Since I work at home, most of my lunches are eaten solo and mainly consist of either leftovers, or something quick and simple like yogurt and granola and a piece of fruit. However, yesterday my daughter and I decided to treat ourselves to a hearty lunch by making sourdough bacon pepper jack and cheddar cheese panini’s served with a warm bowl of tomato soup and I must say, the food and her company were a delightful change of pace! Another great thing about this lunch? We had tasty sourdough bread from the freezer to table in under 30 minutes.

For the Love of Bread:
There’s just something so fundamentally good about the smell and
taste of fresh baked bread. I enjoy baking simple breads, but I never could get
my sourdough starter right, so I normally buy store bought sourdough. To be
honest, some sourdough breads on the market aren’t very good! Because of that,
I was delighted to learn about Wildgrain and their handmade sourdough breads
and other products.
About Wildgrain:
Founded by Johanna and Ismail, and joined by her small team in
Boston MA., Wildgrain is a company on a mission to replace supermarket breads
and pantry staples. Small-batch bakers and pasta makers across the country partner
with Wildgrain to provide nutritious artisanal breads, pastas, and pastries in
a monthly themed subscription box that’s too delicious to resist. Wildgrain has
the first bake from frozen box for sourdough breads, artisanal pastries, and
fresh pasta.
Wildgrain has the first bake from frozen box for sourdough breads,
artisanal pastries, and fresh pasta. I’ve only tried one loaf of their bread
and I’m already happy with the box I received. I wanted to do an un-boxing, but
time was an issue since my box was delivered while I wasn’t home. All Wildgrain boxes come packaged with dry ice thankfully. However, a quick check of delivery time alerted
me to the need to get my products in the freezer as soon as possible, so I’ll
be sharing blog posts/social shares of each product as I make them. For your reference, here’s a look at one of
their boxes, which are $89.00 each.

Baking their sourdough is so simple. Just preheat your oven, take
the sourdough loaf from the freezer, un-wrap it, place it directly on center
rack in oven and bake for 25 minutes and you’ll have tasty sourdough bread warm
from the oven. It’s actually pretty amazing that Wildgrain has perfected a way
to have tasty Sourdough bread from freezer to table in 30 minutes!
The Taste Taste:
I found their sourdough to be a dense, flavorful loaf making it a perfect bread for our sourdough bacon pepper jack and cheddar cheese panini’s! It paired perfectly with our tomato soup that we topped with grated parmesan cheese. This is a simple yet satisfying lunch. Especially on chilly January days.
Why I love Sourdough Bread and why you might want to make the switch as well:
Besides it’s amazing flavor, crust and chew, sourdough bread is
also good for you. Here’s how:
- Sourdough is easier on the belly
- Rich in nutrients and antioxidants
- Lower blood sugar spikes
- Natural long shelf life
While I’m not a professional dietician, I can tell you that I made
the switch to eating mainly sourdough bread last year and really do feel I’ve
improved my gut health. You can read more about the benefits of sourdough bread
at Wildgrain’s website here.
The Takeaway:
I’m so glad I was introduced to Wildgrain. I’m going to have lots
of fun making good, wholesome meals and sharing them here with you. It makes me
feel good to know that Wildgrain works with top bakers and pasta makers in the
United States, which keeps more small businesses open and thriving.
