Recently, A24 Films was kind enough to send me several screeners including Priscilla, which I immediately watched since I hadn’t been able to attend the in-person screening. Today, I wanted to share my thoughts and hopefully a spoiler-free review of the highly anticipated film Priscilla, which is now available to stream.

My Dad was a huge fan of Rocky films, so of course, I’ve seen key scenes from several of the films in the Rocky film franchise, which launched in 1976 with the film Rocky and concluded with Rocky Balboa in 2006, or so we thought. Rocky made a comeback in 2015 in Creed in which Rocky trains Adonis Creed and the beginning of the Creed films got their start. As was the case with Rocky films, I’d only watched a few key scenes from Creed films because my husband is a fan.

I can’t believe it’s been 12 years since Coraline was released. I can well remember how the movie trailer ads drew my girls in and how I as a mom of a then 6- and 10-year-old decided they were too young to watch Coraline. I’m glad I stood my ground because I later heard from some parents that the movie was too suspenseful for the younger kids. Now that I’ve got full-on adult daughters, I was only too happy to receive a copy of Coraline for my family to enjoy and your family can too! Read on for the giveaway details.

Some people head to the fridge for something cold and crispy, while others, like my husband will always look for something crunchy and salty. If he can get a little sweet mixed in so much the better, so imagine our delight when Sweet Chaos popcorn sent us a big box of their flavored popcorn. And because they are so sweet, they are hosting a giveaway for a variety bundle of popcorn so you can satisfy your sweet salty cravings with Sweet Chaos popcorn too.

Are you a fan of Renee Zellweger? How about Greg Kinnear?  If you said yes to one or both of those questions, chances are you like feel good/drama movies too. I think you are going to like the movie I’m getting ready to tell you about since it’s since it features both Renee Zellweger and Greg Kinnear. They are both very talented actors, who in my opinion,  play their respective parts so effortlessly that you become emotionally attached to their characters. I think we will remember them as Ron and Debbie Hall after watching Same Kind of different as me in theaters starting October 20, 2017.

Elizabeth and Drew 1 Night Movie

Movie Synopsis:

"Thirty-something Elizabeth (Anna Camp) must decide whether to salvage her relationship with Drew (Justin Chatwin) after much personal disappointment. Meanwhile, Bea (Isabelle Fuhrman), a worrisome teenager, reconnects with her introverted childhood friend, Andy (Kyle Allen) to overcome their difference in high school status following their prom. Past and present collide as two couples explore love over the course of one night at a hotel."

Bea and Andy 1 Night Movie

My Thoughts:

I agreed to view this movie based on my love of Anna Camp's acting in the Pitch Perfect movies. As for the other actors, I only had facial recognition for Justin Chatwin and zero knowledge of Isabelle Fuhrman and Kyle Allen prior to this movie. After watching 1 Night, I'll be on the look out for them in future roles because they all did wonderful jobs portraying their individual characters in this film.

Bea and Andy on prom night 1 Night movie

This is an independent film that has so many good moments that when you put them all together you come away with a solid movie worth watching. The movie takes place at at hotel on prom night, so I found myself drawn to the teen characters because my teen daughter will be going to prom soon. I thought the writer/director did a great job of showcasing the events that might take place on prom night.

It took me a moment to figure out why Elizabeth and Drew were there on prom night. At first they seemed out of place. Out of step. Were they chaperones? Were they in town for the evening and just happened to pick that hotel? A few minutes more into the movie and you figure out that they are in fact out of step and struggling.  Below is the official movie trailer for you!

Movie Preview:

At times I did feel the story line and pace was very methodical and that some story lines could have been developed more- but for an Indy film of its length, I would watch it again! Plus, it has a surprise ending which left me smiling! It's definitely a feel good romantic movie that shows that yes, love can happen at any time.

Elizabeth and Drew 1 Night movie

"1 Night is about rekindling that passion and love as well as finding it for the first time, by following two couples at different stages of their romance."

Bea and Andy in taxi 1 Night Movie

My Takeaway:

I'm glad I got the opportunity to watch this film with these fine actors and do recommend you see it too.  Digital release was February 10th. Learn more about the movie by checking out 1 Night Movie on Facebook and Twitter.

Please share in comments: What was the name of the last Independent movie you watched?

February is the month for love and I was excited to be selected to host a giveaway featuring the latest book and movie from Nicholas Sparks: The Choice.

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Review Wire Media for Lionsgate. I received information to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

The Choice: This is all I need, the moon and the stars and you.

Nicholas Sparks, #1 New York Times best- selling author, is known for his easy to relate to heartwarming stories like The Notebook and I can’t wait to read this book just in time for Valentine’s Day and hopefully, see the movie which opens this Friday February 5th!

About The Movie: The Choice: Presented by Lionsgate studio/a Nicholas Sparks/Safran Company/POW! Production

“When feisty medical student Gabby Holland moves in next door to perennial ladies’ man Travis Shaw, they embark on a surprising romantic journey neither imagined possible. Travis has always believed a serious relationship would cramp his easygoing lifestyle, while Gabby is preparing to settle down with her long-term boyfriend—until an irresistible attraction between the unlikely couple upends both of their well-planned lives. Spanning a decade and tracing the evolution of a love affair that is ultimately tested by life's most defining events, this story features a memorable ensemble of friends and family in Sparks’ beloved North Carolina setting, culminating with the question that every couple must ask themselves: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?”

The Choice movie scene:You're just sassin' me because you like me.

Being a southerner, I love movies set in the south and North Carolina with its charm and pristine beaches make a perfect back drop for this love story as you can see from this photo :

The Choice North Carolina beach scene

and see more stunning scenes by watching this movie clip!

Doesn't this movie look good? I think Benjamin Walker (Travis) and Teresa Palmer (Gabby) are perfect for their roles! You can learn more about the movie setting, cast and more by visiting #TheChoice website and by following along on Facebook and Twitter using hashtags #TheChoice or #ChooseLove.

It may be too cold to head to the beach now, but we can do the next best thing and spend some time with Nicholas Sparks by going to see The Choice in theaters and by reading the book which one of you can win!

Labor Day movie pick: Life of Crime with Jennifer Aniston

in , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, August 29, 2014

It's the last Friday in August and Labor day weekend is on every body's mind, so let's kick off the long weekend with a giveaway! My thanks to Partnershub for  making this giveaway possible. As a host blogger, I receive no compensation or product for sharing this giveaway, just a bunch of happiness.

I have long been a fan of Jennifer Aniston. She won me over as Rachel on Friends and I even contemplated that famous haircut for a summer. Fast forward 20 years and Jennifer Aniston is still one of my favorite leading ladies and I find myself really liking her haircut again.

Opening in theaters today is Jennifer's newest movie: Life of Crime. After you read all about the movie, go to the bottom of this post to enter to win a $15 Fandango gift card.

About Life of Crime:

"When a pair of low-level criminals kidnap the wife of a corrupt real-estate developer, they get both more and less than they bargained for in Life of Crime, a dark caper comedy based on legendary author Elmore Leonard’s novel The Switch. Starring Jennifer Aniston, John Hawkes, Yasmin bey, Mark Boone Junior, Isla Fisher, Will Forte and Tim Robbins, Life of Crime is packed with the outrageously eccentric characters, black comedy and unexpected twists that earned Leonard a reputation as one of America’s sharpest and funniest crime writers.
Mickey Dawson (Jennifer Aniston), the wife of crooked real-estate developer Frank Dawson (Tim Robbins), is kidnapped by two common criminals (Yasmin bey and Jon Hawkes), who intend to hold her for a $1 million ransom and extort her husband with inside information about his illegal business dealings. But Frank, who is holed up in the Bahamas with his mistress, decides he’d rather not get his wife back, setting off a sequence of double-crosses and plot twists that could only come from the mind of master storyteller Elmore Leonard."

I know Jennifer will sparkle in this dark comedy and I hope I can squeeze in a trip to the theater to see it.

Now for some giveaway fun!

Watch the action packed new trailer for Life Of Crime and then share your favorite part for a contest entry on the Rafflecopter form below!

Friday nights have been Family fun nights at our house for years. Now that the girls are in their teens and tweens, we let them decide if it’s game night or movie night and it just so happens, tonight is going to be movie night thanks to Big G Cereal Movies. This post is sponsored by General Mills but my love for their cereal and family fun is all my own.

Big G wants to inspire family nights together with classic movies that you can share with your loved ones anytime, anywhere by offering a free HD movie download when you purchase 2 boxes of these participating cereals:

  • Honey Nut Cheerios
  • Fruity Cheerios
  • Frosted Cheerios
  • Lucky Charms
  • Reese’s Puffs

  • Golden Grahams

We chose Lucky Charms and Frosted Cheerios.  We had to look through the Big G cereals available to make sure we selected boxes with the General Mills and Fox MovieDownload Promotion movie banner across the front to ensure we’d get the code needed.

Once you have your Big G cereal home, it’s time to decide what movie you are going to download. There are 10 great movies to choose from.

We chose Mr. Popper’s Penguins.  Downloading our movie was easy.

  • We found the codes needed in each cereal box.
  • Went to Big G Cereal Movies and entered codes.
  • Downloaded our free movie.

No family movie night would be complete without a snack, so we were happy to see snack recipes on both boxes of Big G cereal. The girls and I raided our pantry and came up with our own version of Lucky Charms Peanutty Good Luck Snack. We added Cashews, Pretzel bites and Frosted Cheerios to our recipe. It is so sweet and salty good that we had to put it away to wait until official movie time tonight.
