In the heart-pounding military thriller Valiant One, a routine mission spirals into a fight for survival when a US Army helicopter crashes deep within North Korean territory.

With their communications equipment destroyed, Captain Edward Brockman (Chase Stokes) and Specialist Selby (Lana Condor) must lead the team through hostile terrain, cut off from US military support as they attempt a daring escape across the treacherous Demilitarized Zone.

My Thoughts: No Spoiler Review:

When I first read the film synopsis, I thought my husband should enjoy this one, which he did, and honestly, so did I largely thanks to the connection between the task force members led by Captain Brockman. You can tell he cares about the mission and the troops. That is, after they get underway. When we first meet the captain, he’s ambivalent.

But Specialist Selby, who forms a bond with a child in the film, shines in this gritty military film. I do feel that actress Lana Condor made this film much better than it would have been without her. Valiant One is peppered with violence throughout, so please keep the R rating in mind if you plan on seeing it.

Heroes Aren’t Born, They Are Made!

The overall mood of this film is dark, both literally and figuratively. There were some scenes that a little more light would have been greatly appreciated. While some scenes are intense, the character's lack of depth leads to a slow plot in some parts of the film. I was emotionally invested and hoped for the best possible outcome - that all, or at least some of the task force members make it out and back home alive.

If you like military films, be sure to go see Valiant One in theaters starting Friday, January 31, 2025.  Be sure to check out my other film reviews and suggestions on the Entertainment tab.
