Recently my dishwasher started having an odor. And the dishes, especially the plastic cups my daughters used daily, smelled so bad they refused to even try them. I spent a lot of time re-washing dishes and I had to break down my dishwasher for a good scrubbing.

I was baffled by the sudden stink because I lightly rinse my dishes and I don’t let them sit dirty over-night. That’s when I decided it must be the cleaner I was using. I admit it; I had bought a bargain brand at the grocery store to save a few bucks. We’ve all been there I’m sure.

So I was so happy to learn that I had been selected to try CASCADE ® PLATINUM PACS!

Platinum pacs

Cascade© Platinum Pacs deliver the most powerful clean available from Cascade while simultaneously helping to maintain the sparkling look of your clean dishwasher interior.

How it works:
Cascade© Platinum Pacs feature an advanced triple action recipe that is specially designed to leave dishware virtually spot-free and help prevent the build-up of hard-water film on dishwasher walls.*
*Use a dishwasher cleaner to remove existing build-up on wall interiors.

Why you need it:
Cascade© Platinum Pacs achieve a top-tier clean so powerful that they even help keep your
dishwasher machine sparkling and deliver a variety of dish care benefits:
• Powers away tough, 24 hour stuck-on food
• Eliminates the need to pre-wash dishes
• Helps maintain the look of new machines and helps prevent additional hard-water build-up
• Delivers exceptional dishware shine

My Review:

The very first thing I noticed was the scent of the Cascade© Platinum Pacs.  The pacs actually smell good. They call it Lemon Burst. To me they smelled like Lemon-Lime ice pops and clean all rolled into one.

I put on of the tri colored packs in my dishwasher and waited for the results. With Cascade being the # 1 recommended brand, I will say that my expectations were very high.

While dishwasher was running, I was cleaning up my kitchen and I loved the clean, fresh smell coming from the dishwasher.

After the cycle was done, I checked those plastic cups first. No stink at all! I could pour milk in a cup straight from the dishwasher again.  J
Another thing I noticed was how my silverware looked. So clean and shiny. Actually, all my dishes looked clean and shiny.

on my plate
Clean & Shiny!

After the dishwasher was emptied of all my oh, so clean dishes, I stuck my head in there for a smell check…. Delightfully clean smelling and  the interior was super shiny!

I’m sold! Cascade© Platinum Pacs did all they claimed they would and more. I highly recommend Cascade© Platinum Pacs!

Another great thing about Cascade© Platinum Pacs is their recent partnership with Gail Simmons.

Friday Nights are for Family Fun

in , , , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, June 07, 2013

Ever since our daughters were old enough to voice their opinions, Friday night has been reserved for family fun.  Whether it’s going out to eat at a favorite restaurant or staying home and having dinner and movie fun, we always take a vote.

My husband and I feel it is important to let our daughters help make these choices because honestly, there are so many things in their lives that they have zero control over. School is one of the major contributors to this. From grumpy teachers to redundant and what seems like, non-stop testing, our kids have very little say in their day.

But it’s June! It’s summer time here in Tennessee!

School is out and the living is easier here at our house, so tonight the girls get their say. Maybe they will want pizza and a movie or maybe we will go out to eat and then come home and catch fireflies or play flashlight tag. Maybe we'll go bowling. Or maybe we will all sit on the back deck and talk about our day while we listen to the frogs and toads sing.

Enjoying the food and company at Swetts in Nashville, TN.

The important thing is our togetherness and some fun!  Now I might be singing a different tune by the end of summer when we’ve all had a little too much togetherness and the litany of sibling complaints start.

Some of my favorites: “She’s looking at me!” “She’s touching me!”  “I’m bored!” And of course the question all parents should get a nickel for every time they answer it - “Are we there yet?”

I may even have to answer that question tonight if we decide as a family that we are heading out for dinner and other family type fun. But, I’m fresh and full of optimism for our Fun Family Friday nights!

It’s just June 7th after all.

What are your Friday night traditions?

He detests slavery, but opposes the war for the sake of the “union.” Abner is neither a Yankee nor a Rebel. He is a Copperhead. This is an extraordinary story of family and community. Shorts Shopping: The Saga continues

in , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, May 31, 2013

My daughters are 14 and 10 years of age. They are both smack dab in the middle of a fashion crisis not of their own making.  The crisis? Shorts. Yep. Shorts!

We have been shopping for cool, fun, in style jean shorts on and offline for days now.  We aren’t being picky. Well, not on purpose.  We all just want affordable, classy, not trashy “bootie” shortie shorts.

Repeat: I will not have shortie shorts in my house or on my girls!

You know the kind. The ones where the pockets hang out in front? The ones where the inseam is the size of my pinky nail? These shorts come complete with whiskers, strategically placed rips, some even have words! All meant to show as much leg and skin as possible. There are even shorter ones than those pictured above.  Older teens and 20 somethings might pull this off, but not my 14 year old.

The shorts for my 10 year old aren’t any better. She loves Justice brand clothing. Here is what I’m met with there. Not so bad in a picture or on a mannequin, but put them on a 10 yr. old playing at the park and you will soon see what I'm talking about.

What about us Moms and kids who want something in between shortie shorts and Bermudas that don’t cost 25 bucks a pair? Surely we can’t be the only ones out here searching for nice, ladylike shorts.

Am I the only Mom that still says ladylike? I hope not, but if the leftover shorts at my local stores are any indication, I am in the minority. Have the other Moms just given in and said,”Okay, buy the shortie shorts, if they are in your size! And please make it snappy, because this is our 5th store today!”?  That’s what we keep running into, no nice shorts in their sizes.

I’m not judging, I’m asking. Do you care how much skin your daughter is showing? It’s the last day of May and I’ve already inadvertently seen way too many not properly covered behinds to last me well into July! And don’t even get me started on the less than ladylike way in which some teens are forever picking and pulling trying to get those shorts out of uncomfortable spots! Trust me when I say, I'm not purposely trying to see these actions...but they are everywhere!

There I go, being all ladylike again.  And I’ll make no apologies for it. I’m a classy lady doing my best to raise classy daughters in a world bent on making them anything but.

We did find these perfect shorts at Macy's, but they are on sale for 27.99 a pair!

Sigh again.

I’ll take my daughters shopping again today because I know 2 local stores got in new shipments yesterday. I pray they will both find at least one pair of jean shorts that are cool, fun and in style.

I might even pay more than normal for them! Wish me good luck.

How do you deal with the less is more trend in teen and tween clothing?
