I won’t be like the countless TV and radio personalities by exclaiming “I can’t believe it’s summer!”, because, in all honesty, I’ve been counting down the days so I could share this helpful summer content with you. This year, I’m starting my deep cleaning and summer refreshing in our master bedroom. I’ve partnered with a great brand called Beddy’s. They inspired this post on how to refresh your bedroom for soothing summer slumber.

Beddy’s was founded in 2014 by Betsy Mikesell, who had been toying with an idea to help her twins make their beds for months, and co-founder Angie White who thought Betsy’s idea was a sound business idea and agreed to go in business with her. Fast forward to 2023 and these two are going strong and Beddy’s has over 53 items to shop from.

I found shopping on their site easy and fun. There are many great bedding choices in their summer collection that I’m seriously considering a new set for our guest room. For now, I’m delighted with my set, the Blair. I chose the all-cotton option since it’s summer and my husband is a hot sleeper. Once I received the bedding, I realized that I wanted to give our master bedroom a deep clean, including cleaning the bed before I updated our bedding. Here are the steps I took over three days.
Step One: Strip Bed To Mattress:
As you're stripping the bed, take note of the condition of your linens, pillows, and mattress cover. I knew going in that I’d be replacing our pillows, pillow protectors, and mattress cover, so I’d shopped for those earlier in the week and had them laundered and ready. It was part of the three-day process.
Step Two: Deep Clean your Bedroom:
Since we have a large headboard, I clean the wall behind the bed with a dry mop. I remove the artwork and start at the top left and work my way to the right and down the wall. You might be amazed at how much dust you collect!
Step Three: Start Washing your Bedding:
While I’m cleaning, I started washing the Beddy’s set. I received the Blair Luxe Chambray Blue King size set which included the cozy zipper comforter (bottom piece), a built-in zipper fitted sheet, (the top piece), two pillowcases, and two sham covers.
As with all bedding, you should heed the washing instructions. Beddy suggests adding a cup of white vinegar to the load on your set's initial washing to stop color runs and doing separate loads for the top and bottom pieces. I also divided the pillow and sham covers into each load.
The vinegar worked well and I had no color runs. I dried my pieces on the lowest heat setting and then let them air dry completely.
Once I’d finished dusting and vacuuming our bedroom, I started making the bed. First on the mattress and pillow protectors and then, the Beddy’s bottom!
Step Three: Start Making the Bed with New, Freshly washed Linens:
Even with a mattress topper and cover, the Beddy’s fit our bed perfectly and was easy enough to get on. The hardest part for me was squeezing my arm in a little space at the headboard to pull the Beddy’s tight.
Step Four: Time for Pillows and Shams:
I love the soft look and feel of these pieces! Both the pillowcases and sham covers were roomy enough to hold our fluffy king-size pillows. I think you’ll find Beddy’s doesn’t skimp on materials by sizing their products in the small size, which I’ve encountered with some other brands recently. If you’ve ever done battle with a pillowcase, you will appreciate this!
Step Five: Add Top, Built-in Fitted Sheet, and Zip Together:
This is where the fun starts. Spread out the Beddy’s top and align the zippers at the bottom. Thread the zipper pieces together like you would a jacket, being careful to tuck in the side of the fitted sheet prior to zipping up that section.
Beddy’s zippers are solid and built to be used, so you don’t have to worry about them breaking or getting stuck. You’ll be able to tell by the way the zipper looks and sounds as you zip the bedding together if all is well. Just listen to this short video to see what I mean.
Step Five: Style your Bed and prepare for a Soothing Summer Slumber:
I can’t get over the transformation of our bedroom with this bedding set! It’s changed the whole vibe of our bedroom and I’m loving it! So much so I’ve decided to change out our artwork to help bring in a more serene feel to match the aesthetic. The soft chambray blue, which can look gray on cloudy days, looks beautiful paired with the dark navy plaid, and our clean bedroom paired with the soft, comfy bedding has led to some great night's sleep! And, making our bed has never been so easy! Just fluff pillows, tuck in the top, and zip up!
