Film Synopsis:
“If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?” This rhetorical question, posed by Steven Spielberg at the beginning of Disclosure Day, clues us in for the story about to unfold.

From the crazy and loud opening scenes where we first see Dr. Daniel Kellner (Josh O’Connor) at a wrestling match to the restlessness of local TV meteorologist Margaret Fairchild (Emily Blunt), I was intrigued and invested. I was exactly where Steen Speilberg wants his audiences. He truly is a master at opening scenes.
My husband and I were truly enjoying the fast-paced film until midway, where we started losing the full scope of it. While the acting remained superlative, the writing got messy. We found ourselves guessing at the what and why’s of several back-to-back scenes.
Still, we were intrigued! I was the first to guess why the lead characters, Margaret and Daniel, were pulled together and why the “bad guys” at Wardex Corporation, led by Noah Scanlon (Colin Firth), are trying desperately to stop them.

The Takeaway:
Disclosure Day is a sci-fi film, full of symbolism, some alien tech, and hard-to-watch past misdeeds. It's also about human disconnectedness and our desire to be right. How we don’t listen to hear another’s point of view; we listen to reply and, of course, to fight and assert our superiority. Considering today’s climate, I found this sentiment to be timely.
In Disclosure Day, the world is at war, and the end doesn’t look promising, but there are still glimmers of hope and true empathy for all if we could all just come together, stop fighting, and listen.
