The dog days of summer are upon us and while some are enjoying their last bit of summer by taking road trips and vacations, here in my town, school starts back tomorrow! If you are feeling a little frazzled from all the busyness this season brings, I’ve got a perfect way to relax and take a trip back in time as well. My Thoughts:

The Cranbourne Sisters

I loved this movie! It drew me in within the first few minutes because there are two girls and I’m a mom of two girls. When last we Spoke starts in 1967 and moves from there to present day and back throughout the movie.  We meet the Cranbourne family, mom Marguerite, dad James and  sisters Juliet and Evangeline on the eve of their dad leaving to serve as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. Things go from bad to worse pretty quickly for the sisters, when their mom decides she needs to get back to her singing career  and drops the girls off at the farm of their grandparents, Elvis loving Ruby (Melissa Gilbert) and Walt (Corben Bernsen) on their farm.

They are welcomed with open and loving arms and soon enough, find themselves adapting to the ways and people of Fireside as days turn into months and there’s still no word from their career driven Mom.

I don’t want to spoil the movie for you, so suffice to say, you’ll laugh and cry and be enchanted with the small- town characters in When last We Spoke.
