When I first got the email from Mom Central calling for hosts of a Disney Celebration in our home, I was excited because Disney characters hold a special place in my heart and most especially my daughters. We LOVE Disney Princesses, every one of them.

From Jasmine, Belle, Aurora, Ariel to Cinderella and Merida they each possess wonderful strength and spirit, hope, courage and a healthy dose of humor. All the wonderful traits we try to instill in my daughters.

So quite naturally, our party theme was Princesses. Since our “princesses” fall into the tween and teen age groups, I got creative and decided the best way to let then show their fun side would be to let them be grown up versions of their favorite princess.

We played with Makeup and hairstyles. We did a different kind of face painting by having the girls color in face print outs that makeup artists use. This was a huge hit!

We listened to “Let it Go” from Frozen so many times, even I know most all the words now.

We had fun with all the cool goody bag treats Disney sent us that came in a very unique package- a cool American Tourist Luggage piece that will surely come in handy on our next family trip.

The clear favorite goodie was this classic love poster.

We had special princess Hot Chocolate, complete with Cinnamon sprinkles.

And lots of tasty sweets.

Throughout the afternoon, lots of laughter and smiles and sharing happened, which was quite magical indeed.

Free up your hands with a tablet stand

I love office supplies and trying out new ones but I never saw a need for a tablet stand because I don’t use a tablet often. However, my daughters use their tablets all the time, so when Shoplet.com asked if I wanted to try a tablet stand free of charge, I said sure. I’m very glad I did.

One of the things I noticed right away was how small the tablet stand was. It folds down for easy storage which is a huge plus for me. Whether I keep it in my office, or one of the girls takes it to their room, it will fit in a drawer or cubby easily.

Ground Hogs Day- Southern Style

Yesterday was all about Family and Football around here and with the exception on answering a phone call or two; I didn’t watch or read any media until the puppy bowl started.

In the back of my mind I was wondering if Punxsutawney Phil had saw his shadow foretelling of another 6 weeks of winter. If you are like us and I’m betting you are- we are done with winter and need a sign, any sign that spring is on its way.

So once I got the kids on the bus to school- 2 hours late mind you because of the forecasted sleet and snow we didn’t get, I decided to go on my fact finding mission.

Sure enough, according to the Washington post, that silly northerner Phil had in fact saw his shadow yesterday. But, he was wrong last year remember? He said we would get spring early last year. Instead of leaving as soon as I read spring was another 6 weeks a way according to Phil, I decided to keep reading the whole article and there it was at the bottom- a beacon of hope for this southern lady.

Seems there is a southern groundhog based out of Atlanta; General Beau Lee is his name and he has been predicting the comings and goings of spring for the Southeast for 33 years.

How in the world did I not know about Beau?

A quick click of my mouse and Hey! Beau says spring will come early for our region! And Birmingham Bill, (based out of Birmingham Alabama naturally) agrees with Beau.

I like these southern groundhogs.

This made me realize maybe you don’t know about your own regional groundhog either and you’d like too. After all, we don’t plant our gardens full of plants out of our growing and hardiness zones, so why should we listen to a groundhog out of our region?

I know this whole predicting of weather is a hard thing to do, so I'll take any signs of hope at this point. It's been such a cold, long winter, we are all ready for spring aren't we?

I’m looking for signs of spring everywhere. And it may be just wishful thinking, but I swear I see the hint of change on the branches of our trees and a few sprigs of green wild onions coming up in the lawn.

Keeping track of important dates with House of Dolittle

Happy Friday! Brrr… another cold snap has taken over and I for one am so ready for temps above 40. While I’m wishing for spring along with most everybody I know at this point, I’m thankful for January and all the “new” stuff it brings.

Like calendars and planners.

I love calendars. No, scratch that, I love functional calendars. Not those little purse thingies with their little bitty squares that I need two of per activity. Nope I like extra room for my leftie scrawl. So when Shoplet.com asked me if I’d like to review a desk calendar and weekly business planner for House of Dolittle, I happily agreed. This desk top calendar reminds me of my many years (pre-kids) working outside the home in various secretarial and administrative positions. I had to have one on my desk. I wrote on it constantly. Not just important dates and key points of conversations, but reminders of what I needed to do and all the audibles tossed at me during the day from fellow office employees.

For at home use, this beauty resides on our family desktop. We all sit there and work and get frustrated when there is no paper to write on (usually because somebody carted off the notepad placed there). The weekly planner has lots of room for me to write on each day, an at a glance week view that I use often and it even offers an expense report ledger on the bottom of each page making it so much easier for me to keep track of the his, mine, ours business spending we do. It will also serve as a reminder of expenditures we need to remember come tax time. Ugh, taxes! Another thing to "like" about January! *wink*
