My husband and I were recently invited to a unique, in-person screening of the latest Marvels Studio film: Thor Love and Thunder, and I will say right from scene one, we were entertained! I’d love to share some of my thoughts (no spoilers), before it opens in theaters tomorrow July 8, 2022.

Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Love and Thunder” finds the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey, unlike anything he’s ever faced – a search for self-discovery. But Thor’s retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods.

To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.
Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. Directed by Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok,” “Jojo Rabbit”) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum.
Thunderstruck- A Lost Superhero Sets Out to Find Himself:
Over the years we’ve seen Thor lose a lot: He’s lost family and friends, his home of Asgard, Mjolnir, and his battle with Thanos, not to mention his God-Viking physique. Sadder still, Thor has also lost his will to lead, as King of New Asgard. Thor bestows his title upon Valkyrie and hitches a ride with the Guardians of the Galaxy and that's the last we heard of him.
Thor Is Zen-full:
We catch up with Thor in a mediative state near the beginning of Thor Love and Thunder and his trademark humor is as strong as ever. Once Thor is caught up in the actions of Gorr, the God Butcher, he is ready and willing to help and the hilarity and true Thor fighting style erupt.
Gorr- God Butcher is Evil:
Cristian Bale is absolutely brilliant in this role! He is a scary villain, make no mistake, you’ll be on the edge of your seat during several scenes!
Jane is a great Mighty Thor:
I know some people never shipped the whole Jane/Thor relationship, but I liked it, so I’m glad to see her back and being a total baddie at that! She is a huge asset to the team as they try to stop the evil Gorr from killing more Gods and worse.

Is Thor Love and Thunder a great, action-packed summer blockbuster? No, not really because at its heart, it is a love story full of witty one-liners, crazy characters, campy scenes, rocking tunes, lots of action! and a host of other feelings that in the end, coalesce into a fantastic summer movie. Even though we didn’t get the chance to see the screener in IMAX, we enjoyed ourselves so much, that we’d pay to see it in IMAX! There are two end scenes as well, so be sure to stay for those!
