Talking about sick children with cancer isn’t a topic I normally cover here on my blog, but watching and reviewing films is. Today, those two topics collide as I share my no-spoiler review of Audrey’s Children, a biopic film that takes on children’s cancer in 1969. Since this is a no-spoiler review, I won’t go into much detail about the children, but please stop reading here if this topic is upsetting.

As we get ready to welcome spring and the fun celebrations of the season, I’m reminded again of how often cocktails and mocktails are a part of these annual gatherings. I was delighted to have the opportunity to review a new book, Cocktails Southern Style by Belinda Smith-Sullivan, and share her Southern Mule Recipe with you today.

Much of the country is still dealing with the last winter storm that had us using terms like “polar vortex” and “record-breaking snowfall”, but for those of us who garden, we’re counting down the days until spring arrives! If you dream of growing flowers by the armful like me, today’s book review for The Cut Flower Handbook by Lisa Mason Ziegler is for you.

I’ve been making this no-egg drop cookie recipe for almost twenty years, so it's become a family favorite. I like to use dark chocolate chips this time of year to make the cookies extra special for my Valentine’s Day Sweethearts. I’m sharing the recipe with you today so you can bake up a batch without ever touching precious egg supplies.

Happy Thursday dear readers. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas yesterday. We did. Now that Christmas is behind me, I turn my attention to the upcoming awards season. The Oscars will be here before we know it. Today I wanted to share a film that’s available to stream, The Six Triple Eight starring Kerry Washington.

For the next week or so, I’ll be sharing film suggestions and reviews with you for the upcoming holidays, and the lead-up to awards season. It’s hard to believe I’ll be taking part in my fourth Oscar season this year with the Music City Film Critics Association, based in Nashville, TN. Today, we’re talking about Dear Santa!  I know you’re going to enjoy all the holiday hijinks that Jack Black brings to Dear Santa. Here’s my no-spoiler review.

Santa or Satan? You Be The Judge!

Dear Santa Film Review

As you know, I love holiday films, having reviewed Red One with Dwayne Johnson and A Sudden Case of Christmas with Danny DeVito last month. I will add my two cents on Dear Santa with Jack Black very soon. Today’s review is for a film that won’t give you the warm fuzzies like most of Hugh Grant’s films do (hello holiday classic Love, Actually, Happy 20th!). Prepare yourself to see Hugh Grant in a whole new light in Heretic.

Have you ever gone to a lunch spot because you’d heard about their amazing sourdough rolls? That’s what led my daughter and I to drive to Nolensville, a quaint little suburb of Nashville a few weeks back to lunch at Wabash Southern Kitchen. If you’re local, you’ll want to add this hidden gem to your lunch spots.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, so says the holiday songs, but for some, it has been such a hard year, it may be difficult for them to see the good. Amid all the black Friday and cyber Monday calls to shop and spend, shining a light on a giving day is one of my favorites to write about and share.

Welcome to Fall Friday Faves

in , , , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, September 27, 2024

It feels and looks very fall like today in Nashville, TN. area because the remnants of Hurricane Helene showed up here before sunrise. We’re blessed to be okay and I send out well wishes for all who were in the path of it. Even though I didn’t hit my goal of a weekly Friday Faves post this month like I shared on Labor Day, I’m happy to be sharing my second today and will try again in October.

My Fall Friday Faves!

My Fall Friday Faves

Happy Friday dear readers. I hope you are enjoying the last few days of summer as much as I am. Even though it's gotten hot here again, I’m turning my thoughts towards fall gardening and homemaking. Last month, I was honored to become an ambassador for Storey Publishing, so today’s book is the first of what I hope to be many collaborations with it for them. Today's review is about the beloved herb Lavender. It's a staple in my here garden.

I’m honored to be part of the press that’s providing coverage of the 55th Nashville Film Festival, which kicks off in Nashville, Tennessee this evening at 5;30pm. I wish I could attend this year's red carpet event at the Belcourt Theatre like I did two years ago. It was an exciting event and I learned a great deal about providing coverage at a festival. This year’s festival looks just as exciting and I’ll be sharing coverage throughout the week here on the blog and on socials.

As a Quarto Books ambassador, I get the privilege of being introduced to books and authors I may not otherwise know, or read. Such is the case with today’s book Make Art or Die Trying by Stuart Semple. I love art, and have a creative side, but Stuart's approach to harnessing the power of creative ideas to create art to change your life and community is a refreshing take on this subject. Read on to learn about Temples art and enter the giveaway for a prize bundle with three winners.

If you follow me on social media, you may have caught my recent post about the film God Bless Bitcoin. The overall consensus was, most of us don’t know much about BitCoin. One follower even said the idea of BitCoin scares her. In an effort to better understand this type of currency, or crypto currency, I had the opportunity to interview the producers  of GodBless Bitcoin for today’s post.
