Thanks to my sponsor, BrylaneHome, for supplying a free Deep dish Lasagna/Roaster pan to help me write this post today. My love of cooking a family style dinner and my opinions are 100% my own.

Even though it’s officially still summer, we got a much needed break from the heat and humidity last week in the form of glorious rain. This rainy day was the perfect time for me to try out my new deep dish Lasagna/Roaster pan from Brylane Home.

Stainless steel deep dish Lasagna Pan/Roaster #BrylaneHome

I didn’t have the needed time or ingredients to make my homemade sauce for Lasagna, so I opted instead to make a family favorite- my Sunday Roast Chicken. I couldn’t wait to give this Stainless Steel beauty of a pan a try.

I really like that this set comes with a removable footed rack for roasting and look how deep it is! Four inches deep insures you won’t have any bubble overs and allows you plenty of room to make a large family style meal.  The plastic lid and heavy duty spatula make this a perfect set for community functions and family events too.  Just cook, cover and go.

I lightly oiled the rack and sides of the pan to start. Then I lined up my veggies on the rack. The veggies stayed in place nicely on the rack.

I could have easily doubled this recipe to feed a family of 8 to 10, that’s how big this pan is!

Next, I seasoned my chicken and veggies, added some aromatic herbs and was ready for the true test of any RoasterHow well and evenly does it cook?

Sunday Chicken Dinner ready to go in oven #BrylaneHome

The house was full of the heavenly scent of my Sunday Roast Chicken and my family kept visiting the kitchen to ask when dinner would be done.  After a final check of my chicken’s temperature and a quick fork check of the veggies, I am happy to report that the BrylaneHome Deep Dish Lasagna/Roaster pan performed perfectly!

Cooking time was the same as my other Roaster at one and half hours and the chicken turned out moist and tender, while the veggies were done just the way my family likes them.

Doesn’t this look good? I’ll be sharing my Sunday Roast Chicken recipe soon!

Perfect Sunday Chicken from BrylaneHome #Roaster #dinner

Our Sunday dinner was a success and now that fall’s cooler temperatures are drawing near, I’m sure I will be putting my new deep dish roaster/pan to good use. My family has already said they can’t wait for a deep dish version of my Lasagna.

If you are in the mood to start fall cooking again and need a good deep dish pan, I invite you to check out the deep dish Lasagna/Roaster pan from Brylane Home which is currently on sale. While there, be sure to request a catalog

It’s the last Friday of the month and I couldn’t think of a better movie to talk about than the feel-good, family-friendly Healed by Grace 2. I wanted to review this movie today because I’m a mom of a teen daughter who loves horses like the main character does. While my girl has stopped asking for a pony for her birthday, I still found so many relatable scenes in this movie. If you love family-friendly movies about family, faith, forgiveness, and reconciliation, then please read on for my review and to enter our great giveaway for a DVD  combo pack for Healed by Grace ( the original) and Healed by Grace 2 ( the sequel).

It used to be a weekend tradition for us to watch the TV show, so I happily agreed to share the magic of Thomas and the Magic Railroad 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-Ray/DVD Giveaway with you today.

#‎ad‬ Be ‪‬#PositivelyPreparedfor ‪#‎BacktoSchool‬ this year with these tips and savings from #Target‬ and #Tylenol‬.

We are in our third full day of the new school year here at casa Kinsman and I will confess to feeling a little more pressure than usual as I take in the scope of what this milestone year will bring for my family. ”Busy” doesn’t seem to adequately cover the 2016-2017 school year ahead!  My oldest daughter is a senior with a heavy class load, clubs, prom, graduation and college looming large. My youngest is an eighth grader with tough classes, banquets, club events, and graduation from middle school.  Instead of letting this pressure filled year overwhelm me, I found easy ways to be prepared for this school year with my teens and want to share them with you today.

Family vacation fun

Have fun! I’ve read several back to school checklists and oddly, this simple way to stay positive during this crazy, hectic time of year wasn’t mentioned. I snapped the above photo on our recent family vacation to the Smoky Mountains. We were having so much fun, so I’ll implement time for fun into our daily routines.

Take time to stretch everyday! #PositivelyPrepared for #BacktoSchool

Stretch! You may think that back pain is strictly parent’s domain, but that is not the case. Our teens lug around a loaded down back pack full of books, or carry their books to class daily. Not to mention having to look down at their desks to do their assignments. This can lead to back pain and a serious crick in the neck. Setting aside just 10 minutes after school to stretch out those tired muscles will help refresh and invigorate our kids to finish the day on the right foot.

Hydrate! By the time we feel thirsty, we are probably already about a quart low on fluids! Most kids don’t drink enough water during the school day, so it’s very important that we offer tasty ways for our kids to re- hydrate after school. Be sure to stock up on after school snacks that are super hydrators like watermelon and grapes. Make a cool and refreshing fruit smoothie if your busy schedule allows, or try this trick. Fill a water bottle halfway and place in the freezer when you making lunches for the next day. Grab and fill with water to take with you to after school activities.

Inevitably, no matter how well we plan our days, back to school time can bring on aches and pains, colds and headaches, so my last tip is to stock up on reliable pain relief products like TYLENOL® and MOTRIN®.  Afterall, TYLENOL® is the #1 Doctor Recommended Brand of Pain Reliever and offers trusted pain relief

Whether you are relishing the last days of your summer vacation, or your kids have already headed back to school, I hope my today’s post will help you ease back into school mode and help you be positively prepared for what the school year holds in store for you and your family.

Please share in comments: What is your best tip for easing back in to school routines?

By August, our family meal plans have fizzled and we all are getting a bit bored with the same dinner fare. That’s why last week, I decided to go old school and serve up tasty tacos on, you guessed it! Tuesday- much to the delight of my family! If your summer dinner routine has hit a snag, maybe it’s time to bring back Taco Tuesday and delight your family too.

Bring back Taco Tuesday #summerfiesta

I wanted to keep dinner a surprise, so I headed to Publix by myself with the intention of buying the ingredients for good old fashioned beef and bean tacos. That’s when I noticed the Stand ‘n Stuff Taco shells dinner kit right beside their refried beans and green chilies that I normally buy. I knew these stand-alone shells would be a big hit with my girls, so in the cart they went, along with some avocados for guacamole.

My WAHM Plan: Avocados from Mexico make tasty guacamole

As soon as I got home, I started making some guacamole with these beautiful avocados. I’m fortunate that my family loves the taste of this fruit! Of course we aren’t alone- did you know that Americans eat 1.4 billion pounds of guacamole a year?! Yeah, I was pretty blown away by that number myself.

I keep my guacamole recipe really simple and easy to follow by using ingredients and spices I have on hand like ground garlic, cumin, Adobo and fresh squeezed lime juice. I’ve found it I stick to this recipe, the guacamole will get gobbled up and used for more than just chip dipping,  We spread it on sandwiches, dip our carrots and peppers and more.

My WAHM Plan: freshly made Guacamole

Avocados do ripen really quickly, so I used all 5 of mine in this batch of guacamole. If your family won’t eat that much, you can store uncut avocados in the frig for a few days, or slice them and squeeze fresh lemon or lime juice on them to keep the avocado from browning. If you’d like to see some recipes for guacamole and other avocado dishes, just head on over to Avocados from MexicoMy guacamole tasted perfect with some Blue Corn tortilla chips I had on hand, so I set it in the frig to chill and got started on my stand’n stuff tacos.

My WAHM Plan: Taco Tuesday stand n stuff tacos

With the Old El Paso dinner kit that has shells, meat seasonings and taco sauce, my Taco Tuesday dinner was done in a flash. Besides cheese and sour cream, I make sure I serve tacos with lots of veggies- romaine lettuce, black olives, tomatoes, peppers, and more guacamole to help them be a bit healthier.

When my family came to the dinner table, they couldn’t have been more surprised and delighted that I was serving tacos on Tuesday again. And the crunchy, easy to use stand n stuff shells were a huge hit!

My WAHM Plan: serve up a plate of crunchy tacos for dinner

If tacos aren’t your thing, you can find lots of quick and easy dinner recipes like Grilled Fajita Boats over at Old El Paso. They sound just as yummy as my tacos and I’m sure will be just as welcome at your next #summerfiesta dinner.

Save!

From now, through the 19th, you can save on all Old El Paso products by shopping with Publix. Just upload, or print out the coupons at readysetsave.com to your loyalty card.

I love receiving homemade gifts any time of year, but most especially on Mother’s Day.  We are a family of traditions and one that I adore is having the kids serve me breakfast they made themselves. When they were little, Daddy helped of course; but as they got older they wanted to take on more of the responsibility.  I’ve been served everything from toast with jam to chocolate covered strawberries. I know my daughters would love whipping up this simple Blueberry loaf recipe from celeb chef Zipora Einav for me. Baked goods make a perfect Mother’s Day gift!

For countless people, Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer. My family is among those numbers.  This weekend was especially joyous for us as our oldest daughter’s high school graduation ceremony was on Saturday morning. Our weekend was filled to the brim with activity, some major milestones (like graduating!) and some more routine, like having a cookout and buying flowers for our porches.

With Thanksgiving drawing ever closer, I wanted to share another gift guide with you, just in time for Black Friday shopping and beyond. This one has six fun gift ideas for the whole family. I think you’re going to really like this gift guide and hope you'll let me know if you find a gift you'll give from it.

Six Fun Gift Ideas for the whole Family

My family and I love shopping at our local Aldi grocery store. No other grocery offers me the same quality produce, meat, and dairy, plus a wide and varied selection of organic products all at affordable process. I can’t sing the praises of this store enough, so I was delighted when I was asked if I’d like to receive a copy of The Unofficial ALDI®  Cookbook to review and host a giveaway. Read on to learn about Aldi and enter the giveaway.

My husband and I love to cook good, wholesome meals for our family of four, but lately, we’ve fallen into a bit of a mealtime rut.  We both agree that adding more fall vegetables and good for you grains was a must- but even those small changes didn’t feel like quite enough to get us back on a healthy eating track. While working online one day, a cookbook title caught my eye- Nourishing Meals by Alissa Segersten and Tom Malterre (husband and wife) and I thought this would be a great way to add fresh ideas to our meal planning.

Read on to learn about Nourishing Meals 365 Whole foods, allergy free recipes for healing your family one meal at a time

Nourishing Meals book cover

Clearly this book was written for those who are trying to eat better, I expected that from the title. What I didn’t expect was that all those inviting meals I’d seen on the cover were really gluten-free, dairy-free and soy free dishes. Nobody in my family has a dietary restriction, so you may be wondering why I would select this type of cookbook. It was the promise to help me ditch the processed foods one allergy-free meal at a time that grabbed me and honestly, I couldn’t be happier with what I’ve learned so far.

Nourishing Meals offers 365 whole foods, allergy-free recipes for healing your family one meal at a time. I’m educating myself, or rather, re-educating myself while reading this cookbook, starting off with the preface-   7 steps to sustainable dietary change. These are do-able steps that aren’t meant to be hurried through, or done all at once. The author’s idea is restorative nourishment, which can gently and gradually nurture our systems until unhealthy foods and habits naturally fade away.

My family and I are spending more time on step one, which is Add more vegetables. We know we eating vegetables is good for us. Our parents told us to eat our vegetables when we were kids and chances are if you are a parent- you are saying it to your kids now. Sometimes though, it can be challenging to get kids to eat their veggies. Never fear, this book is loaded with tips- from pregnancy through childhood- on how to deal with and prevent picking eating behaviors.

Chickpea curry recipe- Nourishing Meals
Source

You are invited into recipe chapters during the 7 steps. For instance, in step 1, there is a Smoothie chapter that can aide in getting kids to eat their veggies. look at the tasty Chickpea vegetable curry recipe highlighted in the photo above. Doesn't that look like a delightful way to eat more vegetables?

Step 2 talks about making your own salad dressings while step three- (where I am this week) discusses the importance of replacing processed grain foods with whole foods. In this step, the recipes I’d like to try are Fluffy Cashew Pancakes and Chicken Breakfast sausages.

Another chapter I’ve found very helpful and timely is Packing a healthy lunchbox. Now that my daughters are teenagers, they pack their own lunches. Keeping a variety of good for them lunch foods on hand can be daunting, so I’m thankful for the fresh ideas in this chapter. With their easy to read lunch and snack lists, I can just turn to this chapter and make my shopping list, choosing what I know my kids will eat. Same goes for my husband’s lunchbox. He’s always pleasantly surprised when I add celery stalks or pepper slices to his lunch, and now I’m armed with even more healthy lunchbox ideas.

If one of your goals is to feed your family healthy, nourishing, tasty meals, I am happy to suggest this all-inclusive book. I’ve learned so much already in the short time I’ve had it.  I’m educating myself on why living a gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free lifestyle is perfect for some and that it may not be perfect for me and mine- it is always good to know the WHY behind each choice. The next time I am hosting a dinner or sleep over and learn that one of our guests does have a food allergy, I will be better equipped to cook and serve them food that tastes good and is nourishing to them.

Another great part of this book is how hands on it helps you become. Check out this cool DIY recipe for homemade herbed sea salt on the Nourishing Meals Facebook page.

SF Bay Gourmet Coffee review and giveaway

in , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Monday, December 12, 2016

It is no secret that we are a coffee loving family here. My husband and I enjoy regular blend coffee that we buy at our local grocery store during our work week and that is perfectly fine. On the weekends though, we like to treat ourselves to a cup or two of specialty coffee roasts and flavors, so when SF Bay Coffee invited me to review their coffee and host a giveaway, I was only too happy to oblige.

I received complimentary product to facilitate today’s post and giveaway, however, all opinions and love of a good cup of coffee are my own.

I love learning about small family owned businesses like SF Bay Gourmet Coffee  based out the San Francisco Bay area.  Not just because I grew up near this area of northern California, but also because I know from first-hand experience all the hard work and dedication to takes to keep small businesses going! Both my husband and I have years of experience in the small business industry so, I applaud the Rogers Family on a job well done.

Coffee Choices:

SF Bay Gourmet Espresso Roast was my choice #giveaway

SF Bay Gourmet coffees come in regular, Espresso and decaf varieties in flavors like Amaretto Milano, Caramel Crème, Chocolate Almond, and Chocolate Raspberry, Cinnamon Crumb Cake, Dark Habits Dark Chocolate Caramel and more.

My Thoughts:

I chose the Espresso Roast to try because my husband prefers a full-bodied cup of coffee without added flavoring and we were not disappointed in this smooth, easy on the stomach coffee.  We really could “taste the difference” with SF Bay Gourmet Coffee.  This roast pairs well with breakfast or brunch, and I found myself wanting to make a coffee cake to serve alongside this coffee when holiday company arrives- it’s that good!

I want to purchase the Dark Habits Dark Chocolate Caramel coffee next and experience some of their East India teas. The Apricot Orange herbal blend caught my eye as did the Earl Grey loose leaf tea. They offer a Java Perks club and affordable prices, making this a fantastic company to shop with this holiday. I invite you to learn more about them here and by following them on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
