Since Monday was a holiday, and for many, the unofficial start of Autumn, I thought today would be a perfect time to join my Review Wire blogging buddies and their Hello Autumn giveaway hop in which I’m giving away a copy of the book Compost Coach by Kate Flood.
Hello Autumn Book Giveaway and Blog Hop:
About The Compost Coach:
Written by Kate Flood/Published August 22,2023/Murdock Books/Paperback 264 pages
Synopsis:
The Compost Coach is a colorful, comprehensive, and accessible guide to creating the very best compost - AKA garden gold. Author Kate Flood is on a mission to empower readers to understand the small steps they can take every day to look after the environment and live more sustainability.
Kate’s message is clear from the start: Anyone can compost - including apartment/condo dwellers and houses with or without gardens. Yes, you can compost without a garden!
Kate wants to help us make compost, build soil, and grow a regenerative garden, wherever you live and I’m excited to do just that.
In The Compost Coach, Kate helps us rethink our waste management and teaches us how easy it is to divert food scraps and household carbon away from landfills. She unravels the technicalities of soil science, talks through the building blocks of a robust compost system, and busts a few myths along the way.
Did You Know?
- Composting is the coolest form of climate activism?
- About 40% of all food produced in the world is wasted?
- If global food waste was a country, it would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world, behind the United States and China.
That last statement alone was enough to make me take this book and the lessons available very seriously. I try my best to lessen my family's carbon footprint, but even I have been guilty of letting produce go bad and then tossing it in the trash.
In this book, Kate discusses the various kits and tools needed to start composting and guides us in deciding which one is right for our home. Her warm personality shines through in the way she writes and the colorful photos throughout this book.
The TakeAway:
If anybody could debunk the smelly and dirty belief I’ve held for many years, it is Kate. Not only does she show us how to stop the stink of composting and view it as a dirty chore, but she also talks about soil and its immense value on our planet, which I can totally get behind. Plus, I'd love to see my vegetable and flower gardens produce better than they did this year.
Kate says this book is for you if you like to cook, eat, and care about the world, and that’s most of us, right? I think she’s on to something and invite you to learn more about this book and the author at Quarto Books by following Kate on Instagram @compostable.kate. I’d love it if you’d give me a follow there as well. I’m @ismilefirst.
