On a hot summer day, I received an unexpected package that contained a book and a tee-shirt that changed my way of looking at situations for the better. You see, the fates smiled upon me and I had received a complimentary hardbound copy of WONDER- a New York Times bestseller book by R.J. Palacio and the softest t-shirt on behalf of Lionsgate. My special thanks to them for that package and the surprise Halloween goodies as well. If you haven’t met and been moved by Auggie Pullman yet, read on to learn about the book and the movie WONDER! All opinions expressed are 100% my own.

About WONDER the book:

The Storyline:

"August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face.WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance."

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed every moment I spent with Auggie and his family while reading WONDER. From the moment Auggie started telling us why he hadn’t gone to school before, to how his sister deals with all Auggie’s medical conditions and the amount of time the parents spent with him; I was hooked. This is an excellent story of family and friendships and life. It may have been written for tweens, but, honestly, I think we could use the good vibes jumping off the pages of WONDER. It will make you laugh, and think and maybe even cry. I highly recommend it and was thrilled to learn the book was being made into a movie opening next month!

As his family, his classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie’s extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out."
