Club Penguin 1-month Membership Giveaway

in , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, December 21, 2012

The kids are getting out of school for the most wonderful time of the year. I am happy to share another great boredom buster with you from my friend over at MyUNEntitled Life: A one month free membership to Club Penguin!

Read her review below and enter to win!

My children love Club Penguin. We've had a Club Penguin Membership in our house for years, since my son was 9 I believe. You set up a username and password and the children can log in to play. It is the number one virtual site for children. It is advertising free and there is an area on their site that is free to children. They are not allowed to share their information with other players and they have monitors who make sure the rules are followed. It's nice to be able to let kids play online, watch them have fun and not worry. My first child played it for many years. He's older now and has moved on. My younger son is now playing and my daughter is too.
My daughter just logged in and has been playing a lot lately. Especially now that we are out of school for the holidays. Interested in trying Club Penguin for your own family? You can thank Disney for giving us 3 one month memberships to giveaway to our most loyal fans. Enter below to win! Thank you Disney for providing my child a fun, safe environment for game playing and hours of enjoyment. Make sure you check out my post on how Club Penguin is encouraging kids to give in their own community!
To date Club Penguin has given $9million to various charities around the world.

Prayers and a Pledge

in , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Tuesday, December 18, 2012

So many worlds were forever changed last Friday. Even though my home is states away from Newtown Connecticut, I can almost see it; and the people in this beautiful New England town having spent a summer in the area years ago.
I wish I could have attended the candle-light vigil last night in Charleston, CT. to show my support.

I have felt helpless in the wake of this tragic, ugly event.
Yes, I have prayed and cried and gasped in horror and grieved right along with the rest of the world, but until this morning I felt powerless to do anything of true value.
I had no plans to write about my feelings, because, honestly, this tragedy isn’t about me.
And then it came to me - yes it is about me in one small but meaningful way. I am a Mom raising future Moms.

Parents- this is our call to action!

I can’t change the whole world, but I can change my part of it.
 How?

The very best and most useful thing I can do for this grieving town full of families just like my own is to be a better me.
Make my world- right here, in my home, on my street and community, in my children’s school, in my relationships with every single person I come in contact with starting right now: Better.
I can be a brighter light in this dark world and in turn I can enable my children to be bright lights as well.

It is the only true gift I have to give.

If we all went forth from this moment on with love and kindness in the fore-front, wouldn’t all our worlds be a brighter place?

You are in our thoughts and prayers Newtown.  We will light a candle for you on Christmas Day and I pledge to be a better me from this day forth.

Have you ever found yourself on a field trip with several classrooms of 4th graders and nearest bathroom is a long hike towards the exit?

Yes, life’s sticky situations happen to us Moms with older kids too.
Field trips where the kids got lots of hands on experiences, like petting live-stock and feeling soybeans is a perfect place for Wet Ones!

Here are some tips for your next field trip.
1. Make sure your purse/backpack is stocked with Wet Ones and an extra “trash” bag to toss wipes in case no trash can is near.
2. Try to be calm and not freak out when you see a child getting ready to stick their grubby hands on their face and offer them a wipe first.  Some kids will do something gross just to get a rise out of you.
3. After your group is done with the activity, ask them to form a line, hand them a wipe (don’t let them pull one out themselves) and then have them toss it in the trash bag.
Easy –peasy field trip clean up!
Do your kids get in sticky situations too?

Wet Ones is giving us the opportunity to share all of the Sticky Situations we have found ourselves in and tips on how to deal with them through their Facebook Contest!

The Greeting Card Cut List

in , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, December 14, 2012
I have always enjoyed the giving and receiving of Holiday Greeting cards. I am a classic; less is more kind of card sender; preferring to send a festive card with a short hand written note inside. As I sat down to start on my cards this week, I realized I needed to re-vamp my list completely since my master list was riddled with notes beside almost every name.

It was time for the Greeting Card cut list.

I don’t enter into this area lightly, because I know how I would feel if I were off the list. But wait a minute, I think that shipped has sailed if my notes are any indication!
Over the course of the last 3 years, we have received more e-cards from friends and family who once sent out mailed cards. Is this just a product of our societies need for all things “online”? Is it the downed economy? Have we Kinsman’s somehow fallen off the short list of worthy stamped greetings? Maybe, probably and I hope not!

The point is I feel obliged to follow the path in front of me and do my own form of cutting.

Here was my method:
If we haven’t heard from you in any form or fashion, like you have fallen off the face of the earth in 4 years: you are cut completely.
If you always thank me for my Christmas card in your e-card on my birthday in May:  you are cut from my mailed list and bumped to e-card status.
If you have never us sent a mailed card, preferring e-cards, but haven’t sent me one in 2 yrs.: you are cut from my mailed card list, put on my e-card list, but only for this year.
If you send us your annual newsletter, complete with a call to donate to your charity: e-card!
If you sent us an e-card last year: e-card.

Did making these cuts make me feel Grinch-ish? Nope, it was liberating!
My new Greeting card list is clean and tidy and shows me that I have a nice balance of mailed cards at 60% and e-cards at 40%.
How does your Greeting Card list look? Is it time to update it?
Have you had to make cuts as well?

I'd love to hear from you!
