Be a mouse this #Halloween and win a cozy blanket

in , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Friday, October 31, 2014

It’s Friday and it’s Halloween. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with another giveaway!  You all love a good giveaway from the looks of the Fire Pit giveaway and the Eco-Friendly e-cloth giveaway I’ve got going.  Have you entered them?

Happy #Halloween #Pumpkin

This giveaway is a little different. We are going to have some fun being a mouse! Yep, you get to play a rodent in Orkin’s #MouseInAHouse game below. Okay, you may be asking yourself why a mouse in a house Orkin? Good question! Here’s what Orkin says.

About Orkin Mouse in the House:
“Fall has arrived, and cooler weather has come with it. Whether or not you know it, your warm house is an open invitation to unwanted guests looking for a cozy winter vacation: rodents. Each fall, rodents migrate from their outdoor “summer home” to the warmth, food and shelter of their “winter timeshare” – your house!”

I do not want rodents in my home, that’s for sure, but I also feel a bit sorry for the poor little rodent who is just looking for a warm, safe place to stay. Sorry it can’t be in my home and if you do come in, I’m calling the Orkin man! I’m going to follow them on Facebook and Twitter and you can too using those links.

Since we humans have the advantage, why not try being a mouse on Halloween by playing the chose your own adventure game that puts you in the shoes of a rodent looking to survive the upcoming harsh winter season? Try your best to stay alive and see how long you last as a mouse!

 Play Choose-Your-Own-Adventure #MouseInAHouse Game!

Somewhere in mid-summer a key turned in a lock and the world of full-time professional blogging-writing walked right in that open door for me.  Even though I have been a work at home Mom for 15+ years and plan my days as any professional should, I found myself playing catch up because, quite simply, I didn’t have the proper tools and systems in place to keep up with my growth.

2015 monthly #planner #calendar

That won’t happen in 2015 because I already have an amazing monthly planner and wall calendar thanks to Shoplet.com, who asked if I would like to receive these two complementary At A Glance  products to try and share my thoughts with you.

Let’s start with the monthly planner. I took this out of the package and loved the look and feel of it. This planner allows me to see the whole month without having to flip pages, which comes in very handy when you are planning several assignments and work commitments.

There’s ample writing room in each day box and a place for notes on the top and right side margins.  The tabbed months are a plus as well, allowing me to easily plan projects in advance. There are ample notes pages in the back of this 13 month planner along with a page of contacts.  There’s even a plastic pocket holder in the back for you to tuck in notes, business cards and those fliers that get handed out when you attend business functions.

I couldn’t be happier with this At-A- Glance 2015 monthly planner and look forward to putting my first assignment in it. Since I already have campaigns that run through January, I’ll be setting up my planner this weekend.

2015 wall calendar #planning

The 2015 monthly wall calendar won’t be hung on a wall in my office, but will be tucked into my lifesaver of a sideboard that acts as a second desk for me.  This calendar will be my hub for all business commitments, not just for my blog and writing assignments, but for my husband’s business as well.

Like with the monthly planner, the day boxes on the wall calendar are big enough for me to write two or three notes on each day. There is an ample header margin where I can write notes or stick post-it notes and reminders there. The flip page method on this calendar will make it easy for me to go to each month without fear of ripping out pages.

2015 monthly #planner

With these two products, I feel confident that 2015 will be a well-organized, successful year for me. With the 4th quarter zooming past us, now is the time to purchase your planner and calendars for next year. I invite you to learn more about these two products and all the business supplies available at Shoplet.com

Please share in comments: Which of these two products would you most likely use in 2015?

Cleaning is easy and eco-friendly with e-cloth

in , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Monday, October 27, 2014

If you’ve been reading my posts this month, you know I’ve been busy cleaning. I’ve shared a few tips and tricks in my Fall Cleaning Checklists you can read here and here. Now that we have a cleaning guide, let’s discuss cleaning supplies.

I was so excited when I was approached by e-cloth to write a post and receive free products and share my thoughts with you. It’s a perfect way to help you with your fall cleaning efforts because I’ll be giving away an eight piece home cleaning set and a little something for your pet too today.

e-cloth #home #cleaning set

As the homemaker, head care officer for my home and family; I want to ensure both are kept clean and comfortable.  Some cleaning supplies can often leave harsh smells in your home that can aggravate your family and pets, but I didn’t have to worry about spraying any chemicals with e-cloths. You just use water and the millions of tiny fibers in each e-cloth go to work.

Using water instead of cleaning products helps me save money, helps reduce the use of plastics and helps improve my home’s air quality.  Not only am I cleaning chemical free, e-cloths are proven to remove over 99% of all bacteria, including e-coli and listeria from hard surfaces with just water!

Eager to see these e-cloths in action, I set to work with the kitchen cloth first, wiping down my counters. Then I chased some dust bunnies with the dusting cloth and lastly I cleaned some of my collectible glass with the glass and polishing cloth. I was very pleased with the results and can’t wait to utilize all eight e-cloths I received.

I even got to clean my kitties with a super soft and absorbent cleaning mitt. The dual sided mitt is so soft and easy to use on your wet or dry pet.

e-cloth #pet #cleaning mitt

I used the fronded side of the mitt on one cat to dry her after her bath and she was dry in no time. Then I used both sides of the mitt to clean my younger kitty. Fiona loved the feel of this mitt so much, that she asks for me to use it now. If she sees me open up the cabinet where I keep the kitty supplies, she’ll sniff out the cleaning mitt for me to rub her!

I’m very pleased with the cleaning results with e-cloth and I will continue to use them. They are guaranteed for up to 300 machine washings, so they are well worth the initial investment. You can learn more about cost, materials used and more by visiting e-cloths website and following them on Facebook and Twitter.

The Giveaway:

Thanks to the folks at e-cloth, one lucky reader will win 1 dual sided pet cleaning mitt and 1 eight piece home cleaning set which includes:

Patriot Fire Pit Giveaway

in , , , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Thursday, October 23, 2014

There's just something about a roaring fire on a brisk fall evening.  My family enjoys having bonfires where we circle the fire ring with our chairs, make S'more's and do a whole lot of talking and laughing.

Being able to have a bonfire is a perk of country living, but never fear city dwellers, you can have the same fun with a Fire Pit. I've teamed up with a bunch of great bloggers to share this giveaway with you today.

The Power of the Heart book review

in , , , by Linda A Kinsman, Thursday, October 09, 2014

While I am an avid reader, self-help books aren’t normally on my TBR list, so when SheSpeaks sent an email asking if I’d like to receive an advanced copy of The Power of The Heart- Finding your true purpose in life; I almost passed.

Until I saw that Maya Angelou was a contributor.  I have found great peace, solace and enlightenment in Maya’s words and teachings so I decided to open my heart and mind to this book. My thanks to SheSpeaks/Power of the Heart for sponsoring today’s post. I appreciate receiving a complimentary advanced copy of this book and a thank you gift for my time. All opinions expressed are my own.

#Poweroftheheart book #review

About The Power of the Heart: Written by Baptist De Pape for Atria Books:

The Power of the Heart book is a compilation of thoughts, ideas and exercises from eighteen of the world’s greatest spiritual thinkers, writers and scientists who reveal how you can overcome limitations and fulfill your highest potential. Since the beginning of recorded history, the great teachers of the world’s spiritual traditions have described the heart as the source of true power and understanding.

How Do You Connect With Your Individual Heart’s Power?

“There are many different ways to connect with your heart’s power and intelligence. The book explains how to listen to your heart’s voice and hear its wisdom. It also explains ways, in which you can develop your intuition, create synchronicity, clarify your intentions, and exercise the power of gratitude. All of these – intuition, intention, gratitude, and synchronicity – are also powers of the heart.”

My Thoughts:

Each chapter of The Power of the heart is relatively easy to read and get through. There are exercises or contemplation's throughout the book to help you get in tune with your true purpose in life and your heart’s power. Some of the writers/teachers words I could align myself with easier than others. For instance one such contemplation is The Three Blessings Exercise.

For this exercise you are supposed to write down three blessings or things that went right for you that day. I found that by following this exercise I actually had more than three blessings for each and every day. I found that to be very life affirming!

 My Favorite Quotes:

If you don’t know what to do, do nothing. Don’t fill your time with trivia. Simply do nothing. Don’t do anything and you may be able to hear your heart. – Maya Angelou

It’s important to allow moments of silence into your life, because silence can let you escape the mental noise we call “thinking”. – Eckhart Tolle

Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. – Steve Jobs

Personally, I found this spiritually enlightening book to be helpful in that it made me stop and “contemplate” on two key issues for me, Intention and Gratitude

The Take Away:

This book is beautiful and would be a welcome resource for anyone who is asking themselves the big picture questions about their life and their purpose in it. Be prepared to think and feel your way through it.

Spoiler Alert: The circle design feature on the front of the book jacket glows in the dark! What an unexpected touch.

You can learn more about The Power of the Heart, including ordering a copy by visiting their website here and by following along on Facebook and Twitter.

Please share in comments: Which of my favorite quotes above speaks to you?

From a very early age, my daughters have enjoyed spending time with me in the kitchen.  They have graduated up the ranks over the years and can cook a number of things on their own, but there is one appliance that is still a bit intimidating for them to work with; a hot oven.

As adults, we know that getting hot, bubbling food out of the oven without getting burned is tough sometimes, so I was happy to work with our sponsor today, BrylaneHome, who sent us their 6 slice convection- toaster oven to review and share our thoughts. All opinions are my own.

About BrylaneHome 6-slice Convection- Toaster Oven:

Convection-toaster oven #BrylaneHome

Their Toaster oven is a multi-use kitchen appliance you will be happy to have on your kitchen counter! Not only is it a toaster, it’s a rotisserie and a convection oven.  You can bake, broil, toast and roast a variety of dishes. It’s small enough to fit on our counter, but big enough to hold a nice size casserole dish.

I really like the fact that you can set this toaster oven to a low 150 degrees, set the timer and walk away. The toaster oven will automatically shut off.

This is perfect appliance for my kids to use. With the BrylaneHome convection-toaster oven they can make a quick batch of cookies, muffins, or warm up a leftover cheddar drop biscuit or two after school without the hassle of working with the big oven.

warming up cheddar drop #biscuits

We will be putting this toaster oven to good use come Thanksgiving when oven space is at a premium. I won’t’ have to do the pull, squeeze and shuffle this year when someone else arrives with a dish that has to go in the oven to keep or warm or finish cooking.

The warming feature has quickly become one of our favorites on this Toaster oven. It’s just as easy as using a microwave and you get the feel good warmth of food pulled from the oven.  That’s a win here.

If you are hosting a special holiday meal this year, you may want to save yourself the oven shuffle hassle and head on over to BrylaneHome and check out this convection- toaster oven.
