Showing posts with label snacks
We are eight weeks into the new school year and so far I’ve been able to offer up some pretty tasty lunchbox options for my teen daughters. I like to add something special to each lunch;  so I was pleased to try Nonni’s THINaddictives snacks free of charge for today’s post and giveaway. I loved these snacks as did my daughters! They were the perfect lunchbox treat!

My WAHM Plan: Nonni's THINaddictives #snacks, #giveaway

Nonni’sTHINaddictives come in three flavors- Cranberry Almond Thins, Pistachio Almond Thins and Cinnamon Raisin Thins.  Each has their own unique flavor, reminding my daughters and me of certain holidays throughout the year. For instance, the Cranberry Almond Thins make us all think of Christmas baking while the Pistachio Almond Thins bring to mind their delightful biscotti when I pair it with my mid- morning coffee.  These crunchy almond thin cookies are so tasty- even the pickiest eater is going to love them!

My WAHM Plan: Enjoy Nonni'sTHINaddictives in 3 flavors

Each box of Nonni’s THINaddictives has 6 servings of 3 almond cookies sealed in their own freshness packs which make them the perfect lunchbox add-on or after school snack. With these freshness packs, I find myself grabbing my daughter’s favorite flavors and just tossing them in my purse as I head out the door to pick them up from after school activities.

I can still remember it like it was yesterday- the diaper bag and my purse never left home without a fresh supply of Original Cheerios when my girls were little ones. Fast forward a decade and I’m still serving up Cheerios for snack time.  I don’t put them in my purse as often as I used too, but Cheerios are still a favorite part of snacking here. My kids cheer and thank me when greeted with this yummy after school Cheerios Trail Mix snack.

My WAHM Plan: Cheerios for after school snacking #giveaway

Cheerios have always been more than just breakfast food here at our house. From mid- morning snacks, to night time noshing, Cheerios add just the right amount of crunch without being overly sweet or salty. We prefer Original and lightly Frosted Cheerios for our snacking, but Cheerios comes in more yummy flavors like:
  • Honey Nut
  • Banana Nut
  • Multi-Grain
  • Multi-Grain Peanut Butter
  • Apple Cinnamon

My daughters almost picked Banana nut flavor on out last trip to Publix because Cheerios are on sale right now as BOGO’s. Who doesn’t love a good sale on a household staple like Cheerios? The sale runs August 13 through September 2, so you have lots of time to stock up like we did. Once I told them I’d make my Cheerios Trail Mix, in the Frosted and Original boxes went in the cart.

Cheerios Trail Mix Recipe:
Makes 3 cups.

Cheerios Trail Mix recipe on MyWAHMPlan.com

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Original Cheerios
  • 1 cup Frosted Cheerios
  • 1 cup Mountain trail mix. (Mine has raisins, peanuts, almonds, cashews and chocolate). Feel free to raid your pantry for trail mix items and add your kid’s favorites.
  • 1 gallon zipper close baggie

Directions:

In zipper baggie, pour in Cheerios then Mountain Trail mix, or one cup of your own ingredients like raisins and nuts. Close bag and gently mix all ingredients. Pour into a medium sized serving bowl and set on the table for after school munching!
The great thing about this trail mix snack as it can double as a breakfast cereal or to go breakfast in a bag if you are running late!

Looks good doesn’t it? It really is so quick and easy to whip this up and have it waiting for your kids after school.

Does your family love Cheerios too? I invite you to head on over to Cheerios.com for more tasty recipes and to learn more about the Cheerios products. Be sure to download or print out your BOGO coupons so you can stock up while shopping at Publix too.

If you’ve been reading my blog for long, you must know how much I love working with Publix on their campaigns, especially food ones because they want to help us save on brands we know and trust, like Cheerios. I appreciate both companies as my sponsor of today’s post and this giveaway!

Tropical Yogurt Parfaits recipe #sweetsummersnack #ad

in , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Saturday, August 01, 2015
The dog days of summer are upon us and nothing beats a cool sweet treat to beat the summer heat.  I was happy to learn that one of our all-time favorite snacks- Yoplait Original Yogurts now has 25% less sugar, so I whipped up these Tropical Yogurt Parfaits for a sweet summer snack and wanted to share the recipe with you.

I try to keep Yoplait yogurts on hand for my family to eat for breakfasts or snacks. We all love their taste and I love that Yoplait doesn’t use high-fructose corn syrup, or milk from cows treated with rBST; and now that Yoplait’s have 25% less sugar, I feel even better about letting them eat a yogurt when they want. You can go to Yoplait and learn more about the flavors available, see recipes and read the nutrition facts.

My WAHM Plan : #Recipe with French Vanilla Yoplait Yogurt

I was excited to try the new Yoplait Original French Vanilla to see if there was any taste difference. I’m happy to share that I couldn’t tell the difference at all! That’s due to the tireless work Yoplait put in to this new formula.

They tried over a hundred recipe variations before getting a yogurt that had less sugar without sacrificing any of the taste. Speaking of recipes, here is a super simple, 3 ingredient recipe for Tropical Yogurt Parfaits.

My WAHM Plan: 3 ingredient Tropical Yogurt Parfaits

I bought all my ingredients at Publix. If you shop at Publix too, be sure to visit readysetsave.com first where you can print out a coupon, or upload one right to your loyalty card.

Tropical Yogurt Parfaits Recipe:

Ingredients: (for 2 servings):
  • 2 Yoplait Original 25% less sugar French Vanilla Yogurts
  • 1 cup Pineapple tidbits in fruit juice
  • 4 Tablespoons Sweetened Coconut shreds
Tropical Yogurt Parfaits recipe on MyWAHMPlan.com

Directions:
  • Gather ingredients. For quicker assembly of Parfaits, open yogurts, pour Pineapple in serving bowl and open coconut. I used 2 small mason jars for serving my parfaits, but you can use small juice glasses too.
  • In jar, place a large tablespoon of Pineapple with as little juice as possible in bottom of jar.
  • Next, add about half of the French Vanilla Yogurt container.
  • Add a tablespoon of Coconut if desired.
  • Repeat all steps until jars are filled, topping with a small amount of coconut.

Chill before serving and enjoy this cool #sweetsummersnack

Can you believe it’s the end of July already? Yikes! It is crazy hot and humid here in the south and back to school is looming large, so I really need to keep a healthy snack option for busy summer days on hand while I run errands with my girls. Thankfully, I’ve discovered the benefits of keeping a high protein snack bar in my purse at all times, so I was thrilled to work with Balance bare Bars and Walmart for today’s post.

My thanks to Balance bare Bars and Walmart for sponsoring today’s conversation. I did receive a gift card to thank me for my time, however all opinions and love of healthy snacks are my own.

My WAHM Plan: Balance bare bars

Finding the Balance bare Bars at Walmart was easy.  They are right over by the vitamin section, which I walk past often on most shopping trips.

Another work week is coming to a close and a new weekend is ready to begin. Can we all just pause for a minute to praise the weekend? Whether you are packing up the family car and heading out on a road trip, or heading to the mall for back to school shopping, there’s one thing you have to pack to fuel up for your weekend- a healthy, yet simple to eat snack.

I’m all about portable snacks in my purse! Nine times out of ten my family and friends can rely on my “purse of plenty” to hold at least one snack option, usually a bar of some sort. That’s why I was really jazzed to give Nature Valley’s new Simple Nut bars a try!

My WAHM Plan: Nature Valley simple nut bars

Just seeing the box on the Publix shelf made my mouth water! The box reads “Nuts and seeds from nature. It’s that simple (and delicious).  And you know what? Nature Valley is spot on with these bars! We couldn’t wait to try the Almond Cashew Sea Salt bars and we were not disappointed one bit! I LOVED the light saltiness of the cashews, almonds, sunflower and pumpkin seeds with just the right amount of honey.

My WAHM Plan: #simplesnacking outside

When my youngest daughter couldn’t finish her bar and asked me if I’d like it, I gladly accepted it without one bit of guilt!  The only problem I had was a question of manners- do I lick the yummy goodness left off the wrapper or not? In the end, I didn’t, but I would not blame one person who did lick it!

My WAHM Plan: Grab a Nature Valley Simple nut bar and go!

Nature Valley Simple nut bars come in two new flavors, Almond Cashew Sea Salt and Roasted Peanut Honey Original. You can learn more about these bars, including the nutrition facts by visiting Nature Valley Simple Nut Bars.  For a limited time, you can save 75 cents off by downloading a coupon from Publix at  readyplansave.com/savings!

No matter what this weekend has on tap for you, you need to fuel up and I can’t think of a better way to help you with this endeavor than by giving you money! Thanks to the generosity of Nature Valley and Publix, one lucky reader will receive a $15.00 PayPal transfer from me.  Entering is easy using the form below.

We are not a gluten free family, but several of my daughters friends who visit our home have dietary restrictions, so when I was asked to review the NoGii line of protein bars, why protein powder and The G Free Diet book by Elisabeth Hasselbeck for free as part of the MomsMeet blogger group, I happily agreed. My opinions are my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of May Media Group LLC or the manufacturer of this product.

My WAHM Plan tries gluten free products

I received a box full of goodies, much to the delight of my daughters, who live to try new protein bars. Created by Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Gluten-Free Mom, Emmy Award-Winning Talk Show Host, and New York Times Best-Selling Author of “The G-Free Diet” and “Deliciously G-Free.

About NoGii Products:

NoGii is a line of certified gluten-free protein bars, protein powders, and paleo bars. Made from high quality and sustainably sourced premium ingredients, all products have an ideal balance of protein, fat, and carbohydrates and do not contain high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, or hydrogenated oils.

NoGii offers a variety of choices to provide you and your family with good, clean, certified gluten-free, and nutritional food choices that fit your active lifestyle.

We received boxes of high protein bars in:

  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Caramel Crisp- 30 g protein, 390 calories
  • Peanut butter & Chocolate- 20 g protein, 230 calories
  • Cocoa & Brownie- 20 g protein, 220 calories
  • Chocolate & Mint- 17 g protein, 230 calories
  • Chocolate Coconut- 17 g protein 240 calories

My Thoughts:

Even though my whole family enjoyed these high protein bars, and found them quite tasty and satisfying, I had to remind them that they each packed a pretty big calorie load and must be factored into our daily healthy living goals.

Personally, I found the paleo bars a much better choice for my goals and dietary needs. All bars are free of dairy, soy, high fructose/corn syrup, gluten, trans fat and peanuts making them a perfect on the go snack for our busy schedules.

My WAHM Plan tried Paleo bars

My favorite Paleo bar is Nuts and Berries, which has 4 grams of protein and just 180 calories. My daughters love the Paleo Nuts about Nuts bars, which have 5 grams of protein and 200 calories. Unfortunately none of us liked the flavor of the Nuts about Tropical fruit bars, which have 4 grams of protein and 190 calories. There was a hint of soapiness to the bar that we all found off putting.

The Vanilla Bean whey and quinoa protein powder made a delicious, satisfying after work out drink, with none of the bloating I felt using soy based products, so I’m thrilled with this product as well.

About the G Free Diet Book:

"For years, Elisabeth Hasselbeck couldn't figure out what was making her sick.  She asked doctors and consulted nutritionists, but no one seemed to have the answers. It wasn't until spending time in the Australian outback, living off the land, on the grueling TV Survivor show, that, ironically, her symptoms vanished.Returning home, she pinpointed the food that had been making her sick- gluten, the binding element in wheat."

My Thoughts:

Elisabeth starts chapter one My G-Free journey with this “I learned about gluten the hard way. I wrote this book so you don’t have to.” While I don’t subscribe to some of Elisabeth’s opinions on living gluten free whether you need to or not, I found The G free Diet book to be informative and helpful in navigating the gluten free lifestyle.  I now know to shop for and cook for company who come to our home.

If you are interested in learning more about Elisabeth’s journey from pain to loving what she eats, please visit nogii.com to learn more about her books and product line, or follow them Twitter, Instagram and Facebook where you can enter to win a trip to New York City, where you’ll meet and have lunch with Elisabeth Hasselbeck! With a busy family of four, we seem to run out of certain pantry staples often. Anybody with a teen or a tween in their home know that pantry staples include snacks! These kids are hungry often because of their fast metabolisms. Add a few friends over on weekend or after school and a pantry raid is inevitable.
