I battled the ants who are crawling all over these heavenly scented blooms armed with stakes a mallot and lots of florist tape.
I have learned my lesson- stake peonies the very 1st sign of spring or suffer the ickiness that is ants in your hair.

Leave your peony stakes up all year long. That way you never have to remember again. I remember the first time I saw ants all over the peonies and tried to kill the ants. Then someone told me they needed the ants for them to open up. Gardending is a learn as you go experiment!
Yes it is Donna, but I enjoy gardening so much I'd gladly suffer ants in my hair. :-)
I'll try to resist the urge to pull up stakes come fall.
