About the author Dr. Robin Miller:

Dr. Robin Miller, author of Healed #ad

Dr. Robin Miller is an established author of The Smart Woman’s Guide to Midlife and Beyond and Kids Ask the Doctor. Dr. Miller has gathered knowledge, insights, and anecdotes offered in Healed- Health and Wellness in the 21st Century over the course of 33 years of treating patients using the principles of integrative medicine.

Why she wrote Healed- Health and Wellness in the 21st Century:

Ten years ago Dr. Miller left mainstream medicine so that she could start practicing the type of medicine she dreamed of while in med-school, patient-focused medicine. She had been frustrated with the lack of options available in conventional medicine. She began to search for innovative ways to help people achieve balance and wellness. All her research and innovative ideas are within the pages of Healed- Health and Wellness for the 21st Century.

My Thoughts:

Healed- Health and Wellness for the 21st Century #ad

I’ve read countless self-help and healthy living books over the years, and while I’ve gleaned nuggets of helpful information from most of them, there were a few books I found to be a complete waste of my time because it felt like rehashed content. Thankfully, Healed- Health and Wellness for the 21st Century is not one of those books.

I found this book to be filled with concise, easy to follow ideas and instructions with real-life human stories to back up the claim. This is a healthy living guidebook so you can look for the topic that is most important to you.

My first Topic Pick- Stop Dieting:

One topic I found helpful was the chapter on how to stop dieting and maintain a healthy weight. Dr. Miller unpacked the floating set point theory, which was an Aha! moment for me because it helped explain why I would lose 15 pounds in one part of the year and then “find” 10 of those pounds again in the next part of the year. Now I know what to do to reset my set point weight so that doesn’t continue to happen.

My second Topic Pick- Alzheimer's:

Another topic that I read with great interest was Dr. Miller’s advice on how to decrease your Alzheimer’s risk by 75%. Having lost my mother in law to dementia a year ago, I can tell you with all honesty- I hope I never lose another loved one or myself to this disease. Now I have the knowledge and tools to help combat that and I never would have expected Dr. Miller to promote ballroom dancing so thoroughly!

Let's Dance:

The evidence is there is black and white. On the back cover of Healed- Health and Wellness for the 21st Century, it says it’s guaranteed to inspire you to get up and start dancing

And it has. No, my husband and I haven’t taken up ballroom dancing just yet, but I have started taking dance breaks while working.  I’m turning on the radio more frequently and when an up-tempo song comes on (hello, Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars!) I get up and dance through the whole song! Not just “mom dance” either. I MOVE. You know that saying “Dance like nobody is watching?” That’s me in my kitchen unloading the dishwasher, or me in my den doing my thing to a fun bop.

My Take Away:

I think Healed- Health and Wellness for the 21st Century is a great book for anybody who feels stuck in their current lifestyle. Whether that’s physical, emotional, mental, stuck is stuck and Dr. Miller wants to help us get unstuck and start living a healthy, fun life. I invite you to learn more about the book here and follow Dr. Miller and Facebook.

The idea that this can help improve my depression would be a prize already! I have struggled so much with bipolar depression and could use something to help pick me up and naturally. My family would probably benefit from this as well and all the other wonderful, healthy benefits this book can do for one inside as well☺.

I haven't ever ballroom danced before, but love dancing and singing while doing chores, just not in front of anyone! Sounds like a great book!

This book looks good! I like that folks are realizing that it's time to get back to nature and understand how our bodies work instead of just automatically grabbing for chemicals & medications!
