It’s hard to believe that in ten short days, my daughters will be on fall break from school. For my family, this break marks the official end of summer and the slow and steady descent into holiday mode. It starts with Halloween prep and party fun and slowly gains momentum from there. We all love this time of year, but one thing we don’t love is getting sick. Coughs, colds, runny noses, sore throats, strep and the biggie- Flu are no joke. They can enter your home easily and linger for days or weeks. The dreaded “bug” season is upon us! It’s time to think ahead and prepare for cold and flu season by stocking up on essentials.

Prevention is better than Cure:

Whether you’ve grown up with that proverb, or the more familiar words an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure quote from Benjamin Franklin, the meaning still holds true today. Trying to prevent illness is best of course, but being prepared for the inevitability of you or a loved one getting sick this season is the smarter move. I was one of the countless adults who had the flu last year during the holidays, and I vowed I would be ready this year just in case because making the dreaded run to Kroger while you feel terrible is just that, terrible!

Get a Jump on the Season:

As I type this, I’m wearing shorts and it was a beautiful, balmy day, so it is hard to think about colder days, but they are coming, so now is the time to take some preventative measures. Here are some tips to help you prep for cold and flu season.

One- Get a Flu shot. The CDC recommends all persons aged 6 months and older get an annual vaccination. I didn’t get one last year, even though I could have easily stopped in at the Kroger pharmacy and gotten it taken care of on my weekly grocery shopping trip.

Two- Get enough sleep. This really is a no-brainer and yet, I find myself getting to bed right before 11pm and getting up before 6am. I’m doing better than some, but there is room for improvement. Take stock of how many hours of sleep you’re getting and do your best to cut back on TV or screen time now to ensure you are getting a good night’s sleep.

Three- Stay hydrated. You may think you are properly hydrating, but unless you are drinking half your body weight in water and other good for you drinks, you probably aren’t. I struggle with drinking all that water too, so I’m drinking more tea. I just discovered Lipton Daily Support Tea and find it’s a perfect afternoon pick me up.

The great thing about Daily Support tea is it is an excellent source of Vitamin C, with an herbal infusion helps support your body's natural defenses.* Lipton carefully selected botanicals that are blended with green tea and natural essential oils that make every cup delicious, even plain. I don’t need to add honey to mine, it tastes that good.  Lipton has a line of Wellness teas to choose from including Soothing Tummy and Bedtime Bliss. If my sleep habits don’t improve, I’ll be trying this tea next.

Four- Keep Tissues and Wipes on hand:

It’s that time of year when you hear a lot of sneezing and you may think its seasonal allergies. It very well could be just that, but it could also a late summer cold. Why take the chance? Stock up on Kleenex® tissues now and cover all the bases by keeping a box in every room of your house and in your car. My daughters prefer Kleenex® Ultra Soft Tissues.  They are 3-Ply and extra soft to deliver gentle care and relief. They are so soft and soothing, especially if you’ve been blowing your nose frequently.

Kleenex also has these cool Wet Wipes packs. I picked up a pack for my purse for those times when I’m on the go and may need to clean my hands (or my nieces face before she kisses me!). They are soft enough for your face and body.

Currently, look for the $1.50 coupon on 4-pack Kleenex Facial Tissues, for Kleenex Germ Removal Wet Wipes. And, 11/4-11/24 you can get .50¢ off Kleenex 4-pack bundles and Kleenex Wet Wipes via this digital offer.  You can also save $2.00 on any ONE (1) Theraflu Power Pods through 12/8, via this digital offer. I love saving on products my family always uses.

Five- Stock up on Theraflu Pods:

I don’t want to let a cold or flu get in my way this year, so I’m keeping these pods on hand. I’m really excited about the simple convenience of being able to use my single serve coffee maker to make a cup of cold or flu relief!

It really was as simple as popping a pod into my coffee maker, and waiting for it to brew. The Theraflu Power Pods Daytime Severe Cold pods are a cup of green tea, menthol and berry infused relief. It can help treat the symptoms of a cold or flu-like nasal congestion, sore throat pain, cough, headache, body aches and fever.

Stocking up on all these cold and flu season essentials was really easy to do since my local Kroger store carries all these products that are easy to find while I’m doing my regular grocery shopping.
