Winter has us in its grip this week and has covered a large portion of the US in snow and ice, so to combat the bad weather, I’m focusing on the fun of Valentine’s day gift giving! My shopping style has changed now that my daughters are older. It’s not all hearts and candies (although, I still love giving and receiving those). Now, I look for gifts beyond the candy aisle!  I’ve found four cute and clever Valentine's Day  gift ideas for the whole family to share with you today.

This past weekend, my family and I bundled up, jumped in the car and headed to First Horizon Park in Nashville for an epic holiday light show experience. Enchant Nashville, a themed light walk through winter wonderland presented by Hallmark is a sight to behold! It’s the largest themed light event in the U.S. and one you won’t want to miss. Read on to learn more and grab tickets before the end of the year.

On September 29th, I had the honor of attending my first ever red-carpet event to provide media coverage of the Nashville Film Festival’s 53rd opening night presentation of The Return of Tanya Tucker featuring Brandi Carlile. Not only was this a special evening full of firsts for me, including enjoying a fantastic theater experience at the historic Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, TN., it was a first for my husband and teen daughter as well. We enjoyed ourselves immensely! I’d love to share my thoughts on this film, with (hopefully) no spoilers for you.

My husband and I were recently invited to a unique, in-person screening of the latest Marvels Studio film: Thor Love and Thunder, and I will say right from scene one, we were entertained! I’d love to share some of my thoughts (no spoilers), before it opens in theaters tomorrow July 8, 2022.

Happy Monday friends! I hope you are having lovely spring weather in your area like we are enjoying here in Nashville. April is always so pretty here with all the trees and flowers blooming. My only wish is that time would slow down! April seems to be flying by. Speaking of time flying by, can you believe it's been 20 years since we were first introduced to Shrek and his merry band of friends? I know I was blown away when I read that, so I just had to share this fun 20th anniversary release of Shrek in theaters this month! Read on for all the details.

Tomorrow, April 22, 2020 marks 50 years of Earth day. Every year, my family and I celebrate this special day by planting trees, visiting Centennial Park to celebrate Earth Day with other Nashville area Earth Lovers, picking up trash from roadsides, supporting local nurseries and more. However, as with so many other events normally held this time of year, things will be different this year thanks to our need to stay home. That doesn't mean we can't all come together digitally to celebrate 50 years!

Six ways to Give on Giving Tuesday

in , , , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Tuesday, December 03, 2019

Happy December!  It is a frosty morning here south of Nashville, TN. And I’m warm and toasty in my cozy home office. I know there are many, right here in my county that aren’t as fortunate. That’s top of mind as I put together this post for Giving Tuesday. This year I’m going to continue to help where I live. To that end, I’m donating food, toys, clothes, books, diapers, anything I can to help local community outreach programs and non profits. If you’d like to help out in your community and need some ideas on where to get started, read on for Six ways you can give on Giving Tuesday.

Do you have a student entering or returning to college this year? Our oldest daughter recently returned to Lipscomb University here in Nashville for her junior year. We love Lipscomb for a host of reasons and feel it's a great fit for our daughter and us, expect for parking! Nashville’s not a huge city yet, but it is growing by leaps and bounds, with an average of 100 people moving here per day. Our once quaint suburban streets where most local colleges are located, simply aren’t equipped to handle the traffic. Parking and getting to class on time is especially tricky at Lipscomb! I’m hoping they will implement a new policy allowing scooters on campus soon. I daresay parking and getting to class on time is a top concern for college students across America, which is why I think the Jetson Quest Electric Scooter would be a perfect way for college students to get around campus easily.

Deciding which colleges to visit can be a fun and exciting time for parents and kids, but it can also be a stressful time with a lot of unknowns to contend with. There are hundreds of potential students and families vying for the same parking spots, dorm room tours and more. Looking back on the whole process with our oldest daughter, who will be going into her Junior year at Lipscomb University in the fall, we could have saved ourselves a few headaches had we known about Collegewise and their helpful admissions and applications assistance. Today I'm happy to share this guest post by Casey Near of Collegewise on the best questions to ask on college visits I think you’ll find very helpful.

When my husband and I moved to Nashville in the 90’s, downtown was a full on, old school country music scene. From the honky-tonks, Printer’s Alley and record label headquarters, it really was country. Today, you won't see the long gone Hard Rock Cafe and Fuddruckers of the 90's, you'll see high rises and construction sites and traffic!  To say Music City has changed in an understatement. Nashville has grown, and continues to grow at such an alarming pace that even locals like us need help navigating our day trips into Nashville, so today I’m sharing a new to me guide called Do615, this website is a fun way to make the most of a Nashville trip whether you have a day or a week.

I can’t think of a better way to kick off March and the weekend than with a little celebration of all the great women who walked before me so that I can enjoy all the wonderful opportunities women have today. In many areas, there’s still plenty of work to do for women’s rights and equality, but I tend to look for the positive in all areas of my life, so on March, 8, 2019, I will stand with women all around the world with open minded optimism. Read on to see how you can get involved with my five easy take action ideas.

Last Saturday was a date day for the husband and me. We got invited to try a new to us pub in the heart of downtown Nashville in SoBro (South of Broadway) as it’s called locally. We’ve been working hard and haven’t been downtown in months, so this date was special.  If you and your significant other need a day a day date too, read on! Come along with me as I show you how fun and tasty it is to eat and do a little day drinking at City Tap House in Nashville.
