It's that time of year again in middle Tennessee! The kids have been back in school about a month now, we've all got our normal routines established and the leaves are just starting to fall.

So what time is it?

Tennessee State Fair time!  This has been a fun family event for us for years now and it just gets better every year!

Did you know the Tennessee State Fair has been held every year (with the exception of the 4 year span during World War II) since 1906! The fair has entertained Tennessee families for more than 100 years. It attracts more than 230,000 visitors annually.

Ferris Wheel at the TN. State Fair

There are some big things going on this year including the Tennessee Two-Crust Apple Pie Contest, Hendrick's Racing Pigs, tons of livestock events, live music daily, and of course the rides and games! This is the big draw for my girls!

Games at the TN. State Fair

For the hubby and I,  it just wouldn't be a fair without all that not so good for you fair food!
The Fair is boasting their world famous fried Goo-Goo cluster, a local delicacy. You MUST try it! Of course they will have all your all time faves... funnel cakes, cotton candy, corn dogs and every other yummy thing you can think of. I love the way the aromas meld together, in the air, at the fair... can't you just smell it now?

My family is so excited to go to the fair. We plan to make an entire day of it.
Seeing all the attractions, tasting all the food and playing a few games. The Tennessee State Fair is a fun, family friendly event that has a little something for everyone.

Your kids are going to love Flipeez hats

in , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, September 06, 2013
I received this product free of charge to facilitate my review. No other compensation was given and all opinions are my own.

With crisp fall weather fast approaching, I’m excited to share this cute hat with you. This is the first interactive hat I’ve ever seen and I must say, it’s so cute I would consider wearing it to the park.

Have you heard of Flipeez? I see their commercials on TV alot when my daughter is watching her favorite Disney show. If you don't know about Flipeez yet, read on.

About Flipeez:

The Super fun action hats that come alive right before your eyes! Brought to you by the makers of Stompeez.

My Review:

Aren't these the cutest hats? It was so hard for me to choose one for my daughter to try, but I finally decided on Twitchy the Kitty.

See those cute pink plushies? You squeeze one and you have an interactive hat!

Tail up!

Some hats have arms and ears that flap too.  These hats are sure to please any kid (or kid at heart) on your gift giving list. They are well made knit on the outside and super soft flannel lining on the inside. One size really should fit all too because these hats will stretch.

You can learn more about Flipeez by visiting their website HERE or watch this video.

I love this hat and so does my daughter. She's having tons of fun making the tail stand up and would probably wear it to school if the weather was cool enough. Once she breaks out her boots, watch out world. She will be sporting her Flipeez with style! She wants us to get one for her bestie for Christmas and at $19.99, I think I will.

As always, I hope you found my review helpful.

Friday Nights are for Family Fun

in , , , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, June 07, 2013

Ever since our daughters were old enough to voice their opinions, Friday night has been reserved for family fun.  Whether it’s going out to eat at a favorite restaurant or staying home and having dinner and movie fun, we always take a vote.

My husband and I feel it is important to let our daughters help make these choices because honestly, there are so many things in their lives that they have zero control over. School is one of the major contributors to this. From grumpy teachers to redundant and what seems like, non-stop testing, our kids have very little say in their day.

But it’s June! It’s summer time here in Tennessee!

fun

School is out and the living is easier here at our house, so tonight the girls get their say. Maybe they will want pizza and a movie or maybe we will go out to eat and then come home and catch fireflies or play flashlight tag. Maybe we'll go bowling. Or maybe we will all sit on the back deck and talk about our day while we listen to the frogs and toads sing.

Enjoying the food and company at Swetts in Nashville, TN.

The important thing is our togetherness and some fun!  Now I might be singing a different tune by the end of summer when we’ve all had a little too much togetherness and the litany of sibling complaints start.

Some of my favorites: “She’s looking at me!” “She’s touching me!”  “I’m bored!” And of course the question all parents should get a nickel for every time they answer it - “Are we there yet?”

I may even have to answer that question tonight if we decide as a family that we are heading out for dinner and other family type fun. But, I’m fresh and full of optimism for our Fun Family Friday nights!

It’s just June 7th after all.

What are your Friday night traditions?

Family Movie Night Fun

in , , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Monday, March 11, 2013

We are big fans of a Friday night movie and a pizza. Our kids' movie choices are usually animated, so we were delighted when we got the opportunity to watch a DVD sampler set of movies from DreamWorks.

They sent us an awesome movie night pack which contained:

Set of 4 DreamWorks Animation DVD samplers
"The Croods: Grub's Survival Guide" book
"The Croods: Movie Novelization" book
Film Reel tin filled with movie theater treats

movie night fun pack

We all know how much we've grown to love our favorite characters
from the DreamWorks Animation films like Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, and more.

For a special time (until March 15th or while supplies last), Big G and DreamWorks Animation have teamed up to create four collectible DVD samplers containing content from Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar, just for you!
Each DVD contains fun episodes, behind the scenes footage and bonus material from your favorite DreamWorks Animation movies.

Hurry, and collect all four! Plus, look for an exclusive sneak peek at "The Croods", coming to theaters March 22, 2013.

You can only receive these four collectible DVD samplers by purchasing specially marked boxes of your favorite Big G cereal, seen below.

We enjoyed our snacks and the DVD samplers. The favorite among the girls was, of course, the sneak peek of "The Croods".

The Croods had us laughing!

The girls really want to see the movie now after seeing the sneak peek and reading the books, so we are adding a trip to see "The Croods" as one of our spring break treats.

I hope you will be able to get your own set for a fun family movie night at your house. I am lucky enough to be able to share this gift pack with my niece and nephews, who live out of state. I think they will have as much fun as we did watching these DVDs and enjoying the treats. And, it might even get me some cool Auntie Cred!

What is your favorite DreamWorks movie? I’m still rather fond of How to Train Your Dragon.

We were first introduced to Colortime last November and I shared them as one of our Winter break boredom busters.

As a thank you for sharing their information, Colortime sent me a pillowcase and marker set to review.

Ms. M. was all over it upon arrival.

She liked how smoothly the markers worked on the pillowcase and that it didn’t take a lot of time to color in a spot.  Since most sleep overs and play dates are time sensitive, that is a big plus for this Mom.

We invite you to discover your inner crafty person with Colortime! They have everything to make you look like super Mom at your kid’s next sleep over, birthday party, play date, Girl Scout troop meeting and rainy day boredom buster. Plus, these crafts are easy on the wallet with most items priced at $5.95 or under.

Right now you can save 15% off any project by using the code: 15USG or by clicking HERE.

I hope you found this review helpful.

How do you get crafty with your kids? I'd love to hear about your projects.

Disclosure: I received the pillow case and marker set to review for Colortime as part of the US Family Guide Mom Bloggers. All opinions are my own.

friends fun game

Don't let the kiddies have all the fun this holiday season! Have some fun of your own and find out what your friends are really thinking with Say Anything!

Whether you are having company come stay for the holidays or just having a get together Say Anything from North Star Games is a great game to play to have some entertainment!
This game will also help you get to know each other a lot better, so why not try it at your next Mom's Night In and invite a new Mom or two and share the fun?

Playing this game is super easy:

One person is the "Selector" each round. The Selector reads a question and everyone writes an answer. All answers must be different so, whoever displays first has that answer....you will just have to think of something else if you did not display your answer fast enough.

Then, the Selector will use the Select-O-Matic 5000, that would be the will looking thing, to pick which answer he/she agrees with the most. You don't let anyone see what you picked.

Next, everyone else uses their two tokens to put them on the answer(s) they think the Selector will pick. You don't have to put your tokens on your own answer and you can put them together or divide them.

Turn over the Select-O-Matic 5000! The Selector gets 1 point for each token placed on the answer she/he selected, up to a max of three. The other players get 1 point for each token they placed on the answer that was selected and the player who wrote the answer that was selected gets 1 bonus point.
Pass the Question Cards and the Select-O-Matic to the left and start the next round.

Gutzy Gear Party Fun

in , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Several weeks ago I got an email from Mom Select asking me if I would be interested in hosting a Gutzy Gear party.  A what I wondered aloud. Enter my tween daughter Ms. M, who immediately said,” say yes please! I’ve wanted to show you the commercial for those”.  Thankfully, I was chosen.

Gutzy Gear

Don’t have a tween talking in your ear about Gutzy Gear? From their website:
Gutzy Gear is a great, new way to express yourself by customizing your back back, sports duffel, messenger bag, and more! Gutzies are cool looking removable patches. Gutzies stick to a Gutzy strap cover that you put wherever you want to go Gutzy! With 56 Gutzies in a series and new Gutzies constantly being introduced, you can collect and trade a world of Gutzies.
Fast forward to Saturday afternoon.  What do you get when you have a group of tween girls, games, snacks and Gutzy Gear?
A fabulously fun afternoon filled with lots of giggles and bonding. It’s amazing what you can learn about your kids and their friends when you sit back in another room and let them be creative.  The girls loved drawing versions of Gutzy Gear patches. Even though we could have played Gutzy Bingo, or a matching game, the drawing was a hit.
I got to be the “judge” and pick my favorite drawings to see who got to draw their Gutzy patches from the grab bag first. That was a really fun part for me because I loved seeing how creative and talented they were!
After the drawing was done, the girls ripped into the patches but only after a few trades had been made.  They loved how soft the straps were and all of them commented on helpful they were going to be with their heavy backpacks. If you’ve ever hefted your 4th graders backpack, you know their shoulders could use the T.L.C.

Afterwards I served a light snack and much to the girls surprise 2 hours had past and it was time for them to pack up.
Here is Ms. M's backpack:

*2/19/13: I have removed the pictures associated with this post due to a large number of visits from websites in foreign countries.*
We had a blast at our Gutzy Gear party and would highly recommend them as a fun, creative activity for a sleep-over, birthday party, or play date. And, Moms- Gutzy Gear isn’t just for girls! They have the boys covered too.
Head on over to Gutzy Gear and check out their current buy 1 get one get 1 free deal. Also, between now and September 7th, your kids can win 1 of 100 Toys ‘R Us gift cards, worth more than $5000 by showing us how you “go gutzy”. Visit their Facebook page HERE for more details.

Thank you to Mom Select and Gutzy Gear for sending me a home party box to host this party. I was not compensated. All opinions are my own.
