It’s the third Friday in this brand-new
year and decade my friends, how are you feeling? I for one am really happy
with how this year (and decade!) have started. I’m a positive person by nature,
so I do tend to see the good in most situations, including my day job right
here on the blog. Sure, I’ve had my ups and down’s in this ever-changing
industry, but I think my positivity and professionalism rise to the top, because
recently a friend asked me for career advice. She works full time outside the home but had
been toying with the idea of adding an additional income stream she could do on
weekends and thought of me as her knowledgeable go-to person! I immediately shared
my two income stream ideas with her and wanted to share them with you today.
Choose Your Own Path:
This is a sponsored post on behalf of iMedX. I received information to facilitate my
review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
I felt fate stepping in when I opened my planner to February,
and the thought for the month Choose your own Path and the quote for February
is “Be truthful, gentle and fearless.” – Mahatma Gandhi. They fit this topic
perfectly in my opinion because in order to pick a good side hustle, you must
do what’s best and right for you and your personality. I knew from past
conversations with my friend that blogging just wouldn’t be her cup of tea, but
I could very well see her doing either of the income producing ideas I’ve
outlined today.
Income Idea 1- For handy Extroverts: Start a Furniture Flipping Business:
If you love to talk with people, are the outdoorsy type and
have a few hours per week available, this side hustle may be for you. Flipping
items isn’t new, there are countless You Tube videos, online posts and TV shows dedicated to this side hustle. I’ve
always been fascinated by furniture flipping since I like doing DIY projects
like this desk I’m currently working on.
I’ve done some research and one day hope to take this from
idea to income stream. If this idea intrigues you, you’ll want to read this very informative tutorial by Gary Vaynerchuk. He is a no-nonsense guy who cuts through
the BS and tells you everything from where to find FREE stuff to flip to where
to start selling your furniture flips on weekends.
If furniture flipping isn’t your thing, you can still take the
information from this resource and find a different niche to start your
flipping gig. You would be surprised at what people are willing to give away.
It’s true, one man’s trash is another’s man’s, or woman’s treasure.
Income Idea 2- For Detail Oriented Self Starters: Medical Transcriptionist:

Jobs in the health care industry are in high demand, but if
getting a nursing degree or other patient care positions aren’t your thing, you
can still work in the healthcare industry. Hospitals, doctors office and
clinics have job openings for medical transcription positions often, many of
them that you can work remotely, even on weekends. This would require taking
some courses, but you can do that from home on the weekends as well.
Some employment sites like Flexjobs show that transcription
jobs are on the decline, and while there has been a small decrease (3%), I
found a robust resource for all things coding and transcription- iMedX.
I just read an in-depth article there entitled Medical Transcription: Is It Dead Yet (hint, not even close) that you should read if your curious
about this side hustle because it’s written by the President of Transcription
Operations at iMedX, Karen Clay.
iMedX is an integrated medical document
management and health information solutions company based in Atlanta, GA. Their
mission is to advance healthcare systems to elevate patient outcomes which
includes the very important role of transcriptionist's. They have lots of free
resources on their site, including webinars and a detailed Medical Transcription Overview that explains how iMedX came help train you and potentially help
you land your first transcription job.
Don’t overlook your hobbies as a potential income stream:
Believe it or not, I took up coding as a hobby at the end of
last year. I downloaded the Mimo app and spent a few minutes at night learning html and
Java. I may never learn Python or build
my own website, but learning code is a fun brain activity for me. This hobby
could very well turn into an income stream if I truly wanted it too. I would
just have to keep allocating time to the hobby until I became proficient at
coding.
Other Income Stream Ideas you can do on Weekends:
- Knit or Crochet items to sell online
- Take photos and sell as stock photography
- Bake or cook for busy families in your neighborhood
- Take kids to and from sports practices/games for busy families
- Clean banks/office buildings for a cleaning company on weekends
- De-clutter garages/closets/pantries on weekends
- Host garage sales on weekends for yourself or others
Thank you for helping keep my job fun! I love being a
creative blogger and brand ambassador!
Here’s to a happy, healthy and financially strong new year
and decade for all of us! The future looks bright friends! I’m so thankful that
I have this creative job that allows me to share my passions with you. If there are topics, you’d like to see me cover, including
work at home ideas- please feel free to tell me in a comment or send. I do read
each and every one of them.
Please share in comments: Are you thinking of adding an
additional income stream this year? If yes, would you try any of the ideas I’ve shared
today?
