October finds me Pink and Blue

in , , , , , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Thursday, October 17, 2013

To say this has not been a “normal” October for most Americans is probably an understatement what with our government squabbling and causing all manner of hardships all across our nation. I am in no way a political debater or writer, so I will just say, I am glad EVERYBODY got to go back to work today and I hope you are enjoying some of nature's beauty that October brings.

I wanted to take time out today to share a part of my “other” job with you. Near the end of August, I rejoined Avon, (you can read more about my Avon story here) and in these short few weeks, I have reconnected with old customers and friends in such a positive way.

Several have told me they missed shopping with me and talking with me. Sure, everybody knows Avon and likes their products- but when you have ladies telling you that it just wasn’t the same as shopping with me; I cannot tell you how empowering and uplifting their comments are!

This leads me to why October finds me Pink and Blue.

Avon’s Breast Cancer Crusade is world renowned and I take pride in being a little fish in a big pond of caring and giving individuals who work tirelessly to help find a cure.
I invite you to please visit Avon’s Breast Cancer Crusade page to learn about ways you can get involved. I would love it if you visited my Pink page and see if there is a product or two you would like to purchase to do your part.

Now I would like to talk about the Blue part of my October.

Did you know that October is also Speak out against Domestic Violence month?

Speak Out Against
Domestic Violence

As a Mom of two daughters, I find that as they get older the fear of dating abuse and or sexual violence becomes a tough topic that I have to address. I “lightly” touched on the subject with my 14 year old and will cross that same bridge with my 10 year old when I feel she is ready.

What is Domestic Violence?

According to Avon: "Domestic violence is a pattern of abuse with the goal of establishing or maintaining power and control over the victim. It can happen occasionally or continuously and often worsens over time. Domestic violence includes physical, sexual, mental, and financial abuse. It knows no boundaries: Domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of income, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion.
To help bring this issue out of the shadows, the Avon Foundation for Women launched Speak Out Against Domestic Violence, an initiative to build awareness, educate, and improve prevention and direct service programs. Through the end of 2012, in the U.S. alone, we have provided more than $33 million for the domestic violence cause."
Parents: Especially Moms! If you have a teen or older tween, perhaps it's time for you to have this talk too.  Don’t wait too long! Kids are learning “stuff” at earlier ages than most of us did. Let’s help keep our kids safe by learning all we can about this silent problem.
Please visit Avon’s Speak out Against Violence Campaign and see how you can help this important cause here.  I would love it if you stopped by my Blue page to see if you would like to purchase any of our special empowerment pieces.

I'm ordering myself this beautiful Butterfly Umbrella.  It's only $10.00 and it will help fund help. 100% of net profits ($6.62) will be donated to the Avon Foundation for programs dedicated to ending violence against women. And just so you know, Avon Reps. do not earn commissions on any of the Pink or Blue products. :)

Do you need help?

Four little words that to some may be very hard to answer. But, If you are reading this and you are a victim of domestic violence, no matter how small: please reach out to somebody.  Don’t stay silent. Please. After reading the study results Avon conducted in September of this year, silence is not the answer! Avon wants to help. We Avon Reps. want to help. If you visit this page, there are lists of help line numbers in categories to help you.

For Teens:

Love doesn't hurt. Love is Respect.

I know you think parents and adults just don't get it and hey, maybe we don't, but we want to- Try talking to us! If you can't yet, please visit this interactive page full of quizzes and resources that may help you find your voice.

Lastly, if you are reading this and think Avon might be a good fit for you too, I invite you to join my Avon family.

Thank you in advance for helping me and Avon support these very worthy causes this month and throughout the year. Do you have a charity or cause to share? Please feel free to let me know in your comment.

Don't Copy Me

As I sat down to my laptop this morning, I had every intention of finishing up the post I'd been working on over the weekend. After visiting so many wonderful blogs over the last few weeks ( many of whom stopped by here first, thank you), I decided that I needed to post here more often AND that it was perfectly okay for me to talk more about family stuff to boot! Afterall, I am a work at home Mom; home is in my title.
So, I was writing a piece all heartwarming and domestic-ey, when I decided to take a break and see how my lil' blog that could was doing this fine morning.

Imagine my surprise when I saw that I've had a boat load of visitors this morning, but only a handful were reading my latest post ( yes, I was looking at my stats) and there were no new comments... so super sleuth that I am followed the yellow brick road of clicks to this post: http://mywahmplan.blogspot.com/2011/07/honey-nut-cheerios-freebie.html

Okay people, there could only be a couple of reasons you are visiting this old post. And I have a sneaking suspicion that getting the freebie wasn't the lure. IF you are doing a review for this brand or IF you are offering this Freebie too, kindly do your own leg work, find your own pictures ( like I did) and write your own review. Don't copy me. Thank you!

Thanks to Miranda over at Moms Book Shelf for having a Copyright Free button on her blog.
I've placed one on my blog now, so I feel somewhat protected.

I'd love to hear from you on this topic. Has your work been used without your knowledge or consent?
