My Thoughts: Everyone Deserves to Fly!
Wow! Wow! Wow! I was a little late to see Wicked in theaters, and even though I tried not to listen to the reviews of others before seeing it myself, that was impossible. Reviewers were everywhere and with very good reason. It is a breathtaking spectacle to behold.
The story and friendship between Elphaba and Glinda are at the heart of this sweeping story, though it is a true musical, which brought out true Wicked and theater fans in droves. I've never seen the original Broadway adaptation, so I honestly didn't know what to expect going in other than it would be immersive, and some in the crowd may choose to sing along to the more "popular" numbers, even if you weren't attending a sing-along show.
I can see why this film is held in such high regard. It's a heartwarming, sometimes funny musical that spins a magical story. In the acting, my favorites were Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard of Oz and Michelle Yough s Madame Morrible. The singing was flawless of course with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. The sets complete with real poppies were breathtaking! Wicked does draw you in and leave you wanting more.
There was so much to take in and enjoy, I really want to see part one again before part two comes out next year.
