up pumpkins and gourds this weekend. While I’m driving all around town, I’ll be listening to this complementary CD I received from Flyby for today’s post and giveaway. I’ve been a fan of Matthew West for a while now, so I was thrilled to add his latest to my CD collection.
Spring is knocking on the door here, not only in the beautiful Tennessee landscape I adore, but in my heart as well. To me, spring is always a time of renewal, reflection and rebirth. As a Christian family, it is an important time in our lives with Lent and soon, Easter. I'm glad I was given the opportunity to share a Christian based movie with you today.
This is a sponsored post on behalf of Review Wire Media for The Lumo Project. I received information to facilitate my review and will receive a copy of movie to thank me for my participation.
I am really excited to have an opportunity to watch The Gospel of Mark, but as luck would have it, my package hasn't arrived yet. Since the movie became available March 14th, I'm choosing to host my giveaway first and come back and share my review later.
As a Christian Mom, I can think of no better gift than being able to share the bible and it’s teachings with children in a way they can understand. When I was a kid, it was sometimes challenging to understand bible verses from the King James Bible my family and church had.
Today, Christians can pick up new living versions of the Bible easily at any book store. Thanks to today’s sponsor, FlyBy Promotions, I’m pleased to share a wonderful new children’s bible entitled Under the Sea Holy Bible (Nirv), published by Zonderkids. While I did receive a complimentary copy of this Bible as a thank you for hosting this review and giveaway, it is my honor to do so and all opinions stated here are my own.
About Under the Sea Holy Bible (Nirv):
“The Under the Sea Holy Bible, Nirv is a perfect gift for children ages 6 to 10. Themes of underwater fun and sparkling fish grace the interior of this wonderful children’s Bible. The outside is covered in foil and sparkle. The interior has color inserts featuring whimsical underwater scenes with themes of God’s care and love for each of us and all of creation.”
My Thoughts:
Just looking at the colorful cover on this Bible makes me happy! I was immediately drawn in. I reverently opened the book and started turning pages. This is truly a teaching Bible and the lessons start right from the beginning on the Books of the Bible page, which is a bookcase. The Old Testament labeled law is on the left side of the top shelf. The New Testament, labeled Gospels and Church history is on the right. Down the shelves of the bookcase, you’ll find History books of the Bible (Joshua, Judges, Ruth, etc.) and Letters (Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, etc.).
You’ll find teachable pages like the photo above that shows the ABCs of becoming a Christian and the Prayer Is page which tells children what prayer is (talking to God) and then shows the an easy way to pray by using their fingers.
My daughters and I love this children’s Bible and think it would be a perfect gift for kids at Easter or anytime of the year really. I invite you to learn more about the Under the Sea Holy Bible (Nirv) by visiting Zondervan.com, or by following ZonderKids on Facebook and Twitter.
If you’d like to purchase a copy today, you can shop with Barnes & Noble, Walmart or FamilyChristian stores. Every Nirv Bible you purchase helps Biblica translate and give Bibles to people in need around the world! I think that’s a perfect way to share our Christian faith now and Easter.

Having just celebrated a very merry Christmas, I couldn’t
pass up the chance to help spread the good word about a new Christian books
series for little girls. I received a complimentary copy of The Adventures of Rooney Cruz: Hannah the
Belle of Prayer written by Erin Weidermann.
About the Bible Belle
Series:
This is a new series of books designed to give little girls
female heroes to look up to. Each book in the series tells the stories of women
in the bible through the eyes of a modern girl names Rooney Cruz. Today’s review focuses on Hannah the Belle of
Prayer. Since these books are aimed at girls, my 12 year old daughter honored
us with her review below.
REVIEW BY: Melissa Kinsman
Hannah the Belle of
Prayer is a book about a little girl named Rooney Cruz, a girl who is
bullied. She doesn’t understand why the popular girls are so mean! All of a
sudden, an angel ‒ Rooney’s guardian angel, Mari, appears. At first, Rooney is
in shock, and she doesn’t believe that that could be a real angel. Mari
proceeds to tell her about The Bible Belles who are Bible
superheroes!
Mari takes Rooney on an adventure to learn about Hannah. She
learns that Hannah is bullied also, by the mean Peninnah, who is rude to Hannah
because she is unable to conceive children. Finally, as Hannah goes to pray to
God, the priest Eli blesses her. After her prayer, God blessed her with a baby
boy named Samuel. Now that Rooney knows Hannah’s story, she wants to try
praying too. And she receives a bell, a gift from God.
Despite the fact that this is a children’s book, it is a
great book for the parents to read with their child as they may have questions
that will open great discussion. It is educational in two ways: it educates
them in prayer and also in bullying. The
book is a fun story with great experiences that will have any age group wanting
more BIBLE BELLES stories. I think
author Erin Weidemann did a great job!

What a Girl Needs from her Mom by Cheri Fuller is helpful
in books, Christian, parenting teens, raising daughters, by Linda A Kinsman, Thursday, April 16, 2015
As part of the Family Christian bloggers network, I was recently asked if I would like to review this book and since I love working with Family Christian and I love my daughter’s I said yes. I received a free copy of What a Girl Needs from her Mom and a thank you item for my time. Thoughts shared today are my own.
Source |
I’ve read many books on general parenting and a few exclusively for the often lovely, yet often trying relationship between Moms and Daughters. I didn’t want another hard hitting, just the facts style parenting book- I wanted a parenting book that spoke to the Mom I’m learning to be now- a guide book of sorts.
That’s exactly what I found in the pages of What a girl needs from her Mom. I’ll share more of my thoughts in a moment, but first let me share with you the details of the book from Family Christian’s website where you can purchase this and other helpful books and learn more about the author, Cheri Fuller if you'd like to.
What a Girl Needs from her Mom by Cheri Fuller:
“Mystified by the situations girls face today? There's a good reason, Mom. Our girls are growing up in a completely different world than we did. But whether your daughter is very young or a teenager, you can equip yourself with the wisdom and practical help she needs for the pressures and decisions ahead. With keen insight and warm encouragement, Cheri Fuller shares how you can become a more welcome influence at every stage in your daughter's life. Drawing from her own experiences and the expertise of others, Cheri answers all the top questions, including:
- "How can I help my girl avoid the dangers of social media and navigate the digital world?"
- "How can I counter society's unhealthy messages about body image and sexuality?
- "How can I help my daughter (and me!?) deal with her emotional ups and downs?"
- "What are the best ways to instill good values?"
- "How can I help her grow a firm faith in God?"
Filled with trustworthy suggestions, this book will help you steer your daughter toward becoming a healthy, confident young woman.
Very early on in the book (page 16), I read a simple message that I shared immediately. Cheri said there are No perfect Moms. There is no magic formula. No doing this will equal a perfect daughter, or a perfect Mom. After reading that, I knew I was going to really like this book!
What a girl needs from her Mom covers all ages and stages, so I found myself flipping to relevant chapters depending on the day and what was on my heart for my relationship with my teen and tween daughters.
One particularly helpful chapter for me was A Mom who listens with her Heart and specifically the Roadblocks to Communication section.
Cheri’s Communication Roadblocks are:
- Giving advice before hearing her out.
- Finishing her sentences.
- Jumping in with positive thoughts to cheer her up when she’s expressing sadness or anger (I raise my hand on this one!)
- Tossing orders and giving little lectures. (I must raise my hand on this one too)
- Criticizing her.
Here I revisited a few problems with communication in my relationship with my Mom when I was a tween and teen. I spent time each day unpacking each point, or roadblock; to see if I needed to work on these areas to better communicate with my daughters.
While I do give myself an overall good grade on this Mom thing- I do have areas I need to improve upon. Just like our kids do, so in my humble opinion, we should cut each other some slack here. I have been intentional in my parenting since reading this chapter and found it has helped me slow down and be present and mindful in the moment.
Both Mom and daughters (and sons for that matter) are growing up in a different time than we did! Our kids have it tougher than ever! But you Moms already know that.
If you need help understanding where your daughters are now, I offer you some tips I've learned along the way.
Spend an afternoon volunteering at their school if possible and watch how their peers talk, dress etc. Go to the mall with them and actively listen to kids their age, get in touch with what goes on around them. Host a sleep-over with one or two of your daughters closest friends and let them be themselves. You would be amazed at what these kids share if they feel comfortable and safe. Be that safe place, please.
And then read this book. It will not only help you be a better equipped, more understanding Mom, it just may help you be a better adult as well.
With Mother's Day rapidly approaching, I would like to take a moment to wish you all a very Happy Mother's Day!
Before Amen by Max Lucado stays at the top of my reading list
in book, Christian, grow, learn, self improvement, simple prayer, teach, by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, January 30, 2015
I was so excited
when I was approached by Family Christian Blogger group to write a post and
receive a free copy of their 2015 Book
of the Year pick: Before Amen by Max Lucado. All opinions expressed are my own.
Before Amen stays on top of my reading list!
The idea of a
simple prayer, one that would be good enough, powerful enough, dare I say it- Christian enough was intriguing to me. I am a Christian woman, living smack dab in
the middle of the Bible belt, so I have heard my fair share of impassioned
prayers.
In church, in bible study group, in the pick- up line at my kid’s
school… and my simple prayers always felt small and somehow less than when compared to others wordy
and usually, lengthy prayers. To put it bluntly- I would never be asked to join
the Prayer Warriors group!
After reading and
in some parts, re-reading the amazing Before Amen, I now know something that
gives me great confidence and helps me stand tall when I feel the need to pray.
My simple prayers of “Dear Lord, please help me in this moment”, are perfectly
okay to the only one that matters; Christ.
About Before Amen: The Power of
a Simple Prayer by Max Lucado:
“We all pray ... some. We pray to
stay sober, centered, or solvent. When the lump is deemed malignant. When the
money runs out before the month does. When the marriage is falling apart. We
pray.
In Before Amen, bestselling author Max Lucado joins
readers on a journey to the very heart of biblical prayer, offering hope for
doubts and confidence even for prayer
wimps. Distilling prayers in the Bible down to one pocket-sized prayer, Max
reminds readers that prayer is not a privilege for the pious nor the art of a
chosen few. Prayer is simply a heartfelt conversation between God and his
child. Let the conversation begin.”
My Thoughts:
Max Lucado
welcomed me into this book, like a dear friend would welcome me into their
home. He hit the perfect mix of being an authority on the subject of prayer and the Bible without being overbearing. There wasn’t one single moment in
this book where I felt I was being talked down to, or preached to.
I
actually learned biblical lessons
from reading Before Amen that I
somehow hadn’t retained from church sermons or bible study. For instance, did
you know the first followers of Jesus needed prayer guidance? In fact, the only
tutorial they ever requested was on prayer!
There
really is something in the delivery of information folks and Max Lucado teaches
in a way that I get.
I have
leaned heavily on the pocket prayer since first reading because it is such a
simple, yet powerful prayer.
The Pocket Prayer:
Father,
You are
good.
I need
help. Heal me and forgive me.
They
need help.
Thank
you.
In
Jesus’ name, amen.
Now
that I know more about Intercessory prayer, I can expand on my prayers without
feeling I’m not “Christian” enough.
As Max says; “Intercessory prayer isn’t
rocket science. It acknowledges our inability and God’s ability.”
If
you are just entering your walk with Christ, or if you are like me and you feel
like your prayers don’t quite measure up, I highly recommend you read Before
Amen because the author is a self- professed prayer wimp that gets us!
The best
part about reading Before Amen is that the words and teachings are staying with
me. I’m praying more in the moment, not just for myself or my family, but for
the world at large.
I’ve shared many passages with my family as well and they
have been moved as well. In fact, my youngest daughter who’s 12 asked if she
could please read this book next. That’s
how impactful this book is.
Family
Christian has named Before Amen their 2015 book of the year, so I invite you to
visit their website where you can read more thoughts on Before Amen and if you
are so moved, purchase a copy for yourself or a loved one. You’ll be able to
discover more books and guides from Max Lucado as well.
