About Day by Day Chronological Bible:

Release date: January 2019/Publisher: Lifeway Christian Resources/Bible Translation: CSB

Day by Day Chronological Bible #ad #csbBibleL3

"Many people are unfamiliar with the stories of the Bible and how they fit together into the grand narrative of God’s Word. God gave us the Bible to reveal great truth about himself and about our lives, and he wants to draw us into the ongoing story of what he is doing in the world. The CSB Day-by-Day Chronological Bible features a clear narrative approach to the Bible, arranging the complete text into a fresh chronological reading plan with daily readings guided by Dr. George Guthrie."

How to use this Bible:

According to the author, Dr. George Guthrie, we should set aside time each day to read the bible. If we can read at the same time every day, it will become habit, like anything else we do consistently in about 21 days.  We should think of the bible as one long story. To look upon the 66 books of the bible as one grand story and once we understand the people, places and messages within this grand story, we will also better understand our own place in the story.

In this plan, the books, chapters, and verses of the Bible are thoughtfully arranged so readers can track the story of Scripture, day-by-day, from beginning to end, understanding the flow of events and how the grand narrative of Scripture applies to everyday life.

How the Day by Day Chronological Bible is different:

Unlike other chronological Bibles, this arrangement is not date specific (e.g. “January 1”), so the reading plan can begin at any point in the calendar year. That is important to me because I’ve tried using other bible study books and methods, but I would become stressed if I missed a day of reading and studying. Then, I would re-double my efforts to stay on track and read the whole bible in a year which honestly took the joy out of reading and learning.

How this bible is set up:

There's 52 weeks of readings, that’s six readings per week in chronological order. The scripture is presented in three main acts:

  • God’s Plan for All People
  • God’s Covenant People
  • God’s New Covenant People

There are seventeen total scenes, with an introduction for each act and scene to orient the reader to its importance in the grand story. Just like most regular bibles, there are helpful maps in the back of the bible to help us better understand where things took place.

The CSB Day-by-Day Chronological Bible, which is available now in Lifeway bookstores, features the highly readable, highly reliable text of the Christian Standard Bible® (CSB). The CSB stays as literal as possible to the Bible’s original meaning without sacrificing clarity, making it easier to engage with scripture’s life-transforming message and to share it with others.

My Thoughts:

I love the rich feel of this leather- bound bible and how the pages crinkle when I turn them. That sound takes me back to my young childhood days listening to my Grandma read scripture to her grandchildren on Sunday afternoons at her house. It was happy, family time where we got to share what we learned in Sunday school that day. Listening to my Grandma walk us through the daily verses became a treasured routine for me and my siblings. I know she is smiling down upon me now as I try again to keep my promise to open my bible daily.

Another feature that I really like is there is plenty of space for taking notes on the side of the text and there are prompts to help you think on your day. For instance, on day 1 week two in Genesis, you’re asked Whom might you bless today? How will you do so?

While I can’t bring myself to write in this beautiful book just yet, I wrote my answer on a post-it-note, stating that I wanted to bless my youngest daughter this week with extra one on one time after school to talk or just hang out. I would not multi-task while we chatted!

I feel like I’m retraining myself to view the bible differently and relearning books, or stories in a new and refreshing way.

The Take Away:

The Day by Day Chronological Bible is perfect for anyone who has added “Read the Bible Daily” to the top of a to-do list for the day or even the year. Since receiving this bible last week, I feel like this will be the year that I become more confident with my knowledge of the bible. I’ll be able to join in more during bible study class, or, really dive in when our preacher starts a new series. I’m excited about this year and want you to be as well. I invite you to visit Lifeway to learn more about this bible and to follow them on Twitter

Though I would love to keep it, I would gift it to my son who is away at college, left his Bible here in his car and is facing some emotional struggles right now as things in his life are ever-changing.
