Love is the only way.  That is a powerful message to convey to today's’ world, but love is really at the heart of life isn’t it? When a child acts out, what do parents do? We love them more. When a loved one or friend hurts, we hurt along with them and pour love over them.  When a community weeps, we weep with them and try to help by showing acts of kindness, support, and love. Just like Apostle Paul, we should adopt the love is the only way mentality.  I am thrilled to partner with Lev3l Digital and Sony Pictures Entertainment/ AFFIRM Films for today's’ post about the movie Paul, the Apostle of Christ coming to theaters just in time for Easter.

Movie Synopsis:

Paul, The Apostle of Christ movie #ad #PaulMovieL3,

PAUL, APOSTLE OF CHRIST is the story of two men. Luke, as a friend and physician, risks his life when he ventures into the city of Rome to visit Paul, who is held captive in Nero’s darkest, bleakest prison cell. But Nero is determined to rid Rome of Christians and does not flinch from executing them in the grisliest ways possible. Before Paul’s death sentence can be enacted, Luke resolves to write another book, one that details the beginnings of “The Way” and the birth of what will come to be known as the church.

Bound in chains, Paul’s struggle is internal. He has survived so much—floggings, shipwreck, starvation, stoning, hunger and thirst, cold and exposure—yet as he waits for his appointment with death, he is haunted by the shadows of his past misdeeds.  Alone in the dark, he wonders if he has been forgotten . . . and if he has the strength to finish well.
Two men struggle against a determined emperor and the frailties of the human spirit in order to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ and spread their message to the world.”

 Official Movie Trailer:

I’ve watched this movie trailer a few times now and I always receive a different message each time I do. I'd love to hear your thoughts in comments after you watch it.

My Thoughts:

Paul, The Apostle of Christ and Luke #ad #PaulMovieL3,

This is a powerful, stirring movie for Christians or anybody who may want to learn more about biblical teachings. I found myself transported back to a time that is so far removed from our busy, connected world today and yet, we as a society are still struggling with some of the same roadblocks to happiness and a fulfilling life. To say Paul is intense in his beliefs and undaunted in his quest is an understatement! He will not be stopped! We also get to learn more about Luke,(in the middle in the photo above); who visits Paul in prison. I find myself wanting to dive deeper into the topics covered in Paul, the Apostle of Christ movie like:

  • Grace: Where sin abounds, grace abounds more
  • Love: Love is the only way
  • Transformation and redemption: From Saul to Paul
  • Mercy: Nobody is beyond God’s mercy
  • Perseverance amidst persecution

I found the acting to be superb and I was drawn into the story by Paul played by James Faulkner, who many will recognize from his role as Lord Sinderby on Downton Abbey.  He has such a commanding voice! I was thrilled to learn that Mr. Faulkner is hosting a Letters from Paul reading series to coincide with the movie release.

Information on Letters From Paul Reading Series:

Join us for our reading series, Letters from Paul, drawn directly from the Epistles and narrated by James Faulkner, who plays Paul in the upcoming film. Hear God’s Word come alive in the voice of Paul as we await Holy Week and celebrate Christ’s triumphant victory on Easter Sunday.”

A Simple Truth: We are all Sinners:

We all struggle with our daily walk with Christ and with life. We are all sinners.  Watching the movie trailer and the heart of the story video below; where the cast and crew explain Paul and Luke’s story in such a real and relatable way has me excited about going to see this movie in theaters! I hope you’ll join me.
