Plan A’s are Overrated

in , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Monday, July 23, 2012

By now most of you have caught on to the fact that I like to plan things out. I like being prepared.  Sure, I can do spur of the moment… sometimes, if the Moon is in the right sign.  No, seriously, I can be spontaneous on some events, but a whole month of them?

Welcome to our July.

We have by way of events beyond our control had to be adaptable, flexible.

We have had to look for the silver lining as our 4th of July party plans were squashed by a no burn- no fireworks of any kind ordinance.

We had to buck up when our road trip was put off because my husband, who was already b-u-s-y was asked to fill in for another person.

We made peace with staying put and swimming, until our pool grew some nasty algae and needed to be treated with some major chemicals.

We completely understood when our sitter cancelled the night before our special date night at a lovely restaurant. Yes, reservations were required and I cancelled them without complaint.

Some would say this was a streak of bad luck, but I say July was a flexibility test.  And I’m happy to say, we all passed with flying colors. Who needs Plan A’s all the time? They are so boring, having every detail planned out.

I have watched with admiration and love as our daughters have taken all of this is stride and still come out happy.  A little disappointed here and there, but always game for one of our Plan B’s. They even came up with some stellar and fun ideas on their own.

They reminded me that a little spontaneity is a very good thing.

I hope your July has been all you hoped and planned for, but if not, look around for a Plan B. Ask your kids/friends/family for input.  I bet you will have fun too!

Springtime Countdown!

Lilacs ( My favorite) source

With only 59 days left of winter, I will concede that we here in middle Tennessee have enjoyed a nice, mild winter. I sincerely hope it’s steady as she goes until we all welcome spring once again.
My girls on the other hand feel short changed by the lack of snow days, having only gotten 1 so far this year. We never get lots of snow anyway; it’s the ice that shuts us down in hilly middle Tennessee. So as much as I try to make my kids happy, there’s no way I’m wishing for any type of white stuff! I just nod my head sympathetically and keep my mouth shut and daydream of spring…
I have so much planned for my gardens and porches and yard this year. This will be the year I re-do the front flower beds, re-paint the front porch, plant wildflowers at our pond and Honeysuckle along the back fence.
This is the year that I will divide my Irises and make an “official herb garden” so I don’t keep bringing in my pots, vowing to keep them alive all winter, only to be disappointed when I have to dry and save instead.
This is the year I make peace with the willful rose bush I inherited when we bought this place. Hey, if it can live throw all the cutting and digging up I’ve done to it, it has earned my respect and a pretty trellis too.
This is the year I will help Ms. T and Ms. M have flower beds all to themselves. They’ve wanted one, but can’t seem to agree on the spot; or worse, they want the same spot but can’t agree on the type of garden it should be. We’ve got 5 acres here, I just bet with some patience and ingenuity we can all figure this out.
Yep, those are my big plans for spring. How about you? Do you love digging in the dirt?
What are your favorite things to grow? Flowers, herbs, veggies, fruit?

Tuesday and My Plan

Happy New Year!

I had a wonderful time ringing in the New Year at home with my sweet husband and kids. We played Uno, snacked, laughed and before we knew it, midnight was here.

How did you ring in the New Year? Did you make any resolutions? I used to make resolutions, but found I respond better and reach my goals more often when I make weekly & monthly action plans.

I’ve got big plans for My WAHM Plan, which is now officially a dot.com!
I’ll keep the focus on home, sharing some of my DIY projects both inside and out.  I’ll share books and recipes, home office tips, the trials and triumphs of raising daughters and of course Reviews!

Here’s what I’m working on this week:

Home:
Finish boxing up holiday decorations. It’s a balmy 32 degrees here today, so the outside stuff can wait.
Clip coupons for the week and plan lunches for the girls returning to school on Thursday.
Change shower liners, wash shower curtains TODAY! (I have been putting this one off for a week).
Vacuum once all boxes are outta here.

Business:
His:
Finish closing out year on Quick books.
Order hubby’s business cards after getting final approval for re-designed cards.
Look into Google business listing.
Organize files on desktop, print out any drawings and file with correct job.
Upload new pictures for website.

Business:
Mine:
De-clutter side bar.
Make a list of sites I love and review business affiliations & share with my readers.
Visit and comment on at least 5 new blogs.
Visit my blog buddies and comment.
Post at least once more this week.

Kids:
Read one more chapter of Harry Potter book and discuss with Ms. T.
Read one more chapter of Edison’s Gold and discuss with Ms. M.
Take girls to the Dollar store for calendars. (The ones’ they got for Christmas are too small).
Play Uno, Sorry, or Spider wick Chronicles this afternoon.
Make loomed Potholders with Ms. M & Ms. T.
Make sure their backpacks are truly cleaned out before they go back to school.
Get them to bed early tonight to ease them back on school schedule.

So, that's my plan for this week. What's on your agenda?
