in , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Wednesday, March 08, 2023

As a busy WAHM of two professional young women, it is my honor to help them and all women celebrate today, International Women’s Day, and every day in March, which is Women’s History Month. Women uplifting and supporting other women is a passion of mine, so hosting a giveaway for a clean vitamins line that's easy to take was a natural fit because our health should be high on our list of priorities.

Superior Source Vitamins are Clean, Pure and Simple

Happy first Friday of February friends! I’ve had a very productive week, which means most days I was eating lunch on the fly and grazing my way through the afternoon until I’d cook and eat a proper dinner. Do you know those kinds of busy days where you eat a hand full of almonds here, and an apple there? I decided today I was going to treat myself to a proper lunch, so I used the leftovers from last night and made a Roasted Red Pepper BLT Wraps for a quick lunch. It was so, so good! I want to share this simple lunch idea with you and give you a chance to win some wraps too.

I’m smiling while I type this because it’s Friday! Not just any Friday, it’s the Friday that kicks off the long Memorial Day weekend; helps me celebrate another amazing year on this planet and kicks off summer around here! There are so many good reasons to smile today! Another reason I’m smiling is I’ve partnered with Smile Health Dental Plans to share their eight tips to save your smile and your life. Plus, because it’s Friday and I want you to smile too, I’m hosting a giveaway for a Your Smile Health = Your Body Health Care Kit below.

Your Smile Health = Your Body Health Care Kit #giveaway #ad

This post has been sponsored by SheSpeaks, Inc., General Mills, and Cheerios. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve been trying to take better care of myself this summer by focusing on positive ways I can switch up my daily routine. I’ve been moving more, drinking more water and listening to my body when it says I need a break from work. These are all good ways to show myself some love and I’m feeling really good about my progress so far! I still need to work on eating breakfasts though. It’s a proven fact that a good way to start your day off right is with a hearty breakfast and I’m happy to share a new breakfast cereal I love and will eat most mornings!

To all the moms of teenagers, I want to stop right here and give you a round of applause! We have finally gotten to an age and stage in parenting where we get to be a little more hands-off. We get to watch our not-so-little kids’ blossom into amazing young adults with full schedules and the healthy appetites to match. That’s why I’m so excited to introduce you to Yoplait’s newest product: Yoplait ® Go Big ™ yogurt pouches, the perfect snack for amazing teens!

My 13 year old daughter, rocking her homework

My thirteen-year-old puts in long days. She gets up at 5:20 am for school and often isn’t home from school until after 5:00 pm when she has theater rehearsal, or an after-school choir event.  I try to pack her a healthy lunch and snack to help keep her fueled up until she gets home.  I’m thankful to have another healthy snack option in my arsenal.

The new Yoplait Go Big pouches come in a handy fridge box for easy grab and go snacking. They’re made with real fruit in two tasty flavor combos: Strawberry/Mixed Berry or Peach Mango/Cherry.  They have no artificial colors or high fructose corn syrup, and are a good source of calcium.

#YoplaitGoBig yogurt pouches in handy fridge box

As most moms can attest, it doesn’t matter how well-thought-out the lunch and snack options we give our teens are ‒ some days they come back home with our busy kids, and that’s when we need to get creative with snack and homework schedules.

#YoplaitGoBig peach mango yogurt is a perfect homework snack

Now that Melissa is thirteen, I’ve loosened the reins on how and where homework can be done. As long as it gets done, I can let some of my guidelines and parameters of elementary school days go.  I allow her to set up their homework area where and however makes her feel most comfortable.  If she wants to sprawl out on her bedroom floor, or the family room, I now say, go for it!  One day, she may prefer sitting at the table with a snack, a candle, iced coffee and music from her playlist, and now I can say, why not?

Let teens choose how best to crush their homework schedules #YoplaitGoBig

For all the moms with kids in sports, band and dance programs, these cool, easy grip and rip yogurt pouches are perfect for on-the-go snacking, too!  Since they have a cool design on the package that’s not at all kiddie-like, you don’t have to worry about giving them a lame snack they don’t want to be seen eating.

#YoplaitGoBig pouches have easy grip and rip openings

Plus, the awesome pouch doesn’t have a huge opening, so your teen can squeeze as much as they want in their mouths, making them a perfect, one handed, and no-spills kind of snack!

#YoplaitGoBig no spills pouch!

There’s no doubt about it ‒ our teens are leading fast-paced lives, doing amazing things at school and after. I truly am amazed at all the balls my thirteen-year-old daughter keeps in the air daily! She’s a great student, a caring and giving friend and family member, an awesome actress and singer, and budding photographer and videographer.  She and her peers are crushing being a teen in today’s busy, go for it lifestyle.  Honestly, Melissa’s commitment to excellence inspires me to re-think what I accomplish in a day!

#YoplaitGoBig the perfect snack for amazing teens

Do you have an amazing teen in your life too? Why not let Yoplait Go Big spotlight their amazingness? It’s easy, parents ‒ just visit the Go Big Facebook page and share how your teen inspires you. Go Big will select three teens with amazing stories and give them a platform to show the world! You can find more information and full contest details on the Go Big Facebook page as well.

Raising teens in this day and age may keep us on our toes, moms’ ‒ but we got this! If our teens can crush their days, so can we!

Keeping good for you, or at the very least better for you snacks in the pantry for my family is a priority for me all year, but most especially when school is in session. My girls get off the bus famished every afternoon. I always have bowls of fresh fruit available and they eat multiple servings a day- but sometimes they just want something sweet and the new Fiber One cheesecake bars are a treat my family can’t resist.

Fiber One Chocolate cheesecake bars

The first box opened was the chocolate Fiber One cheesecake bars and I can see why. I adore most everything chocolate myself, so I was happy to let the girls grab a bar and take it with us as we ran errands after school.

Treat yourself to Fiber One chocolate cheescake bars

They gave the sweet, chocolatey, chessecakey bar high praise and said it really was a sweet treat! I can feel good about serving Fiber One bars because they have 20% daily value of fiber with each small bar having 5 grams of fiber, 6 grams of fat and 150 calories.

When my husband got home from work and asked for a quick snack before dinner snack, I offered him a Fiber One Cheesecake bar and he chose the Key Lime pie bars and loved it!!

Reclaiming my lunchtime so I can feel better in 2016!

in , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Thursday, January 07, 2016
We are officially one week into the New Year and my eyes are starting to glaze over from all the “get healthy” advice that is so prevalent this time of year. I’ll be honest; I’m tired of being bombarded with messages that make me feel bad about myself because it highlights all I’m not doing, so this post is about making one small change that is completely doable!

While reviewing my plans from last year, I noticed an area in my life that I was completely neglecting- lunchtime.  I realized this is one area that I could improve upon easily, just by making a few small changes in my daily routine.

Serving up a healthy lunch with Progresso Light Soup

This year I’m being smart and reclaiming my lunch time. I will actually stop working, running errands or whatever else I’m doing at a set lunch time each day because I want to make lifestyle changes that will help me feel better in 2016! I’m happy to be part of #ProgressWithProgresso by stocking up on one of my all-time favorite lunches- Progresso Light soups.

Did you know that there are over 10 Light soup varieties with 100 calories or less per serving? I love their Savory Beef Vegetable with Barley! It is such a hearty soup that fills me and helps fill full and hydrated all afternoon.

Some my other favorite flavors include:

  • Progresso Soup Light Savory Beef Vegetable (shown in photos in this post)
  • Progresso Soup Light Chicken Noodle
  • Progresso Light Soup Beef Pot Roast
  • Progresso Soup Light New England Clam Chowder

Stock up and save on Progresso Light Soup

If you are a Publix shopper, you are in luck! They have some great savings going on like $1 off any 4 cans of all varieties of Progresso Light soup.  This is an online coupon that you can print at home and take with you by visiting here.

If it’s time for you to reclaim your lunchtime too, I invite you to join us as we make Progress with Progresso this year.  By taking time to eat a proper lunch, one that tastes good, fills us up, warms us up and hydrates too, we will be better equipped to handle our busy days. I’ll be serving up smiles and warmth to my family as well and making sure we eat more sit down lunches together on weekends as well.

Can you believe it’s the end of July already? Yikes! It is crazy hot and humid here in the south and back to school is looming large, so I really need to keep a healthy snack option for busy summer days on hand while I run errands with my girls. Thankfully, I’ve discovered the benefits of keeping a high protein snack bar in my purse at all times, so I was thrilled to work with Balance bare Bars and Walmart for today’s post.

My thanks to Balance bare Bars and Walmart for sponsoring today’s conversation. I did receive a gift card to thank me for my time, however all opinions and love of healthy snacks are my own.

My WAHM Plan: Balance bare bars

Finding the Balance bare Bars at Walmart was easy.  They are right over by the vitamin section, which I walk past often on most shopping trips.

When I was asked to join a virtual briefing with today's sponsor, ConAgra Foods via The Motherhood blogger group, I immediately said yes. While I do consider myself a savvy consumer, I know I have more to learn, especially when it comes to additives and preservatives in our food. While I will receive compensation for my time, all opinions in this post are based on information I learned during the briefing and are my own.

fish, fillets, good food, Cajun,

Providing our family with good for us food has become a lot more complicated the last few years.  Gone are the days when you just went to the produce section and picked up a head of lettuce. Now you have choices, sometimes too many choices.

It gets even more confusing when you leave the produce section and start buying staples.  The store isles are usually full of label readers, just like me trying our best to pick the healthiest food we can afford.  I always look for the sugar, calorie, protein numbers, but one of the important factors I may be overlooking is Antioxidants

Getting to know Antioxidant facts:

Antioxidants are our helpers. We have many antioxidants naturally produced in our body every day.

  • They prevent oxygen from damaging other molecules.
  • They can slow the aging process.
  • They boost your body’s natural defense /immune system, combat heart disease and other diseases.
  • They also protect our cells and function in foods to protect oils from damage that can lead to rancidity.

These are all very good things- we want Antioxidants to show up in our bodies every day and the best way to get them there is to eat them.

Antioxidants in Food:

Certain foods contain natural antioxidants like Vitamin E (Alpha-tocopheral).  Vitamin E is found in nuts, seeds and leafy green vegetables like my spinach salad here.

Spinach salad, green, leafy, veggies, good, food

Another natural antioxidant you’re sure to recognize if you are a food label reader like me is Ascorbic Acid, a.k.a. sodium ascorbate, a.k.a. Vitamin C.  Strawberries are loaded with Vitamin C

strawberries, natural, foods, Vitamin C

Sometimes those very clinical, almost chemical sounding names we find on our labels are really nothing to be worried about.

Man Made:

Learning about man made Antioxidants was the highlight of the virtual briefing with ConAgra Foods. The more we learned and asked as a collective group of bloggers, the more I realized I wanted to know more!

ConAgra Foods did a wonderful job explaining man made antioxidants are and why we may find them on our food labels and in our food.

You may have seen one these before on your labels:

BHT: A tasteless, colorless man made antioxidant is used to help maintain freshness in grain-based foods like crackers and cookies.

TBHQ: A tasteless, colorless man made antioxidant used commonly to keep vegetable oils and other packaged foods fresh.

I would love to share the whole Q & A section with you because I’m sure you have your own questions about man made antioxidants- but that would be a very large blog post to read so I’m going to share ConAgra Foods information below.

Natural v. Man Made Antioxidants and why they are used from ConAgra:

  • Man-made antioxidants, like BHT and TBHQ, are used because sometimes natural antioxidants throw off flavors of foods we know and love, or because a certain antioxidant might perform best with a certain food.
  •  One type is used over another based on performance – for example TBHQ is often used in fryer oils as it is more stable at higher temperatures than BHT, thus preserving these foods more effectively.
  • Natural and man-made antioxidants are sometimes used together in our favorite foods.
Food makers, like ConAgra Foods, choose certain preservative ingredients based on what they know will deliver the best flavor, while keeping your foods safe and fresh.

If you'd like to learn more about Food preservatives, check out 6 Facts about Preservatives video.

My Take Away:

My take away from the conversation was that whether natural or man-made, all antioxidants are safe for our food and our bodies when eating a balanced diet. Antioxidants help us enjoy the foods we love without having to compromise on taste or quality.

Yoplait Greek 100 Whips disclosure

I knew immediately what warm weather dessert I was going to make over; my Strawberry Trifle. My old recipe called for lots of sugar on the strawberries and lots of whipped cream too, but I’m lightening up for my health and my families and I’d love to share my easy recipe with you.

Not only did they lighten up one of our favorites desserts, the kids raved about them and asked for me to please keep the Whips on hand for snack time.
