We are gearing up to have a fun family style Halloween at home this year, so we’ve been planning dinner, snacks, and drink options. In our house, we all like to cook, so no matter the season, refrigerator space is always in short supply. I cleaned out all the condiments and leftovers I could, but that didn’t free up much space for drinks. I recently received an invitation from Newair to try a  to try out a new appliance from them that solved this problem. They sent me a complimentary 16 bottle free-standing wine cooler fridge which will save valuable refrigerator space now and throughout the busy holiday season coming up. If you’ve every thought you couldn’t possibly squeeze one more thing into your fridge, read on for details.

Space Saving Wine Fridge:

Save valuable fridge space with a free standing wine fridge

It may surprise some, but I’ve made it to my 50s and never explored wines. Sure, I’ve had the occasional glass of celebratory wine but never cared enough to explore the many nuances that come with being a wine drinker. With several spring celebrations on the horizon, filled with family and friends who adore wine, I felt it was time I started learning about wine as a beginner, especially since I’d been given three bottles of wine to try. If you are a novice wine drinker, or just like learning more about wines, read on.

As I was adding this book review to my editorial planner, I thought, "It’s not very often there’s a weekday in the name of a book title, so I should honor that by posting on that day!" Happy Wednesday, dear readers, I’m excited to share a refreshing Champagne Bowler recipe from Wednesday Night Wine-Down by Jennifer Newens with you today.

Bread & Wine by Shauna Niequist Review

in , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Tuesday, April 30, 2013

My mailbox brings an assortment of products, letters and parcels that my family and I look forward to opening. Books hold a special place in my heart and I always open them first. Nothing beats that new book smell I say to my daughters and thankfully, they agree.
This week I'm sharing another ARC book courtesy of Zondervan media. This free book was sent to me to read and share my thoughts with you, which are 100% my own.

About the book: Bread & Wine - A love letter to life around the table with recipes.

"As a follow up to her two bestselling books, Bittersweet and Cold Tangerines, author and blogger Shauna Niequist returns with the perfect read for those who love food and value the community and connection of family and friends around the table.

Bread & Wine is a collection of essays about family relationships, friendships, and the meals that bring us together. This mix of Anne Lamott and Barefoot Contessa is a funny, honest, and vulnerable spiritual memoir.

Bread & Wine is a celebration of food shared, reminding readers of the joy found in a life around the table. It’s about the ways God teaches and nourishes people as they nourish the people around them.

It’s about hunger, both physical and otherwise, and the connections between the two. With wonderful recipes included, from Bacon-Wrapped Dates to Mango Chicken Curry to Blueberry Crisp, readers will be able to recreate the comforting and satisfying meals that come to life in Bread & Wine."

My Review:
I love this book! The title and cover photo speaks of happy times and this book doesn't disappoint. I laughed, I cried and I shook my head in total agreement as I happily read. Shauna Niequist's Bread & Wine spoke to my heart in several ways and made me want to start my own cooking club. Or at the very least, a book club so I can share this book with others. Shauna makes it easy to do both, sharing her entertaining tips, sample menu's, recipes, pantry lists and even a four week book club discussion guide!

I highly recommend this book and will keep this in mind for gifts for a few of my friends and family. I loved Shauna's writing style so much that I am going to read her other books as well.

Sweet Summer Sipping with Eppa SupraFruta Sangria

in , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, May 30, 2014

Confession, I’ve gone all my adult life and never tried Sangria until last weekend.  Crazy as it sounds; I am not much of a wine drinker, so passing on the Sangria wasn’t hard. But, I kept hearing from friends how wonderful Sangria is, so when an opportunity to try Eppa’s SupraFruta Sangria free of charge came along, I decided to go for it.  Adding this Sangria to our Memorial Day weekend was a wonderful decision I must say!

About Eppa SupraFruta Sangria:

Crafted in beautiful Mendocino California, Eppa SupraFruta Sangria is a blend of organic, antioxidant rich superfruit juices and wine made from organically grown grapes.  That sounds healthy and good doesn’t it?

My husband and I couldn’t wait to try these.  As a Red Wine drinker, my husband was intrigued by the Eppa Red which has Pomegranate, Blueberry, Blood orange and Acai juices.

I wanted to try the Eppa White which contains Mangosteen, Peach, Mango and Mediterranean Blood Orange juices.

After chilling the Sangria’s over night as per the bottles instructions we poured a small serving of each and took turns sipping.

The Eppa Red was a little tart for my taste, but my husband true to form, loved the tart citrusy taste of it.

#Summer Sipper
Chilled Red Eppa Sangria

We both picked up the hint of berry and orange which balanced beautifully with the red wine. This Sangria is very smooth, not too dry and would pair well with any summer dish.

The Eppa White was sweet and delightfully fruity!

We both loved the aroma and the taste is a cross between the best fruit juice you’ve ever tasted and a nice white wine. I would serve this anytime!
My friends were right to sing the praises of Sangria. I’m sold on this Sangria and will happily purchase Eppa SupraFruta Sangria’s to share with friends. Now that I'm not a Sangria newbie, the next glass of Eppa Sangria we share will be served over ice so it will be super chilled and I’ll add some fruit for good measure.
I invite you to learn more about Eppa SupraFruta Sangria by visiting their Facebook page and their website  to find out more about Eppa and where you can purchase their products.

In comments please share if you are a Sangria drinker and if so, do you prefer Red or White wine types?

From a portable heater that’s perfect for taking the chill out of a guest room, a space saving wine fridge, to their popular counter top clear ice maker, I’ve had a wonderful experience with this brand. I was delighted recently when I was asked to become an NewAir Ambassador and help them celebrate their 20th anniversary by reviewing the NewAir Anniversary Series limited edition 100 Can beverage Fridge which helps chill drinks easily.

Meet the newest NewAir Fridge!

Bon Appetit meals are a hit!

I served 2 of the Bon Appetit parchment meals recently for my family’s dinner.  Along with a garden salad and garlic bread, this was a quick and easy way to get a healthy meal on the table quickly.
The meals are very easy to prepare, just place on a pan and pop in the oven.

Our choices were Beef in Red Wine Sauce and the Chicken Florentine.

Both got rave reviews!

Both parchment meals provided more than enough entree.  My husband was stuffed after his meal . The rest of us had to save some of ours!

The Beef in Wine Sauce was our clear favorite!

Bon Appetit Beef in Wine Sauce

A few statements from my family:

This is almost as good as yours Mommy! Serve this again! Or from my hubby: if a guy doesn’t cook but wants to impress a lady, he could pass this off as homemade!

Neither my husband nor I could detect any attributes usually imparted by the use of wine (subtle earthiness in sauce/flavor or darkening of sauce), but we will definitely buy this again to keep on hand for busy nights. We are also recommending this to friends. Especially those who may be single, pressed for time or simply don’t enjoy cooking.

We give this meal an A +++!

The Chicken Florentine, while very good, didn’t get quite the same rave reviews.

Bon Appetit Chicken Florentine

We loved the healthy amount of spinach used in the creamy Parmesan sauce, which was outstanding!
We liked that the chicken remained moist and tender, but felt it required a bit more seasoning, even just salt and pepper and wished would could have seasoned prior to cooking.

My daughters both enjoyed this dish and even said it was better than some restaurants’ Chicken Florentine they’ve had!

For my husband and myself, there was just something off about the pasta. It tasted like frozen pasta.

Overall we would still recommend this product and give it an A!

Thank you Bon Appetit and BZZ Agent for the opportunity to try these products.

Update: 6-22-12
I'm adding a link to Bon Appetit's store locator so you can find these in your area.

Happy New Year dear readers! Since it’s the seventh day of the month, I’m sure you are getting tired of hearing that, but I would be remiss in my blogging duties if I didn’t extend well wishes here- the hub of all I do online. Now I can dive into today’s topic, my top six blog posts of 2024.

Blog Recap of 2024

Did you know that September is International Women’s friendship Month? It’s true! Women’s Friendship Day, started in 1999 by Kappa Delta sorority, was changed to a full month celebration of women’s friendships in 2009 because the day of celebration became so popular. I was thrilled to learn that I’d been selected to review and give away the new Fabulous Friends collection as part of the Love, Hallmark blogger group.  While I  did receive complimentary products for my post today, all opinions, love of beautiful products and friendships are 100% my own.

Please share in comments: Which Hallmark Fabulous Friend product is your favorite and why.
Sunday dinners hold a special place in both my husband and my hearts. Memories of dining at our grandparents homes, surrounded by lots of family members; tables stuffed with so much good food it was certain no one left hungry or without leftovers!  Even though time and distance keeps us from having Sunday dinners with our extended families often;  we preserve these family traditions and pass them on to our daughters with home-cooked Sunday dinners. Thanks to today’s post sponsor: Publix #PublixVivaItaliaSale, I whipped up my tasty take of Chicken Cacciatore last night and my family loved it!

Sunday dinner: Chicken Cacciatore w/veggies and french bread

Let me say right up front- this is not a traditional Italian Chicken Cacciatore recipe. This is one I’ve changed and perfected over the years using as many ingredients as I have on hand. For instance, in summer, I’m looking for dishes to use up my zucchini and yellow squash so there would be no need for me to use frozen bagged vegetables like Green Giant's in my Cacciatore dish.

Raid your pantry for Sunday dinner ingredients

Sunday dinners are perfect for “raid your pantry” type meals, so don’t be afraid to try out new flavors or products in a dish. That’s how I found out that adding Progresso reduced sodium creamy tomato with Basil soup to my sauce imparts a light and flavorful creaminess my family enjoys with less calories and sodium! To make this an even healthier dish, I use chicken breasts rather than skinned chicken thighs.

Ingredients:
Serves 6
  • 2 cups dried pasta of choice (I used Farfalle)
  • 4 medium to large boneless chicken breasts
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 2 cups fresh zucchini, squash, cauliflower chopped (use 2 bags frozen veggies if you don’t have fresh)
  •  ½ to 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • ½ yellow or white onion
  • 2 14.5 oz. cans Hunts Diced Basil, Garlic & Oregano Tomatoes (use juice)
  • 1 19 oz. can Progresso reduced sodium creamy tomato with Basil soup
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 sprig Rosemary
  • Grated Parmesan cheese to garnish
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

In large, lightly oiled skillet brown salt and peppered chicken breasts till cooked. I cut my chicken into medium bite size pieces for faster cooking time.
While chicken is cooking, chop up mushrooms, garlic and onion.
Once chicken breasts are cooked, pull from pan and set aside. Deglaze pan with red wine, then add onions, garlic and mushrooms. Lightly brown.
Next add fresh or frozen veggies to pan, sauté till al dente, about 10 minutes.
Put water with a bit of oil and salt on to boil.

Simmer Chicken Cacciatore veggie sauce till bubbly

Now that veggies are mostly cooked, add to pan tomatoes with juice, Progresso creamy Tomato and Basil soup.
Add chicken back to sauce. Stir until well covered.
Add Rosemary and any additional salt and pepper needed.
Simmer sauce for 15 minutes while pasta cooks.
Drain pasta, drizzle with olive oil. Cover.
Plate pasta, cover with Chicken Cacciatore Sauce.

Manja!

This hearty Italian style Chicken Cacciatore dish is a delightful Sunday family style meal! I served a loaf of Pillsbury French bread with our dinner that I’d picked up while shopping at Publix. You can save a $1.00 off any 3 Pillsbury breads and $2.00 off Publix fresh chicken and more when you shop the #PublixVivaItaliaSale in store and by visiting www.readyplansave.com to download coupons. Be sure to check out their great recipes while you are there too and you’ll be serving up smiles with your Sunday dinners as well.

Win it!

Thanks to our Sponsor, Publix, one lucky winner will receive a $10 PayPal cash transfer so they can go shop the #PublixVivaItalia sale and serve up something Italian soon.

We are almost to the end of the coldest month of the year for most of the United States, but that doesn’t mean the freezing temps are behind us. If your garage functions as a workshop for projects and storage like ours does, you may be in need of a portable heater to help warm up that space.  I’ve got a great space saving, portable heater from NewAir to share with you today.

Heat your Garage Easily and Affordably!

Here in the south, humidity starts rising in late March or early April and doesn’t abate until late October, early November. That means for the better part of a year, southerners, or anybody in a high humidity area are seeking ways to lower the humidity in our homes in late summer. I was thrilled when I received the opportunity to try a Newair Compact Portable Air Conditioner and dehumidifier because our AC unit needed some help in certain areas of our home.
