Did you know that last month was National Vision Month? It seems like there is a national month or day for pretty much everything these days, and while I take most of them in stride with a smile, I try to make my families eye health a priority, so I was happy to receive an email from Viteyes®, a leading eye supplement company who invited me to try their supplements and share some helpful information with you today. Their supplements were made to help ease tired eyes due to screen time and blue light.

Help For Tired Eyes:

Blue Light Defender Supplements to help ease tired eyes #ad

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Viteyes Supplements. I received information to facilitate today’s post as well as a complimentary bottle of supplements  to thank me for my participation. All opinions are my own.

About Viteyes®:

The Viteyes® brand, based in Michigan, was developed in 2002 with the goal of helping preserve the gift of sight and offers a wide range of eye supplements, including AREDS 2 supplements, blue light protection, tear support, eye focused multivitamins.

Screen Time & Blue Light:

With the current pandemic, we’re experiencing an increase in screen time, which may cause both short and long-term effects on eye health,” states Alison Gers, VP of Marketing at Vitamin Health. “Also, we’re  learning that the older high-risk population are not able to get everything they need to take care of their health – including imperative eye supplements such as AREDS2.” First let’s focus on screen time.

Screen time Overexposure:

According to the Viteyes website, we are spending more time staring at digital screens from computers to tablets, e-readers, smartphones, and other electronic devices. As we stare at our digital screens, we are being exposed to high-energy blue light, a component of visible light. Our eyes don’t easily filter blue light and overexposure can negatively impact vision. The overuse of digital screens can cause eyes to hurt and feel tired, called digital eye strain.

Why does this make my eyes feel so tired?

Viteyes says it’s because we spend hours looking at screens!  Our eye muscles that focus on near objects get tired. High-energy blue light also reduces contrast, therefore, causing our eyes to constantly adjust focus and the eye muscles to get more overworked. This can cause short-term effects of digital eye strain, including:

  • Headaches
  • blurred vision
  • dry eyes
  • eye strain
  • eye fatigue
  • long term effects on overall eye health

5 Tips to Protect your Eyes Against Screen Time/Blue Light:

1. Reduce overhead lighting to help eliminate screen glare.

2. When at your computer, you should be at arm’s distance away from screen.

3. Follow the 20-20-20 rule when using a digital device, taking a 20-second break from the screen every 20 minutes, and looking at something 20 feet away.

4. Increase text size on devices to better define content on the screen.

5. Have a diet rich in eye nutrients such as lutein, zeaxanthin, and astaxanthin. To ensure you are getting clinically proven amounts daily supplement your diet with a daily eye vitamin that contains all three nutrients such as Viteyes Blue Light Defender + .

More About How your Diet Can Help:

We’ve been told to eat our dark leafy greens for good reason. They are great for our bodies, which includes our eyes. Try adding spinach to your morning smoothie or switch out iceberg lettuce for Romaine lettuce and add Spinach or Kale in your salads because each are loaded with Lutein and Zeaxanthin, which are the only natural defenses our eyes have to protect your macula from the harmful effects of blue light.

Another great source of healthy eye nutrition comes from the sea. Astaxanthin is a potent antioxidant clinically proven to promote dynamic focus by helping eye muscles perform better and recover faster from eye strain and fatigue. It also helps keep eyes healthy by increasing blood flow to the eye. Astaxanthin is found in select seafood like shrimp and lobster, however, the best source in food is salmon. Clinical research says that we need at least 4 mg of astaxanthin per day for eye health benefits, but it is difficult to get this much astaxanthin from diet alone. For example, just to get 4 mg of astaxanthin per day, one would need to consume 1 serving of Sockeye salmon each day OR 2 servings of Coho salmon each day OR 8 servings of King salmon.

Since a lot of people simply don’t eat enough of these types of foods, we have a helper with Viteyes Blue Light Defender Supplements.

Viteyes Blue Light Defender Gummies Supplements #ad

I received a complimentary bottle of Viteyes gummies to try and while I haven’t noticed a big difference yet, it makes me feel good knowing I’m adding these helpful supplements to my diet. I think I’ll get the capsules next time though, because I’m not a huge fan of gummies. If you’d like to try the supplements, go to Viteyes.com and use coupon code BLUE to save $5.00 off your purchase.

As always, I hope you found these tips helpful.
