I can’t believe it's the middle of June already! This spring is flying by. My husband and I got to enjoy another weekend movie date, this time seeing his highly anticipated choice, The Mandalorian and Grogu, since the last time we saw mine. The Devil Wears Prada 2. Reason for my no-spoiler review of the latest Star Wars film.

My Thoughts:

I’ll start by saying I have conflicting feelings and thoughts on this film and the whole Mandalorian and Grogu because my husband and I very much enjoyed all three seasons of the Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, so we had previous knowledge of  Din Djarin and Grogu going into seeing this film.

On the one hand, The Mandalorian and Grogu is a fun, fast-paced movie that anyone, regardless of their knowledge of Star Wars and The Mandalorian, would probably enjoy watching. There’s humor, drama and enough cool sci-fi action to keep us entertained, thanks in large part ot a miscalculation by the Mandalorian that puts everyone at risk.

On the other hand, my husband and I both felt the storyline lacked depth and substance. We didn’t walk away from it discussing our key takeaway moments or how we were excited to learn about a certain character. And there certainly wasn’t a true villain for us to dislike. Sure, there were the nasty Hutts, but it wasn’t enough in our estimation. Speaking of Hutts, it was nice to see that Rotta the Hutt has a good heart. We enjoyed that storyline.

Small is Mighty Wins: Grogu and The Anzelians

We both really enjoyed seeing Grogu work nicely with the Anzelians to save the day. If you don't know, the Anzelians are little aliens known in the  Star Wars universe for their amazing technical and engineering skills in working on droids and ships. In the vast Star Wars universe, its nice to see small can be mighty too.

The Takeaway:

Grogu

The Mandalorian and Grogu is a fun film with enough action to keep you entertained. It made for a fun date for us. It’s still in theaters nationwide. To check your local show times, head on over to Fandango

For true Star Wars and/or Mandalorian fans, you may see this as a bridge or filler movie, since the storyline feels so light. Even with Sigorney Weaver as a commanding Colonal Ward, we wanted, needed, more.

We hope that this lack of depth is because there is another movie in the works, or at the very least, a new season four of The Mandalorian on Disney +.
